Finally picked Alice Coopers, Lace And Whiskey. New Rhino reissue, on Whiskey brown
color vinyl.

What a great Album, cant believe I found a lost Cooper classic, to me at least. It only took 40 years.
The Ezrin production is huge, not to long after this album he started on the Wall for Floyd.

The album starts with 3 strait crushers,
It's Hot Tonight
Lace and Whiskey
Road rats,
Before it settles down into more dramatic Cooper/Ezrin storytelling songs.

The Final song MY GOD is an epic, with a massive sounding church organ, and choir.
Great guitar tones on the whole album.

A general question for you guys. How often do you buy new vinyl off the internet, and how frequently is it damaged when it arrives? Just about any time I order something sealed, it arrives with the sleeve and inner sleeve split badly due to cheap packaging or rough handling. I'm wondering if this is super common or I am just getting very unlucky.

#6453 3 years ago

I buy vinyl off the internet on a weekly basis and I have to say it is rarely damaged. Most everyone uses the vinyl cardboard packaging when shipping and that seems to work well. The times that I’ve received a damaged item is when that type of packaging wasn’t used.

#6454 3 years ago

Newer vinyl is most often pressure warped from being stored improperly during shipping. That’s been my biggest issue over the last decade of the vinyl revival.

#6455 3 years ago

Most people who ship LPs for a living or even a hobby know how to ship them.

I ordered a number of records early pandemic and all showed up perfectly.

I guess you may want to avoid it in the hottest months as they could melt?

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

You'd think that would be the case. I'm specifically talking about putting a large order in a box for a record store and disreguarding "This End Up" pretty much always. I have had to return countless LPs over the recent years due to pressure warping. If I'm buying at the going rate for new vinyl now (~$40) that shit better be flat with sharp corners unless discounted.

I rarely have issues with buying individual items from another collector or store on Discogs.

If you continue to have bad luck, maybe just stick to the vendors you know and/or have successfully done business with in the past. Otherwise, it’s always going to be a crap shoot.

#6458 3 years ago

I buy and sell hundreds and hundreds of LPs a year.

Packaging is important. Must have pressure holding a sealed LP tightly in place, but not too much as to crush the sleeve.

IF you are not a collector of Sealed LPs, good advice is to ask the seller/vendor to pull the disc out of the sleeve and ship it outside of the jacket. I have a bunch of guys who request this on all New LPs they buy. They also know I will run it on my VPI and sleeve it in an MFSL type inner when I do this for them.

Saves a lot of splitting/knifing headaches that way.

As for Retailers : ElusiveDisc and PlaidRoom are both quality sources who ship right and are a breeze to deal with. Highly endorse them both.

Got an e-mail today that my Colemine comp will finally be here Monday. Stoked. Although I do admit to streaming some stuff while I’ve been waiting. In the meantime...I found a Replacement (weak dad joke).

Nice....you have impeccable taste. Let It Be is without a shadow of a doubt in my top 5 all time favorites. I like to keep a spare or two around...

Picked this up hoping it would be a quality reissue, since it's remastered from the original tapes, blah, blah...

Unfortunately, it's mediocre at best. Sounds a bit on the thin side. It's much better than the previous release, but this album still deserves better.

That album is pretty poorly recorded. And yeah, the re. from a year or two back is no improvement over the original CD.

They just did a box set re. of it and some bonus materials, but I have not heard much re the fidelity of the new one.

The BC LP to hunt down is the S. Korean Pressing of SHaMC.
That thing sounds tremendous!

#6462 3 years ago

I buy 90% of my records at local shops, and one or two online a month. The records shipped here in north America I've had little or no damage.

The European records are another story. 50% of them have a crushed corner. Or some other jacket damage. So I only order from Europe if it's a must have, that I can't find here.

This is the same 2020 master. I guess it's not bad overall, but should've been much better.

#6465 3 years ago

Oh! Speaking of shipping, this just arrived from the U.S. no damage.

Sammy Hagar, Live 1980. Japan pressing with OBI, and insert.
One of my favorite live albums, a Blistering 1 LP set of Hagar's best Hard rock up to 1980. Wish it was a double, mayby someday we'll get a full show from this era.

Sammy and Gary Phill are an underrated twin guitar team, from the early metal/hard rock era.

Message from the Danger Zone.

FWIW it is Gary Pihl. pronounced (Peel).

Yep, lazy of me, I had the record sitting next to me. I could have checked the spelling.
Doh!

Joe plays the hired gun on lots of other artists music as well. The one that jumps to mind is Jay Ferguson/Thunder Island.

Such a distinct sound. Genius!

Giving the club a fresh coat of paint tonight for indoor service soon. Name a bolder Side 1 Track 1 than Maggot Brain itself!

Loving the Joe Walsh, everything thing else I own is on CD. Is it wrong to enjoy a CD every now and then. Oddly, I have things on both formats, not on the other.

Any one have any feedback on BSR Five Way 1550L speakers? Looking at picking up a pair later this week. From what I read online feedback was pretty good. I would be pairing them with my Yamaha natural sound CR-820. At least one of the speakers needs new foam but getting them cheap.
