Quoted from zaki:

ok, i need to ask and it's a stupid question. does vinyl really sound better than a cd or high res download?

Another thought of why I like vinyl...
Digital discs and laser readers I can almost, almost understand.

A disc with tiny grooves, the needle on the end of an arm, and a spinning platter thing still amazes me that it even works.

Quoted from EdisonArcade:

I wondered where I remembered "Dad I'm in jail" from. That had to be it.

I remembered it from Pump Up the Volume; there's a scene where Christian Slater's character plays it on his pirate radio show.

I wanted a pirate radio station of my own so bad when I was a kid. I think I still do but the moment is gone...

Quoted from vid1900:

Leonard Cohen - Songs of Love & Hate $6.99
Alright, if this price does not get you to buy it, nothing will.

Which reminds me, I was surprised by this recently:

One of my receivers from the 80s has died. Do any of you have budget suggestions for replacement? Was hoping to find a decent replacement for $500 or less.

Marantz 2275
Pioineer SX-950 SX-980 with 80 watts RMS per channel should less than 400

Gotta keep that music going!
No chance it's a reasonably easy repair?

#3262 4 months ago

Power just turned off while I was using it and it won't power back on. I did the easy checking to see if power fuse had blown but that was not it. Definitely lived a long and useful life. At this point I am thinking may as well update.

Figured I would ask. I mean if it's a cheapo, then no major loss. If it's high end, may be worth looking at I figured. Possible fuse or power supply issue internally that finally gave out....but could obviously be many different things.

Hope you find a great replacement!

My old receiver was budget to begin with, but things seem to last longer that were made back then.

Thinking about getting another turntable as well. here is this weekend's find at my used record spot. Sounds great on vinyl!

what was your receiver? you may find a place to repair it.
Classicaudio.com is a bit pricey on the restored units they sell.

I love the classic Marantz receives but boy, they sure are getting pricey!
I had a "Natural Sound" Yamaha in the late 70s. I really liked it also and you still get them at a good price.
This one on eBay is not bad at $299 shipped. And includes returns if you're not happy.

No kidding. I think there's some drama with the old labels unfortunately. Hopefully we'll get that and pure rock on vinyl someday.

Discogs is now blocking bootlegs on the site. So if you see one you want, you best grab it.
Prices gonna jump. Glad I got some Tapes From the Mother Ship.

Recently I have been wondering how an older receiver would sound vs my Onkyo tx-nr3007, found a local Yamaha CR-820 for $165. Worth picking up? Seems like I could resell and break even if I hate it.

How could you go wrong if that Yamaha is working well and $165!
I don't know about comparison. I've had a couple Onkyo receivers and really liked them. I still use a NR838 in one of my TV setups.

Every year I bust out a good bottle of bourbon and sit down and play the first four (and most vital) U2 records. I was a total U2 fanboy in the 80’s and thought they could do no wrong. Well that was true for about 10 years. Either way, these are all great and I really enjoy doing this every year.

I don't listen to them much anymore but I was also a huge U2 fanboy... still have a lot of rare stuff squirreled away somewhere. I did just pick up their new one on double blue vinyl, need to find a time to give it a proper hearing.
