I've had good luck using an automotive degreaser. Just be careful not to leave it on painted areas too long. Even on my 1947 pin, I sprayed the outside of the cabinet and the dirt and bar crud just ran down the sides. Wipe off, wax (there's some nice smelling automotive spray waxes) and no odor. I used it on the insides of the cabinet too.

use alcohol to clean boards and/or switches. If the game is old enough to have cloth wiring, you might be in for some effort...my bingo has miles and miles of cloth covered wiring and that is a real pain to get the odor out of.
