Excellent! The art in them is exceptional. This is one of my favorites. They are getting hard to find.

IMG_1894 (resized).JPG

And I love finding them in the Art of Rock.

Get the 3. Very well worth it. Great stuff.

Friday nights spin after a long day of work. Love this album.
Finally got my Technics SL-1600 put back together after a complete tare down and re-grease. Next up is my SL-1300.

Nice one! I have a SL-1650, the best changer I've run across. Love that model.

#1706 1 year ago

Yup, great table you have. I need to find a dust cover and hinges for mine. Rescued it from CL ad for vinyl. They got it in a house clean out. Got it for $20. It turned on but none of the automatics worked. It was neglected for years and all the grease was dry and the mechs were all locked up. Works fantastic now.

Quoted from Fulltilt:

Anyone else collect concert posters along with vinyl?

Although not the same venue (mine was the UIC, Chicago '92) that was my first Megadeth concert.

#1708 1 year ago
Quoted from Chisox:

Yes I have quite a few. Love the artwork on a lot of them.

That Ween poster is awesome!!!!!!!

I used to love taking psychedelic drugs and trippin for hours listening to Ween

If willatrilla didn't use the chocolate and cheese album as his avatar, I would.

#1709 1 year ago

Appreciate all the input from everyone. Still figuring out what will work best. I think for just general listening and ease of use I may do some wireless...mainly to have independent music every where for parties and stuff but good wired speakers when I want to enjoy my vinyl.

Morning workout tunes...

Seeing all these technics posts reminded me I've had this thing sitting on a shelf for months. It's an SL 1350 mkii and the plastic piece that controls the automatic arm movement is broken. I've got a replacement part and need to get it back together.

Haven't been on Pinside in maybe 2 or 3 years, but I'm pretty stoked on the Vinyl club. I've been collecting my own since I was maybe 19, cause I have a lot of (subjectively) the good stuff because of my father, but there's nothing better than nabbing some vinyl from some of my favorite bands! I'll dig up some pictures of my stuff here soon.

Mann is da' man. It's the inside cover that's best.

Welcome back skrippy and welcome to the best thread on pinside.

Looks like a lot of good tunes playing on Saturday night.

I only have one concert poster.
I took it off of the front of a Chinese market in NYC a few years ago.

My friend struck a deal on CL for a bunch of Martin speakers.
The guy was a personal friend of Mr. Martin and several of these speakers were custom
Made for him.
So we drove into Long Island and filled the mini van with speakers. A total trip of 500 miles!
I got a pair out of the deal!
These things kick ass.
They work well hooked to my old Dynaco.
I'm retiring my 901's.

Got back into vinyl about five years ago. It has been an enjoyable journey that just keeps going. Pulled the CD player out of rotation and now it is vinyl only. What a difference. Usher R1.5 amp, Sutherland phono amp, BAT VK30 tube pre, Thorens TD125 MK II with completely rewired SME 3009 from SME Tonearms in Canada, Tyler Acoustics MM5x's built as floorstanders. Very relaxing room to spend some time.

I have wonderful memories of the AR. I loved mine. First time I ever heard one was walking into my friends living room in '74 and he was blasting Trower's Bridge of Sighs. Auditory memories are permanent also.

Had to see it for myself.

This vinyl hobby is getting expensive. (add that to Pinball !!)
Where are you guys scoring your "finds"?

my wife works estate sales and sometimes finds a collection. Every now and then, a friend may find a box of records for me.

Do you ever find on craigslist?

Right now, Discogs and the local record store seem to be taking $300 a month from me

#1728 1 year ago

Garage sales...flea markets....

#1729 1 year ago

Back in the mid 80s I used to go to Atlanta 3-4 times a year for record shows and hit the local shops. I would blow whatever I had saved up. Glad I did when times were vinyl friendly. Found a lot of cool stuff and still have it all. Bought a few albums locally here from an individual selling a collection about a 2 months ago. Spent $100 in no time. Someone bought the remaining the next day for a huge amount. Vinyl is the coolest. Would buy more but most are overpriced and not in the greatest condition.

#1730 1 year ago
Quoted from rolandthoms:

95% of mine came from record purchases in the 70's and 80's.
Discogs is nice for finding that specific something you are looking for. Otherwise flea markets, yard sales, thrift stores.
My purchases off Discogs have been right in line with the descriptions, that's a plus. The flea market, yard sale route can be a gamble.

#1731 1 year ago

There are a ton of listings on craigslist. I'm just not sure I want to start dropping in on peoples homes.

#1732 1 year ago

Every church rummage sale has many boxes of vinyl, usually for .50 each or $10 a box.

#1733 1 year ago

The thing is, there are only so many records you can listen to. I've got more records than time at this point. Buying in bulk just leaves you with extra junk to deal with so you might want to think about being patient and selective.

I think the best time for vinyl was the mid to late 90s. I found so many good records for reasonable prices, or free, back then. Almost nobody wanted records. Now it's like people think they're a gold mine. I've been buying dirt cheap CDs lately.

I have to agree with that.

Kinda' like pins.

I bet I've bought less than 2 dozen records in the past 15 years and most of that has been since joining this damn group! Seems like plenty of stuff I haven't listened to in years sounds good again when I play it.

I agree, I have plenty to listen to. I'm sick and tired of music I know (rock/pop) and trying different types of music from long gone eras. I would get a 78 player if the quality of the records wasn't so much crap.

#1736 1 year ago

I found this one in a recent bulk buy.

Neat art. Pretty fitting for the site.

However, some of the real gems were original Beatles and Stones pressing (we’ll loved), oh, and some Zappa too

Wish I had that record!

My problem is that I like digging almost as much as listening. I'm constantly on the lookout and it's crazy where you can find records sometimes. Luckily Mrs. JB is very patient about this. We can't go anywhere without me finding a few spots.

#1738 1 year ago

The dig is half the fun. I can recall the joy I had in the 80s finding that rare 12” from a favorite artist at the record store. Now you can also do the dig online with discogs

And what’s up with $20records and $8 cds? It used to be the other way around

I am loving the way today’s artists are embracing the medium

TV on the radio’s “seeds” marries the audio to the visual. Heavy vinyl. 2 large booklets and mind-tripping fun

I know most Pinsiders hate the Beatles and look at them as "grandpaw's music" but you can get a picture disc of Sgt. Pepper's for $20 today!

Don't turn it up too loud, or you won't be able to hear if there's kids playing on your lawn.

If anyone listens to "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and calls it grandpa music they need to take another listen!

Have the original but gotta' have the picture disc! (:

I think I've got five to ten years before this is considered grandpa music.
