How big of an area was this? I have the same type of situation. They layed block down four feet than covered the dirt with rough concrete. I would guess I have a 20'x20' area that I would just love to covert into my new game room. However I have no window for the dirt.

I don't need to jack it up. Just dig out the crawl space. It is currently my storage area where I have paths of plywood down and I crawl around with knee pads on. It sure would have been nice if they just had dug it out to begin with. Just some more blocks and so much more area.

    Quoted from islandpinball:

My area is about 20x20. Access panels all in the sheets to access , fuse box, gas meter , things like that ,I still need to decorate the space but all my games are running and TV is on the wall.
We blocked off unfinished space for washer and dryer and 2nd refrigator (pocket door for access)
We blocked off another space for AC unit , boiler , and hot water heater.
I am glad I got it done but I had regrets during the projects because it took muck longer then anticipated.

I have a basement already. The crawl space area is under the bedrooms/bathrooms. I have an L shaped house. So everything else is already in place. Just would need to dig this area out and finish it off.

    Quoted from MustangPaul:

You need footings that go down as deep as code requires for frost line and how would you support the room while the footings go in and walls go up.

    That's a good question.
