Hmm, can't wait for the "storm the compound" mode on the new to be created Area 51 pin. Maybe a mini playfield where you're the gunner shooting down trespassers in the style of Hyperball

Not quite Area 51, but I did tour White Sands Missile Range this summer in NM. I was really surprised to learn in their museum that there is a Zumwalt sector (my last name). I've searched all I could to figure out who it was named after (land owner, admiral, etc.) and even exactly where it is on the missile range, but haven't had any luck thus far. Also, I wanted to go to the Trinity site on the far north of the range, but learned you can only access it on 2 specific days a year.
You actually go into the base to tour the museum (indoor and outdoor), but of course no access to the range. Very serious business there and can't imagine what would happen to anyone who didn't follow the rules and/or attempted to access unauthorized areas. The security and seriousness totally scared my son the entire time - was on his best behavior for sure. I thought it was the coolest part of our trip, but he thought it was the worst just because of the anxiety it caused him (guess it didn't help that I told him he might be shot if he disobeyed the rules.
If you are ever in the area and enjoy rocketry, you must go. Indoor museum was interested, but they also have a building that has a real V2 rocket in it with cutaways. Also, the outdoor museum with all of the missiles and rockets was awesome. Took me back to my youth when I was heavy into model rocketry. I actually had working rockets of several of the ones displayed at the outdoor museum.
On a side note, really made me proud to be an American. Our military, technology, and engineering are second to none in the world. Believe it or not, the world is still a very dangerous place and filled with tyrants and governments that love to see all of us dead or subjects to their control. Personally, I want the government to have secrets when it comes to bleeding edge military tech. Secrecy is a substantial element when it comes to peace and giving the enemy the ability to accurately measure our capabilities. Very few know our true capabilities, and most of those people are so compartmentalized they don't even realize the full potential.
My CWB Area 51 wakeboard from back in the day - did lots of charging the wake on this thing. Never saw any aliens, but did see stars after slamming my face onto the water with eyes wide open when catching the front edge of the board a few times. Still have it, but in my wakeboard bag in the attic

Quoted from sethi_i:I'm sure you enjoyed it. WSMR is very cool the first time you see it. By the hundredth time it gets kind of old. If you don't think so, try spending four years at Holloman AFB in Alamogordo, just outside the range. It may change your mind!!
Just to clarify, it is a interesting place to visit - wouldn't care to live in that desolation (nothing against NM, as it has some nice parts). I do remember seeing the base just off the highway leading out to the range. On our trip we mainly stayed around Ruidoso, but a day trip to the range was on my list (sledded on the dunes and also stopped by the pistachio orchard on the way, which was a plus).
Great, I live it Fort Worth. We aren’t all idiot Darwin Award nominees.
Part of me feels sad for people like this, the other part thinks that thinning the herd can sometimes be a good idea.
For those of you who plan on participating, PM me and I will give you my personal info so that you can make sure you will all of your pins to me.
