Quoted from Krupps4:

I love Jefferson Airplane. Volunteers is such a great album, especially Good Shepherd. Great tunes for the summer. Overall, I think they are an underrated band.

Early Airplane is amazing stuff. The first 3-4 LPs are incredible.

So is Hot Tuna, btw. Electric, Acoustic...don't matter one bit. Jorma and Jack always do it right.

Agreed. I had that cassette in my car when I was 16.

Grace Slick turned 81 recently, still a firecracker.

Her book is angry, bitter, and hilarious

I loved the parts where she said she dresses like a slob to go to the supermarket now because nobody wants to fuck and old lady.

I need to read it. I may have married her spirit animal.

Underrated? I wish I had a lot more than my measly selection.

Hard to believe this is 40 years old, and they’ve been broken up for 30. Guess I’ll finally give up on that reunion tour.

My girlfriend is only 35, but she's obsessed with Talking Heads, so they get played alot in my house. And the Stop Making Sense bluray is also on heavy rotation.

Possibly the best Blu Ray concert disc ever.

#5958 3 years ago

When Stop Making Sense came out I was in highschool and they'd show it every Friday night at Midnight for a year at a big theater. It was great, they'd take out the first 20 rows of seats and someone would walk to the front with a bullhorn before the movie and say "This is not a movie to sit down and watch, we took the seats out so you can come up and dance!" It was a big fun dance party.

I once actually considered buying a house in Bolinas 'cause Grace Slick had a place nearby.
"once". Now it's nuts. Sorry California but you've gone crazy.

In some respects, I like Hot Tuna more than Jefferson Airplane. When I brought up underrated, the band I should have mentioned was Hot Tuna. Those guys were still touring pre-COVID of course. Solid show. Legends at work.

I remember entering a radio contest once and they asked me for my favorite album (at the time). It was Hot Tuna's Yellow Fever.
I didn't win the contest! (:

Now it's Burgers.

Skimming on google this morning and this ad popped up for 50th anniversary LP on sale.

Am I the only one who looks at this advertisement and laughs a little?

This has been posted before but I was happy to finally pick it up this week. Pretty sweet soundtrack to start the Friday evening off with.

Election night Radio Gonzo rolls on!
From north of the border aye!
RUSH, Exit Stage Left, Live 2 LP
Japan pressing, with Obi, and both inserts.
Rush at the height of thier powers.
The Trees , Xanadu, Tom Sawyer, Spirit, Jacob's Ladder, La Villa Strangiato! What a show.
Christ, wish I could have seen them in this era.
[quoted image]

Agreed. This is my favorite album by them. Saw them in 1980 for the first time.

#5967 3 years ago

And now onto the Hagar. This one is often looked over but good rocking music.

"Strangers in the night" there live album is considered one of the great hard rock live lps of the 70s. The lead gtr on" Love to love" gave me goose bumbs and made me a big fan about 8yrs ago. For a more recent album check out Seven Deadly.

Phenomenon and Force It are probably my favorites, but I have a fairly limited knowledge of UFO.

I’m really digging the new AC/DC album. It’s the first AC/DC album that has pulled me in for quite sometime. Glad to see Brian Johnson back. One of the coolest and most appreciative dudes in rock n roll. Just really good stuff. I’m happy for them.

Very classic sounding AC/DC. It could have been sides 3 and 4, if BIB had been a double album. I saw them in 2008 and it's been one of my favorite concerts of any group. The energy and positive, fun vibe, was unmatched that night.

A good UFO starting point is Strangers In the Night, Live. One of the greatest live albums of all time, and of course acts like a Shenker era best of.

Hah!

I had a White Denim Jacket with the Zep I Gatefold Center as the Back Panel that I wore to hundreds of shows before someone lifted it from behind a speaker stack one night at a GWAR show.

Went home cold and wet that night.

Dominance! And Submission!
Blue Öyster Cult, On Your Feet Or On Your Knees. Live 1974/75.
2 lp's, Japan Pressing, with obi and triple fold out insert.
Recorded on the third album tour for Secret Treaties. Raw unhinged guitar pyrotechnics, about tales of rouge biker gangs, bad drug deals, and german fighter aces.
What more could you want from a live rock album.
Audio tales of the post Altamont come down.
Wicked!

Message from Conroy's Bar.

BOC's first three albums are so fucking good it's ridiculous. On your feet or on your knees is like a live greatest hits of that era, one of my favorite live albums ever. They have good stuff after Secret Treaties, but nothing touches those first few.

Disc 1, side 2 - might be the most relevant music this year.

But BÖC sounds good, that’ll be next.

Blue Öyster Cult, 1980 Cultasaurus Erectus.
Produced by the brilliant Martin Burch, RIP.
Japan pressing with Obi slip, and insert.
This album has 6 of my favorite BÖC songs.
Black Blade, The Marshall Plan, Unknown Tongue, Lips In The Hills, Deadline, and monsters, one of the highest quality BÖC albums.
They went on tour with the Dio led Sabbath, with the Heaven and Hell album. The band's co headlined the tour, trading off going on first, from city to city, depending on which band was a bigger draw.

It's a bit of a overlooked album, with no big radio hit, unlike the following album Fire of Unknown Origin with Burning for You.

Couple new pick ups. I was totally unaware of the Feelies but kept reading about them in “best albums of 80s” lists. Dueling jangly guitars with a driving (cymbal-free) percussion. Gets better each listen

Everyone knows “there she goes” by the la’s but they were poised for so much more. Every song on the only album kicks ass. This record captures them in BBC recordings. Better than the real album.

You bet your ass they did, got a hard “no” from the folks about going and I was pissed. In all fairness, I was 12. And as a parent there’s no way I’d let my kids (much less a degenerate like me) go to that show at 12 haha. Cheers.

Couldn't have been any worse than the look when asking about going to Woodstock at 13.
Glad they said NFW... not in those words.

I have the CD, but while doing errands I heard it on a local radio station, from the very begining. The dogs wondered why we stayed in the truck for 5 minutes after getting home.

For those looking at the Black Friday Record Store Day releases consider this as an option. My guess is it will be easily overlooked, but it’s really good stuff. I know there are some Jorma fans in this thread.
