Has anyone ever heard an old album, only to have it become revealed to you as absolute magic.

It just all clicked together with two albums for me just recently. They are albums I listened to for the first time fully. (Finally)

The two albums are:

Lou reed transformer.

David Bowie earthling.

A lot of Bowie recently. Black star. Lazarus.

Music is one of the greatest things we have in this world! This is an absolute truth in my life.

The return of the thin white duke.

I realized that the movie the hunger turned the thin white duke into a vampire. Forever.

Digression over…

Quoted from Azmodeus:

Has anyone ever heard an old album, only to have it become revealed to you as absolute magic.

I am often mine my collection for overlooked records that will blow my mind on revisit. This has happened with several of the Kinks records from the 1970’s that I had not listened to closely enough before.

I have also rediscovered The Fire of Love by The Gun Club. I hadn’t listened to it in decades. After playing it again recently, I cannot keep it off of the turntable

Bowie is a constant in my life. I will never get enough of his music. I own everything he ever released and saw him live many times. His death is the musical loss that has stung the most. I honestly thought he would be here forever.

This is why I will not listen to an album before buying it.

Many of my favorite albums were albums I did not like upon the first listening.

This is also why I don't get rid of albums......you just never know!

Bowie's death hit me hard. I bought Blackstar and listened to it once.

I'm not sure if I'm ready to hear it again. Maybe.....I just don't know.

Many of my friends haver heard Lazarus. It’s fun to watch them like it.
Sax is beautiful. The whole thing is a beauty.

#7007 2 years ago

Thank you. That's the first time I've listened to it since his passing.

Profoundly sad and beautiful.

Bowie turned his own death into art.

I agree with you totally. I saw him in a small venue here in the early 70’s. Ziggy Stardust show. I still remember his outfit and make up. When he started with Starman, with Mick Ronson, pure magic. We lost Mick early to liver cancer, too.

By a large margin, this one has had the most spins since RSD.

Agree with all the Bowie love. Have everything he put out and still have not been able to listen to my copy of Black Star. Also agree about not judging an album upon first , second or third listening, some of my fav stuff was only discovered many plays later. I do like putting all my cds and lps on to my Ipod and hitting shuffle and finding out the song I just heard and loved is on that album that I hated.

I've never been able to limit it to a list. When I try, there is always another.

Transformer is definitely on the list.

And Mr. Magic. Turn it up on a pair of Klipshorns. Oh my.

I thought you might want to see the original lip, 1968, bought by myself then. Heavy psychedelic. The God of Hellfire, this had Fire on it. I have a large vinyl collection, love it.

One of my friends who is a touch older than me saw this ziggy show in Long Beach in the 70s.

I was six years old I think, but damn. He was on the right track.

Too many losses.... another great one.
This ranks with some of my most treasured albums. Wayback memories.
[quoted image]

My first concert, 1968, I was 14, was Iron Butterfly, this album was current. I will always remember it, of course. The backup band was called Blues Image (Ride, Captain Ride on your mystery ship) . If anyone wants to see their next band, it was Captain Beyond. 1972-1974, this was half Iron Butterfly, half early Deep Purple, and one more from Johnny Winters. Quite a group.

That copy of Aftermath looks gorgeous, is it a sixties copy?

#7036 2 years ago

Yes, it is an original UK mono pressing. There are several variation of this pressing. The sleeve with the shadow lettering is the rarest. Most of them, like mine, just have the plain lettering.

Aftermath is my favorite pre-Jimmy Miller era Stones album, although I do the Us version just slightly better than this UK pressing. Either way, it is essential to hear these in mono.

Always thought this was such a bad album cover. Most people don't even look to see what it is due to the title and the cover. Columbia had produced some Half-Speed Mastered vinyl records for Floyd (The Wall, Animals, Meddle, DSOTM and Wish You Were Here). This album has songs from each of the albums, all Half-Speed Mastered.

I bought this a long time ago.3 sided, clear, 1967 show, excellent recording. I am old and fortunate enough to have seen him in 1970, Band of Gypsys show. I was 16. In those days everyone sat down and enjoyed a show. He was the master of a guitar.
