When I’m not busy working on or playing some pinball, just a few favorites. Only 25 more versions of Synchronicity to go...... ;p

Quoted from guitarded:

How doess that Art of Noise re. sound?
The OP has always been a real jaw dropper on my system.
VMP Al Green Reissues tonight. They did a real nice job on these.

I ordered both limited and numbered re releases of In Visible Silence and In No Sense Nonsense. The vinyl mastering is top notch and sound every bit as good if not better than my original pressings, the only other vinyl in my collection that sounds better is my MFSL Half speed master pressing of Dark Side of The Moon! The second disc of each release has remixes and unreleased material. Highly recommend both! It’s really hard to find a perfectly engineered vinyl and what a treat it is when you hear one!

Quoted from Rascal_H:

How many versions are there?

36 Standard color banded versions. There are a couple monochrome and special metallic banded versions but those were special regional releases. I’m concentrating on the 36 for now and at the current pace I will have them all in the next 5 years if I don’t actively hunt them down.

#4431 4 years ago
Quoted from Rascal_H:

Very cool, had no idea! From your picture it looks like you have mine already.[quoted image]

Yep, the blue, red and yellow banded versions seem to be the easiest to find (at least for me on the west coast) did you know that the vinyl is translucent when held to the light? Original pressings were pressed on purple, purple-blue to brown audiophile vinyl. It’s a great way to know if it is original because club and re releases were pressed on normal black. A couple of Stings solo albums are also pressed on translucent grayish to brownish vinyl when held to the light.

Quoted from chubtoad13:

Well I did it. I warped a brand new record. I set it down on my Xbox and forgot it was there. The kids started playing and the record was blocking the fan, so it got very hot.
Anyone here have any success flattening records? This one is very thick. I’ve read about ovens and glass but I don’t know if I want to attempt that. It seems safer to just take the loss.[quoted image]

I’ve made several attempts with no success. My best luck was heating pizza stones to around 140 and sandwiching the record between them with paper sleeves as a heat buffer and about 20 pounds of top weight on the stones. The bigger wraps leveled out but I ended up with small ripples probably due to inconsistent temperature during cool down. You could always try a lower heat between stones if the warp is large, if you can bring it down enough a center weight will help flatten it enough to play. Good luck!

The world weighs on my shoulders
But what am I to do?
You sometimes drive me crazy
But I worry about you
I know it makes no difference
To what you're going through
But I see the tip of the iceberg
And I worry about you

Thanks, man! Those are the ones that I’ve picked up from various sources but haven’t played or cataloged yet. I tend to buy far more than I allot myself time to play. Kind of like pinball, vinyl is terribly addictive!

Found a translucent blue version of Bermuda Triangle to go along with my pink versions, RCA really used good quality vinyl on these Red Label pressings, so quiet. Love me some Tomita!

Edit: I’ve never dropped acid but if I were to explain Tomita’s music to somebody who’s never heard his music I’d have to say it’s best summed up as a sonic representation of a great LSD trip.

Fabulous album.
I still have both of my original Yazoo albums. Vince Clarke at his finest.

As an avid collector I have multiple US and UK copies of both their albums and 12” releases and could not agree more. MOFI however really did fabulous job with this release, sounds amazing!

Quoted from stoptap:

You have a Housemartins CD ! You must like English bands because they don’t come much more English than the Housemartins. I have quite a few Housemartin vinyl.
Paul Heaton used to drink in my local pub in Leeds.

Good eye catching that Housemartns LP! Anything 70’s through mid 90’s with connections to New Wave ends up in my ever growing vinyl collection! XTC has to be my favorite English band for sure, particularly their earlier punk-ish material!

MOFI arrivals from Discogs today, currently spinning the engineering masterpiece Breakfast In America to see if this MOFI stands up to my original pressings. So far the vinyl is super quiet and a bit brighter than the original pressing with plenty of low end. B-52’s is up next to be judged against my original 1979 pressings as well. Good listening ahead!

Still on the subject of obsolete formats, anybody (besides me) still got an 8-track deck tied into their home system?
[quoted image]

Here’s my rack of obsolete analog equipment, I still plug in some 8 track mix carts my parents made back in the early 70’s for old time sake, brings back fond memories of laying in the bed of the cab over camper, looking out the window pretending I was flying as my parents drove us across the Central Valley of Ca on our way to the mountains to camp! Is your cart machine a changer?

Quoted from bingojoe:

I see you have a reel to reel, I have one as well (pic) I always liked those for first recordings like live shows off the radio
[quoted image]

I’ve never seen a consumer cart changer before, that is awesome! I used to record lots of club mix shows off the radio with my R2R and vinyl using the dbx type ][ NR before I discovered Hi-Fi recording using my VHS. I have several R2R machines, 2 of these Teacs, an Akai 4 track and this Tascam machine I saved from a recycle pile at a local high school. I just need to properly align the heads and resolder a couple sockets on the backplane...... yeah, I have a little problem with old tech but I see I came to the right place!

Quoted from rolandthoms:

Loving the old gear. I haven’t even been able to bring myself to listening fo my cassette deck.
I’m very interested in the B52s comparison Is MOFI worth it?

They did a good job with this version. Compared to my 2 original copies the MOFI version is definitely more crisp and punchy, the bass riffs are tight and clean. Rock Lobster suffers a little bit as it is a little hot and being the last track on side A doesn’t help either but if I recall it is also hot on the original pressings as well so it is probably related more to the source than vinyl engineering. Definitely worth a pick up if you are a 52’s fan!

Nice boot! I've been hoping to find a copy of that for less than $40 landed but I might have to bite bullet

The wife and I were watching Se7en a couple weeks back for the umpteenth time and when the credits came on we both said “we gotta get that version of Hearts Filthy Lesson” so my wife started searching and found the album on EBay, we bought the last copy the seller had. Not bad $35.45 shipped.

We can tell
This dream's in sight
You've got to admit it
At this point in time that it's clear

Ninety minutes from New York to Paris
Well by seventy-six we'll be A-OK

What a beautiful world this will be
What a glorious time to be free

After searching far and wide for a good quality copy of this on vinyl because it was only released on CD in the states I finally found a respectable priced version from a seller in Brazil a month or so ago. Unfortunately getting it stateside has been tough with the postal embargo relating to shipments into the states due to Covid but it finally made it to my doorstep today, the wait was totally worth it and I can finally cross this one off my bucket list. <3

Sweet! Those box sets would be on my shelf if I had unlimited money. I'm still catching up on just regular Depeche Mode LPs.

I have the Music For The Masses singles boxed set on the way as well but I’ll be stopping there for a while! I have had the Mofi 45 rpm boxed set of Donal Fagen Nightfly in my eBay cart for the past week, I just can’t justify pulling the trigger on almost $400 in vinyl. I just keep it there to remind me what could be.

That TR-909 table is proper, is that a special edition or custom job?

I’ve been eyeing the MOFI re-release of Donald Fagens Nightfly on 45 rpm vinyl but couldn’t justify spending $400 and after reading several forums people were recommending the original MFSL half speed pressing. I was lucky enough to find a copy for half that of the closest asking price of $250. Wow this MFSL pressing is beautiful to the ears, Cross one off the bucket list!

Very cool, looks almost exactly like my Technics AT-LP120-USB, just different colors...probably better components though!

Out of the box they are very similar tables. The TT-99 is very heavy which I like. Overall I think it’s break even on feature and quality. Both tables unfortunately ship with bare bones entry level cartridges and needles which limit their performance but that’s easily remedied by upgrading.

Last weekend I finally got around to rebuilding the speed control unit in this LPC-1 that I got as a 2 for 1 deal when I purchased a M&MPM project machine machine last year ( https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/mr-and-mrs-pac-man-fell-on-hard-times ). I spent the good part of Sunday spinning my rather large collection of 45's.
