Quoted from Madmax541:

Do remakes put current music on 45's

Some companies like 3rd Man still make new material on singles:

Quoted from Coyote:

I would check local stores first for older 45's. For a few reasons: (1) You get to know the local owners, and if you're nice and build a rapport with them, then when they get new (dropoffs) in, they'll contact you first for picking rights. (2) Cheaper, overall - unless you find an ebay seller that has a handful of records you want, shipping will double (or more) the cost of a 45's. On top of that, 45's on ebay are generally higher than you can get at local stores.

This is a great option for newer songs. However - if you remember where you saw that price, please let us know. The last time I checked, the places I found ran upwards of $60-$80 for one.

Been a while since I priced getting a custom record done.....I did a quick look and if this guy is still providing service it may be reasonable.....good article as well. Makes me want to find a lathe and make a few records.

Quoted from KeithinMI:

This finally showed up at my house last week.
(in the background, on my board is a set list from Heart at Caesars in Windsor, the last time they were here, signed by Ann & Nancy Wilson)

I don't know about the mono box, but I don't like the mastering on the stereo box set. Seems too flat or something. I think the Capitol box sets, and the original CD's I bought way back when sound so much better.

Looks like it might not be the best for records - pushing down on the top, is that putting more pressure on the stylus resting in the groove?

I can't see how this would be stable at 78 RPM, but I'm curious.

#1505 1 year ago

Just a curious observation... anyone else see 'new' vinyl holding more static than older records?
I haven't bought new records until the past year or so. I clean them with a Disc Washer which may be a culprit in the issue.

They advertise crackles and pops, which tells me They already miss the point.

I haven't noticed, but I always zap them with my Zerostat gun.

Anyone have a set of Vandersteen 2CE's?

Maybe I need a gun? (:
I get tired of having the mat come up with the record...

I use double sided tape on mine, attach it to the rubber mat.

Try a dryer sheet under your mat.

The record store we go to has a pile of 45's for $.50 a piece.
A whole box for $20.00.

So I grabbed a box without even looking inside.
Spent the whole weekend listening to them.

What a blast!

A lot of sappy hits from the sixties and seventies. A lot of stuff we never heard of.
A pile we didn't even get to yet.

A strong argument for getting a jukebox!

It’s a bit of a hike from you but have you ever checked out Record Connection in Ephrata? He’s got a ridiculous amount of vinyl, I’ve been picking out 45s for the jukebox I don’t have yet too.

I have owned a few Vandersteen’s. Do you have questions or looking for a soul mate?

Calm rainy sunday afternoon...seemed like a good time to finally open my new Blind Melon. Double LP gatefold. Albums came in plain white sleeves but also included extra sleeves with lyrics etc on them.....why do people support digital, intangible music again???

vid1900 thx for that latest crate and barrel sale alert. Picked up a couple other good deals out of that too.

Need advise. I have all my dads records and some of them are stuck together from moisture. Any good ideas on how to get them apart without ripping them? LOTS of good stuff....

The only thing I can think of is more moisture, separate, then let dry. The covers are going to be damaged any way you look at it but you might end up with wavy water-damaged art vs. the art being ripped off and stuck to the adjacent record.

Get the records OUT of the sleeves first if you try this. Water in records is BAD. They get really crackly and cleaning them is pretty much impossible (at least I've never had good success). Even using the wood glue trick doesn't help much with mildew in the grooves.

Thanks for the info. They were in my parents basement during a few floods. Never submersed but definitely got some moisture exposure. I was thinking the same thing though, MORE moisture. Probably a hot shower with the door closed and no fan or someting.

Luckily, its not ALL of them. I plan to get them all out of the crates and make piles of GOOD/BAD/WORSE before I go about trying to separate any.

Thanks again.

My little haul for the day. "Get On the Bus" has a Tribe Called Quest rarity on it called "The Remedy" featuring Common.

Oh, and I believe J Dilla, Q-Tip and Ali did the production on the track.

I think that's the way to go, followed by a good wet cleaning of each disc.
