Mine has issues with the magnet not even trying to grab unless other switches are hit first. Hitting the closed snake mouth is almost 100% guaranteed to work, as is a soft shot off Sparky. I think thats a software glitch for sure.

When it actually tries to grab, it works fine.

Quoted from metallik:

By comparison, TOTAN uses the genie to sense the ball and turn on the magnet, and that arrangement worked well, since the ball rarely Escape the genie area.

I'm actually not sure why this isn't how this should work. Direct hits to the captive ball/cube deaden the ball and put it right there for the catching. Why work to make the magnet pick up the ball while its rolling around at all? Use the field sensor to determine IF the ball is caught, not WHEN to catch it.

Just turn the magnet on when the captive ball is hit for say, 3 seconds, then use the sensor reading to determine if its caught to do the hammer lock stuff. Seems simple to me - maybe it doesnt work that way. I realize there are the possibility of high speed deflections up towards Sparky, but so what? The ball won't be affected if it's moving fast, and if it's moving slow, I doubt many catches will be missed.

Quoted from o-din:

Because direct hits to the captive ball don't always register anyway.

Odd... Mine do?

I think it's still easier to adjust the captive ball not registering than all this magnet/ball catch mess. They can change the shape of the newton cube all day until it works.

Quoted from hoby1:

After playing a few more I would say its about the same. I am just so used to taking the shot when the jaw is up. Hit the r side with accuracy and it does lock. I do feel it is software though as it depends on what's going on at the time jaw up clean hit it locks

+1 big time

Is this going to fix bad detection overall, or just cure the phantom hammer false detection?
