If you can possibly manage the time, please play both sides at one meeting.

Have not done a lot of woodworking in my life , but this was fairly easy. Also had to actually think a little bit . Next will sand and either paint black or stain. $58 for the wood

Nice job.

Get some alder and rip it just thick enough to trim those exposed edges. ...or, just veneer them.

Either way : Now you are almost talking furniture.

My stuff, lots of CD's as well. Great hobby, been listening since my mom bought me Rubber soul when it came out. Sold the majority of my albums in the mid 80's and used the money to buy CD's. But back at it collecting albums for the last year and half.

Any recommended web links for how to accomplish either one if these techniques?

#4458 11 months ago

You should be able to find a bunch of tutorials on veneering edges.

If you want to use alder or another wood for the edge, rip it on a table saw to the width of your plywood and then run it through a planer to get you desired width. (Or, Plane and then rip. Either way.) I usually go with 3/16ths so it doesn't look bulky. Then, either trim to fit and glue/clamp. Or, trim to fit and then pre-drill holes for fasteners, glue and tack in place.

Here is a little turntable / amp stand I made for a friend. Should give you an idea of what I am talking about.
This is the back, so - Note the Trimmed Cutout for Cables but unfinished risers...

Note: This edge is obviously closer to 9/16" than 3/16".

Nice work, man! I love the 60’s look of those metal legs!

#4461 11 months ago

Thanks -

American Hairpin Leg Company or some such makes them.
You can find them through Amazon, of course.
Well made and sturdy. Look nice in his apartment, too.

Forgot to add that the Birch Ply on that was all leftovers laying around the shop. So I went extra wide on the Front and outside edges for added space as much as anything. That thinner banding on the back edge is more what I was thinking for your piece. I just used some kerf for the cutout.

Some nice selections, the Marshall Tucker release looks interesting

Well I did it. I warped a brand new record. I set it down on my Xbox and forgot it was there. The kids started playing and the record was blocking the fan, so it got very hot.
Anyone here have any success flattening records? This one is very thick. I’ve read about ovens and glass but I don’t know if I want to attempt that. It seems safer to just take the loss.

I’ve made several attempts with no success. My best luck was heating pizza stones to around 140 and sandwiching the record between them with paper sleeves as a heat buffer and about 20 pounds of top weight on the stones. The bigger wraps leveled out but I ended up with small ripples probably due to inconsistent temperature during cool down. You could always try a lower heat between stones if the warp is large, if you can bring it down enough a center weight will help flatten it enough to play. Good luck!

Well, if it makes you feel better, I've done the same thing to brand new vinyl. Mine was left on the front seat of my car on a summer day.

If it's an easily replaceable title, chunk it. It'll drive you crazy otherwise.

Or if it's really important, spend a couple grand on a record flattener.

Thankfully it’s not anything special. Easily replaced. I’ll just order another one.

That's really sweet. Great job! After painting/stain, you could always go retro, run the router and add some t-moulding. (:

The world weighs on my shoulders
But what am I to do?
You sometimes drive me crazy
But I worry about you
I know it makes no difference
To what you're going through
But I see the tip of the iceberg
And I worry about you

This was always one of my favorite Rush albums.

Here’s a cool new band. I think they’re from NC. Kinda sound like Velvet Underground/Television/Zombies/early Stones. Nice pressing too.

Came home to the VMP Women of Motown Set at my door.
Also, stopped by the Record Shop on my way through town.
Lots of new wax for spinning this weekend!

Still getting into the Abbey Road box set.
Amazingly nice sounding vinyl and material. Begs you to crank it up high.

There are times when all the world's asleep
The questions run too deep
For such a simple man
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd
Please tell me who I am

Thanks, man! Those are the ones that I’ve picked up from various sources but haven’t played or cataloged yet. I tend to buy far more than I allot myself time to play. Kind of like pinball, vinyl is terribly addictive!

I'm waiting for the man,
26 dollars in my hand,
Up to Lexington 125,
feel sick and dirty, more dead than alive,
I'm waiting for the man.

Great album. killer track that one!

Not much incoming vinyl, except for the below. Who cares about what kind of music is on the vinyl with a gate-fold like this!

Also found an old Czechoslovakian fusion flute lp in my collection, it's been sitting there for 30 years. Not bad at all, and for sure super secret and rare

I feel the earth move is a really nice funky jazz compilation with lots of Hammond organ. a good pick for the price!

James Scott is so underrated. So are the Pretenders now that I think about it.

He was a nasty player. Those early Pretenders LPs are timeless stuff.

I thought all his guitar playing was dubbed by a studio pro while he just pretended to play (after all, he is one of the Pretenders).

Found a translucent blue version of Bermuda Triangle to go along with my pink versions, RCA really used good quality vinyl on these Red Label pressings, so quiet. Love me some Tomita!

Edit: I’ve never dropped acid but if I were to explain Tomita’s music to somebody who’s never heard his music I’d have to say it’s best summed up as a sonic representation of a great LSD trip.
