It kills me every time I go to my brothers place, so many great albums and he doesn't own a turntable.

Give him a turntable for his next birthday.

Great album, love the phone too! Western Electric 500DM?

It's so cool to see Vinyl coming back! I've also been enjoying the search and acquisition for both old and new records again. Saved about 300 albums from the 70's & 80's, and having a good time with the newly remastered (lots of marketing hype) "180 Gram" audiophile colored and black wax releases. It's AMAZING what you can spend on a turntable these days - - the manufacturers must be watching the pinball market $5k, $10k, $20k, and upwards of $100k!!! Beautiful machines out there to spin ~ $5 to $50 discs!
For me, as cool as the new tables are to look at, I love the "vintage" feel of the equipment from "my" era and have restored a humble Pioneer system that was nice in the 70's (except for the speakers which are new). It all sounds great and I like the exercise of getting up to flip the records and turn up/down the volume

Keeping it pinball, I hooked up a Bluetooth transmitter to the Tape Output of the receiver so I can listen to records in the game room! Gotta love modern technology (sometimes).

Keep 'em spinning and flipping out there guys!

Thanks! The only info embossed on the phone, (which actually works), is Northern Telecom 1970. Prolly Canada's version of the Western Electric.

Quoted from ssbodyman:

It's those metal 2x2 studs that they use in commercial construction. It's a little too industrial looking for my taste and has sharp edges so not ideal if there are kids or drunk adults around.

It looks like 1 5/8" steel track (25 gauge) but yes, used in commercial construction!

Yes, long story with antitrust suits going back to the 40’s but they are essentially the same. I’m working on a similar vintage Nortel this morning, the DMS 250:

SX-1250? We have a couple Pioneer silver-face guys in here.. I'm still rockin' the SX-780 but I dug out a pair of Andrew Jones' speakers for it this week, wife wasn't digging the NHT/M&K setup I had been using.

You are not kidding. I don't know who the hell buys a 14k turntable or a 3k stylus. Do you really get that much more pleasure out of spending that much?

The new gear is pretty impressive. You can spend 1k on a total system and get a sound quality that would have costed 10k back in the old days, especially turntables. I just wish some would make a modern day changer.

BTW - is that a 1250? I have one of those bad boys, weighs a metric ton.

#1817 1 year ago

Yes, it's a Pioneer SX-1250 that's been re-capped. Sounds great and it does weigh a lot ~80lbs or so. Had to reinforce the cabinet that it's sitting in
The turntables are PL-630's. I really love the equipment from back then. Prices have gone thru the roof on ebay! Would LOVE an SX -1980, but can't part with $4k people are asking for them. Hell, that's more than half the cost of a new pin! Priorities you know

I wish, because then I could take the pill... no, it's where I've been spilling my coffee for the past couple years. At night I like to put my head down, walk real fast and pretend I'm Red 5 making the trench run at the end of Episode IV.

Possible best live album..?

Humble Pie at the Fillmore?

I just can't get in to that album at all. I swear I've listed to it 5 or 6 times and I just don't get it.

My favorite live album right now is Ten Years After: Recorded Live

but certainly Nirvana Unplugged in New York is also better than some old Humble Pie at the Fillmore:

You're gonna make me go look now, but I think it's actually an old Sun workstation... definitely a 9-pin dot matrix though, and I do love that noise.

I would totally walk around with that toy in my shirt pocket, even though he's not how I got my nickname mmkay.

Have you checked out Ghost? Especially their early stuff, it’s like Sabbath meets BÖC.

Anyone ever heard of these guys? I picked it up because it was from 1988, cheep and I like the look of it. Couldn't find much info about them other than they were from Madison Wi and only put out this one album on vinyl only. That and there are 3 for sale on discogs one for 20 bucks and the other two are 180 and 200.

The $20 Discogs album looks to have the "very good" rating. Apparently that can include "noticeable groove wear" and "surface noise will not overpower the music". If yours in one of the "near mint", looks like you might have a hard to find album.

#1830 1 year ago

If someone gave me 20 bucks I'd make 10x my investment.

This is Cut Chemist “Metalstorm”. I preordered the LP titled Die Cut.
