Sent him a few emails regarding having him do a restro for glass he already has the artwork and also for one I am interested in having done. Have not received a response in over a week, which has not been the norm in my the past few times I have emailed him!

Would like to get a hold of him but also hoping all is okay!

#2 9 years ago

Not a peep. Emailed him a couple weeks ago on some Paragon backglasses... No reply yet.

#3 9 years ago

You need to be patient it can take weeks may be months at times but he always comes good in my experience.

#4 9 years ago

I've not had any luck with him in months, and a friend of mine thats supposed to have a glass made by him has his money and it seems he's dropped off the face of the earth. Never again.

i have no idea whether this has any actual "fact" behind it....

it was mentioned in a thread a few months ago that a certain copyright holder might be starting to have an issue with them... again, whether or not there is any truth behind that, i do not know...

that being said, there are blog entries on their website from this month...

#6 9 years ago

Yes, I have. Took about 10 days but he did respond with the information I had requested. This was one week ago.

I've tried contacting him both through their website and using an email address I found on pinside and haven't heard back from him. It's been at least a month and probably closer to 2.

I think he's just got a big backlog. I ordered a Time Fantasy glass in November, and it took a few months (which was fine by me). No response to a couple of emails I sent in December, but when the glass came in January it was perfect and packed really well. He's the only game in town, and to my knowledge nobody's ever been screwed by him.

Promising news. I have two Paragon bg's and a Devils Dare I need to get done....

Yeah it is! All the post on him I have yet to find one that is really negative, just that he is slow to respond to emails. This resolves my question so marking this post as such. I will just give him more time to respond. Thanks everyone!!!

#11 9 years ago

It is a slightly unusual process. No response, no bg and then out of the blue (when you have almost given up) a reply arrives or the bg turns up. That said I have been very very happy with the x3 backglasses I obtained from Steve and as swampfire has indicated the packing is superb which for the distance to me that is important. I have also spoken to Steve on a number of occasions and found him to be a really decent & accommodating individual.

Thanks for the post as this is what I was looking for. My intentions were not to slam Steve at all, just find out if anyone heard from him. Seeing post like this lets me know this is the norm so, again, I will just wait it out!

Steve travels a lot for his day job. Mostly overseas. This may help explain the communication blackouts. The only baffler in this thread is John Dayhuff's friend who it sounds like paid and has not received the glass. Something does not add up on that one.

#14 9 years ago

My friend is planning on paying him a visit in person really soon and hopefully getting his money back. Its been seven months and counting and still nothing with basically zero communication. I can understand his frustration.

#16 9 years ago

John who is your friend (name) and what glass did he order?
i talk to steve a lot and he may be behind on order, but not that behind on any orders. and he does respond to emails. may take him a few days, but he responds.

#17 9 years ago

Email sent. Thanks Clay.

Steve's a stand-up guy. I have received several glasses from him and when I had an issue with a glass he sent me out a new one free of charge and told me to keep the one that had an issue. Deal with confidence (but also with patience)!

#19 9 years ago

I just received an email from Steve advising that the order I placed (12/31) is completed and being shipped soon. He is looking at another glass for me as well. So it's just like most of the post say here that he just takes a little time to respond to emails!

#20 9 years ago

Steve's day job is a big one and the bgresto thing is just a side thing. his job and family come first. but he does respond to all emails that i have seen... though sometimes there's up to a week delay in that happening (to my dismay, but again this is a side project for steve.)

on Dayhuff's thing with his buddy... i talked to steve about this. The guy (glen?) dropped the glass off at the end of October (not seven months!) in Steve's driveway and said, "no hurry." Steve can't find contact info for the guy, so "glen" needs to email Steve and get his name/phone/email into steve's system. It was an Alien Poker glass, and Steve said since the guy wasn't in a hurry, and steve can't find any contact info for him, he didn't put a priority on it. That said, the artwork is nearly done for that title, so it should only be a couple more weeks and that glass will be finished.

#21 9 years ago

Ohhh, I am liking the sound of that Alien Poker art being nearly done. I'm going to need a new one also!

#22 9 years ago

Ok lets get the story right, im the guy that dropped off the alien poker glass, first when i dropped it off steve said he would have it done in about 4 weeks due to he had to change some colors, his words not mine about the time frame, second i have his cell # and i have text him maybe after 5 weeks after dropping off glass, third HE CALL ME before christmas and told me hes working on it and should have it at the first for the year, so if he called me then he must have my info. bottom line on all this is dont tell me 4 weeks and here we are going into 4 months and still no glass but others are getting done sooner and dropped off their glass way after i dropped off mine! and guess what? still dont have the glass! ! really i do understand that shit happens and delays BUT keep me in the loop. im not the only person this has happen to.

#23 9 years ago

As Lee Iacocca would say: "If you can find a better backglass restoration service; Buy it".

Holy crap, is this English?

#25 9 years ago

You need to email him with your contact details. But you said "no hurry" which when things come up, pushes the job to the back. And like mr. Bally said...

#26 9 years ago

Emailed today about a glass, got right back to me confirming details and timeline. 3-4 weeks. Payment made. Will follow up with results of the transaction.

To make sure I have the right email address, is it [email protected]? I sent an initial email to [email protected] on 11/12/14 and then followed up with an email to the shazzam address on 12/4/14. I've not gotten a response from either email. Do I have the correct email addresses?

Well, I'll be no worse off than I am right now, which is that I have a marginal criss cross hockey backglass. At this point, I'm just trying to get information on what it would take to remake this glass - no order has been placed. To be honest, based on some of the responses, I'm not sure I'd want to roll the dice.

#30 9 years ago

I wouldn't until he starts responding to emails within a reasonable timeframe.

[email protected] is the correct address but over the last two weeks emails I have sent to users with a [email protected] address have not got through. Not sure whether anyone else has had this problem?

#32 9 years ago

i would use the [email protected] address.

remember he gets tons of people wanting slot machine glass, shuffle alley glass, all kinds of wacky glass requests. if it's not pinball, chances are pretty good you won't hear back. the reason for this is simple... if steve makes one of any glass, he's loosing money/time in a big way. he needs to make three of a particular glass before he even breaks even. so if you're requesting some wacko game that essentially only you own, then he's just not going to do it. There are so many other people asking for glasses that will help a lot more machines. so that lower hanging fruit will get done before some one-off thing. steve's mission in life isn't to help you with some weirdo 1950s game only you happen to have. it's a bigger picture he's trying to help. and the one-off stuff is just a huge time suck with no payoff.

the only exception to this rule is basically if you know steve personally, and he's doing you a favor. or you do the artwork. (get it scanned at 300 dpi, scaled correctly, and then you do the photoshop work and the pantone color correction.) because it's not the printing of the glass that takes the huge time (though making a glass is a several hour operation), it's the photoshop work that takes all the time. And if the glass is in bad shape to start, then the time involved ramps up quickly.

#33 9 years ago

He's basically the only game in town, and folks are generally pleased with the end results. If the artwork is already on file from someone else having glass restored before you, you are a bit ahead of the game. Like cfh said, if you have a glass that hasn't been done before, you are not a priority and will take a very long time.

I am fortunate that someone before me has had a 1958 Gottlieb Double Action glass done before me, so that if I choose to have bgresto do one I may have a better chance of getting it - eventually.

I think the cases of dissatisfaction is just because of not-so-great-communication, but you really have to look at the big picture here and keep your expectations in check. The few that have waited much too long and have had too long to wait for communication - yes, certainly I can see that as being frustrating - but it won't stop me from buying from them.

#34 9 years ago
Quoted from scooterking:

Others may be getting their glass back quicker but that can be due to Steve already having the artwork for that glass. The glass Steve just did for me he had already done in the past so he didn't have to do the artwork, just produce the glass. One would think this would be easy for him to push out the door.

#35 9 years ago

If your glass is in bad shape and Steve hasn't done it before, you might want to ask around on the forums to see if someone is willing to have theirs professionally scanned (at your expense). Don't forget the mask layer! This approach will end up costing you more, but as cfh said it will get you a glass sooner.

#36 9 years ago

By the way, have you compared Steve's turnaround time to CPR's? I think I signed up for my WW playfield in 2008, and I just got it last year. I'm not complaining, just pointing out that everything is relative, and 3-6 months is not really a long time.

#37 9 years ago

We'll hopefully Steve will come through in the end for Glen's Alien Poker glass but there seems to be a bit of blame on both sides maybe....? I dont know but I'm staying out of the rest of it and hopefully both sides will be happy when its all said and done.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't that the big advantage of Bgresto? They would produce glasses for games that were never going to get enough interest to do a silk screen run by the regular guys.

#39 9 years ago

I hope BGResto will be at Pinball at the zoo this year. Want to pick up some Baby Pac and Sharpshooter glasses!

Quoted from cfh:

Clay, I did use the info email address and received no response, which is why I tried the other one. A simple, "sorry dude, haven't made that one before and I'm not doing it just for you" would suffice. With no response at all I can't be sure it actually got to anyone.

Quoted from cfh:

steve's mission in life isn't to help you with some weirdo 1950s game only you happen to have.

This is from the bgresto website "The advantage to this service is in the case of rare games. That is, we do “one off” restorations. " No you don't...

Granted, what I asked for isn't for a pinball machine but the process would be the same. Gary Conway has a reproduction glass for the game I have but I've seen you respond on other threads saying that your process is superior and produces a better glass. Based on other threads, it seemed that the price to have it done would be around what Gary charges so I figured I'd try to get the higher quality replacement. Apparently, you'd rather not have my business, and I'm ok with that.

I've used Gary Conway before. I like Bgresto.com much better. For one it's way cheaper. (At least last time i used Gary, his base price was $300 for the glass, and $100 for shipping.) And second Gary's process, in my eye, is less desirable. He basically makes a translite, and sandwiches it between two pieces of non-tempered 1/16" window glass, with silicone around the edges. Steve at least uses the correct thickness glass and it's always tempered. And Steve's process is bonded directly to the glass (opposed to a translit.) To me Steve's process is better. Gary is faster though, as he's been doing it a lot longer, so he probably has more one-off glasses in his files.

As for the one-off stuff. Steve has done a bunch of that for me. but he's my friend, and he uses my games for raw artwork, so he's getting something back when he needs it. But he's not anyone's personal Photoshop monkey, ready to lose money and suck up time for that weird shuffle alley no one else will ever need a glass.

Could you elaborate more on Steves process?

It sounds like hes printing it on paper and bonding it to glass?

Go to http://bgresto.com/ and read the page. It has a lot of info and may answer any questions you have. Pretty informative!

I have bought Several Glass restoration's from BGresto / Steve and each and every one of them far exceeded my expectations !
Things my not get done at breakneck speeds, but the turn around is good enough for me.
Two examples of One of glasses that were made for me are Bally "Bus Stop" and a Bally " Zip-a-Do" And they were spectacular . because they were one of I had to wait a while, but there is no where else in the world that I could have found either of these.
To me the little bit of wait is well worth the results once you put the new glass in your machine.

Thanks Steve

Do you have LEDs in the backglass or are those #44 and they come through that way?

#49 9 years ago

I'm also curious. I would guess/hope non frosted cool LEDs by the looks of the hot spots. Then again cameras always seem to pick up LEDs this way.

#50 9 years ago

I did put leds in the casino. Had 44 in there for a while. I like them.
