What's the best way to clean 45's?
New to collecting recommendations appreciated.
Kits available? What works?
Also looking at recommendations on places to purchase 45's
Cheers

I have a VPI machine. It's time consuming, but cleans those dirty 45s really well.

Danny Gatton was an amazing guitarist.
After years of battling depression, he chose to end his life.
We all know how it went down.
Please show some respect.

I think the mods must have already deleated it, I read backwards and could not find anything.

1973 at the Embers Beach Club in Atlantic Beach. I was one of the few white kids.
What a great show. I think Jr is one of the underrated players.

I dig it! Makes me want to break into my old high school and smoke butts in the bathroom.

#1616 6 years ago
Quoted from ssbodyman:

Back in 1993 my wife asked for one thing from the DJ we hired for our wedding reception. She wanted Steelheart's I'll never let you go for our first dance. He fucked up and didn't get it so my best man had to drive to my house and get the cd, too bad streaming wasn't a thing back then.
When I got back into records I knew I'd have to find it on vinyl but didn't realize how hard it would be to track down. Today it finally is in my collection, can't wait to listen to it with her.

No lie. It's extremely difficult to find a lot of popular music from 91-96 on vinyl.

That's the middle aged man's music **dead zone** .

Music not hip enough to be reissued on vinyl, yet not old enough to have been originally on vinyl.

Try getting 45s after that...-almost impossible.

I am new to owning a jukebox that plays 45's its a Seeburg VL200.
I have some 45 record that when selected, continue to go round and round with needle on record but never actually play music.
Other records it plays fine.
These records are in great condition, if I pick up the needle and place it in a different location on record where music is it plays fine.

Is this an needle issue, alignment issue or something else?

Thanks for your help

Sounds like the arm needs adjusting or maybe new springs on each side. I also purchased a Seeburg (Q160) as my first jukebox, I love the way it looked. Turns out the Seeburg is allot more complicated then Rowe AMI and other brands, due to the Tormat device. As for the double sided needle they command a pretty good price, try to avoid getting a new one. Good luck!

Does it get stuck at the beginning or end of the 45?

OK, so looking closely at the 45 while it happens, is the needle not catching in the lead-in groove ?

They have that Jane's Addition on the big $$$$ wall at my local record store, I want it but refuse to pay what they're asking.

Nice, I have a pretty hefty Jane's Addition record collection too. You've got some good stuff there (Shocking EP, Been Caught Steeling 12", Stop ", Nothings Shocking with the weird vinyl sleeve ....) I regret never buying that Porno for Pyros on Wax. I think I bought that on tape. Great album. Their second one maybe even better.

Beck has another fairly deep section in my collection (mostly early stuff). So, I've been DJing forever and I recently pulled out my copy of Odelay (the one with the poster) only to remember that I used doubles of that and scratched with it (the marking stickers were still on it). Doh! It's like a $75 record now!

I just pulled the pic from google. We had a flood basement 2 houses back and I lost my vinyl and concert ticket stub collection, amongst other things. Hard not to think what some of the values would be. Had some live bootleg albums and I saw one in the record store for $200 recently.

I miss album covers the most I think. When I saw jane addiction's Ritual album I knew I had to find out what these guys were all about. Nothing shocking was even better. Maybe I just like boobies?

Beck's Odelay was very influential to me. A white guy with lots of funk and soul. I started to learn how to freestyle over 2 turntables and a microphone. Speaking of white guys with lots of rhythm, another classic 90s album.

Beastie Boys? That's another group where my collection runs deep (probably not in a healthy way):

(You can also see my Beck "Golden Feelings" cassette in the box at the beginning)

What is the best 45's record cleaner if I wanted to keep it around or under $100?

Many record stores will clean your discs on their $$$$ machine, then return them in new sleeves.

Picked up a portable table for scratching 7" records. It's been modified with a custom crossfader, carbon fiber tonearm, and extended pitch range. I can hook my phone up to play beats and scratch wherever I want (church, funerals, barmitzvas, etc.)

New acquisition, Bose 901 speakers... Man Bose really made some weird shit back in the day. Obviously need a new foam kit, but I'm excited to hear them!

Yeah baby, I remember the days I dreamed of 901s.

#1642 6 years ago
Quoted from Ronnie1114:

New acquisition: Bose 901 speakers. Man Bose really made some weird shit back in the day.

Part of their direct/reflected design, with eight 5" speakers facing forward and one more facing backward. It required placement in front of a wall that would reflect the sound from the rear speaker to add dimension. A pair of 901s came with a module that boosted the bass frequencies to make up for the lack of bass response in the small diameter speakers despite the large number of them.

#1643 6 years ago

901's are nice speakers, but a little weak in the low end.
You'll need a pretty powerful amp to drive them.
And, as said earlier they have a special eq that you will need.

I have a pair of Series four, going on thirty years. I like them.

#1644 6 years ago

Will need to find the EQ, as they didnt come with it. Thanks for the info folks!
