Been so long but I remember now why I loved this album. Time to "tend my garden".

And just thought about .. no Van Morrison love? What's up with that?

I can't be the only one still obsessed with these guys.

Quoted from jhanley:
I went to the Book of Dreams concert in the late seventies. One of the best ever.
I wish I saw him on that tour. I saw him when Abracadabra came out and really enjoyed the show.

I just saw him tonight with Peter Framptom at Caesars--great concert!

#1255 1 year ago
Quoted from Fulltilt:

I wish I could have seen them anytime. The Joker was one of my favs... Speaking "of the pompatus of love"!
What a great song.

Saw him tonight (I guess technically last night now) at Caesars Palace with Frampton. Awesome show and The Joker was the highlight of the show for me.

I have both of their CDs and listen from them time to time. I don't think the first album has held up so much, but Spilt Milk is a different animal. SP&P is a great song. They had their chance but threw it away.

#1257 1 year ago

Spilt Milk is incredible. All the genius of Brian Wilson and Queen rolled up and engineered to perfection by JJP and I don't mean that short guy from New Jersey.

Also, I see that upvote and raise you:

Cool. I love that album but I've never seen that version. Not a big color vinyl guy but I would scoop that up in a second.

A little lighter than most but great music tonight. The great Donny.

I would love that Heavy Metal album. Great soundtrack.

Hell yeah, you've got great range in your selections.

Memories drive my music. Back in '73, I had a good friend who played bass in a local band. He'd always play Donny Hathaway when we rode around partaking. I always think of him when playing Donny.
Eric, where are you now?!

#1265 1 year ago

Nice finds yesterday in the under $5 bin.

First a shoutout to @ nightsearcher for the invite over to play some pins last weekend. Without the invite I wouldn't have headed into town and found a killer moving/garage sale. 12 full boxes of vinyl for only $20!!!! For only $10 more she sold me a nice 70s Zenith home console stereo. Has both 8 track and a record player in it. Not a ton of keepers but this Skateboarding album caught my attention. 1978 and a skateboard glossary of terms on the back is totally rad20170811_150549 (resized).jpg20170811_150522 (resized).jpg20170811_150532 (resized).jpg

I picked up that Winger ST album a few months ago. Great songwriting and production....every song is well written.

Can't argue with that, it wasn't bad but for me is hard to beat the late 80's early 90's music

What is this? Are those LEDs on the cartridge? I assume this is a way way high end tt or is it your creation? It looks like belt replacement is simple...

In college I hung the turntable from the ceiling with chains and a thick plywood base.

A bunch of 45s for anyone who might be interested. 320+. A huge variety, AC/DC to ZZ Top. 70s, 80s, & 90s. Even some R&B and disco!
Thought I might one day pickup a juke but doesn't look that way.

Asking $150. Free pickup in Johnson City, TN. Media Mail shipping at cost.
(or come sort through them at the Good Samaritan if nobody wants them.)

I was going to mention you (didn't forget), since I have had so many things in life that I haven't been able to get thru mine...

Hope they find a home

#1286 1 year ago

@ fulltilt. Yes the phono cart has LED's in it because it is a powered unit and the LED's let you know when it's energized or powered down.

It's called a strain gauge cartridge and uses displacement rather than current to create the signal. Soundsmith makes it and it comes with a dedicated phono preamp/power supply.

It has very low mass and tracks the Groove in a way unlike any other cart. It's super high definition vinyl.

#1287 1 year ago

Wow, I don't know why I never thought to turn to Pinside for Vinyl enthusiasts, but I just put my old turntable back together as I couldn't seem to solve the issues with the motor lagging.

I'd love some tips and such from the mode dedicated out there. I have a large collection of vinyl but I only listen to a small selection of classic rock and metal.
I also listen to lots of pre-war 78's I just enjoy the music of the turn of the century.

Most my 78's are over a hundred years old, and I find it exciting to listen knowing that this was made before anyone thought there was going to be a Great War, let alone two! Back when cars were just beginning to be mass produced and everyone carried a pocket watch and wrist watches wouldn't come about for another 30+ years!

I'm more a history buff when it comes to a lot of stuff like vinyl or pinball or arcade games. I like the story behind them which supplements the character or lack of "quality" as some may say!

I'll post some pictures later hopefully.

45s are sold. Thanks!

Soundsmith is fantastic. In addition to their cartridges, they do fantastic repair. I had them repair an old Dokorder reel-to-reel a few years ago. The deck was better than new when they were done. Highly recommended folks.

Check your Led Zeppelin album. According to Discogs, you might be sitting on a nice one.

If you need a dose of silly Pop-Country to lure some trailer trash into your "listening room", Zac Brown is youall's boy.

I still can't believe that **songwriters** are still writing songs where addictive drug terms are used to describe being in love with a woman, (it's like Huey Louis 40 years latter), but it's here for you.

BEAUTIFUL DRUG

I got a death wish
Her looks can kill
She's got a red dress
Lipstick and heels
Pull me in, get me hooked like a junkie
You got me feeling so high

You're such a beautiful drug
I can't get enough
Addicted and I'm dying for a hit of your love
Got a death wish baby, baby
Don't want you to save me, save me

She lets her hair down
And all of mine stand up
Can't help but stare now
Gotta feel that touch
Her kiss, my fix, so sweet
Can't quit those lips are a habit to me
Sweet intoxication and I'm never getting sober
I can tell that the effects are taking over
Pull me in, get me hooked like a junkie
You got me feeling so high

You're such a beautiful drug
I can't get enough
Addicted and I'm dying for a hit of your love
Got a death wish baby, baby
Don't want you to save me, save me
Tonight
Whoa, whoa, whoa
Whoa, whoa, whoa

You're such a beautiful drug
I can't get enough
I'm addicted and dying for a hit of your love
I'm losing it, baby
Keep driving me crazy, crazy

Going out of my mind
Staring at you
Burning up in your fire that I've fallen into
Got a death wish baby, baby
Don't want you to save me, save me
Tonight
