I've seen many pins with wires simple standing out of a bundle like that. I hadn't followed any as the machine functions seem to work. Sometimes I beleive this is because the same innards are used for a number of machines and perhaps the wire is used when the bundle it installed in a different machine. If you can find a schematic for Flash or another with shared wiring, it may well tell you the purpose of the wire
