Anyone have the metallica black album reissue? How's the sound quality? My experience with their other reissues is that they're God awful, but I've read that the black album is the exception. Wouldn't mind picking it up if that's the case.

#3209 5 years ago

Really enjoying tonight's selection.

I also replaced a bunch of paper sleeves this weekend.

Golden Janis. Second studio album and she was already gone. So tragic.
I wore out the cover but the vinyl remains sweet!

I'm pretty happy with the remasters I've bought so far. I have Kill em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets and Garage Days. I don't have a reference of an original vinyl, but I think they sound great. Admittedly the records start spinning on average 4 or 5 drinks in, but no way they are god awful. I likely won't buy any more because I'm an old Metallica snob. Ha!

Enjoying the David Bromberg Band tonight.

My local record store isn’t getting a copy of the Roy Buchanan Live at the Town Hall LP.

Anyone shopping that day and can pick it up for me, I’ll pay you royally.

Ugh! I love Van Halen and I love Sammy Hagar but I really hate the stuff they did together.

On a side note, I never noticed that the guy on the cover looks like he’s holding a giant pinball.

I like Van Halen with both though I prefer Roth. They are practically two different bands.

I agree like two different bands. I also like both versions.

Hello dad, I'm in jail;
I like it here!

Good album.

What album was it that had "shake your head"?

BTW, Bloody Kisses is an AWESOME album. Wish it had original cover art before they censored the cd...

Thanks for asking!! That's 2 more than my record store had. I should have given my local store a heads-up to order one. (:
I believe it was limited to 750 anyway.
It'll show up somewhere. I've seen it already online at $70.

A local auction house is having a coin and stamp sale in a couple weeks. Hopefully no one else shows up for the vintage audio equipment and this vinyl collection.

Ended up being the first time picker of a new / used arrival box, Rush Priest, Def Leppard, Alice, Scorpions, BOC, Sabbath, Areosmith and Rainbow. Brought 16 albums for $65. Including a favorite TV show sound track.

ok, i need to ask and it's a stupid question. does vinyl really sound better than a cd or high res download? i had a vinyl player as a kid, but i didn't use it for music. more for children read along books. i've gotten mixed answers from some folks if it does sound better i'm interested in getting a player, but sort of wonder it is will sound better or would it be for more enthusiasts?

If you have good equipment and clean records yes. But honestly for me it is the fun of listening to vinyl records. I still listen to a lot of cds, mp3s, and streaming as well

#3241 5 years ago

Nothing beats/compares to vinyl imo. That static sound before the first sound or beat is soohoo recognizable. Plus the large cool cover is a bonus

The question since the first CDs came on the market.
I don't really know that it's 'better', but to me it's different and a sound I prefer.

I like this article that points out pros and cons.

It depends on the release, your set up, etc. There's no real universal truth to it. The pre-CD era is where I really tend to notice the difference, where the reissues don't live up to the vinyl. Also, when you get into promo vinyl and 12"s and stuff you can tell a difference in quality between different vinyl releases.

It's the whole experience.
Removing the record from the sleeve, the ritual of cleaning it and dropping the needle on it.
Reading the liner notes and artwork while you're listening to it.

And, I think that most here would agree with me, is buying them !
Nothing beats hours spent browsing through the bins at your favorite record store.
And yes......I like the way they sound too!

That's awesome. Anyone remember "What Up Dog", "Earth To Doris" and "Dad I'm in Jail" being featured on MTV's Liquid Television around '92? Those were some memorable animations to match those tracks. Damn that was an awesome show....Aeon Flux, Beavis & Butthead, Stick Figure Theater. Groundbreaking.

I wondered where I remembered "Dad I'm in jail" from. That had to be it. Also used to go to the "Spike and Mike Sick and Twisted Animation Festival" when it came around.
