Chilling out with Floyd tonight,
2 lp color, bootleg live at Pompei.
This version has been pressed a bunch of times in the last 10 years, on different colors.
Sounds great.

Lots of great bands came out of Athens, Georgia... here’s one that never got the attention they deserved. The duet with Emmylou Harris in particular is absolutely sublime.

Last weekend I finally got around to rebuilding the speed control unit in this LPC-1 that I got as a 2 for 1 deal when I purchased a M&MPM project machine machine last year ( https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/mr-and-mrs-pac-man-fell-on-hard-times ). I spent the good part of Sunday spinning my rather large collection of 45's.

Rollin into a Thursday night wth...
The CARS, 1984 Masterpiece, Heartbeat city.
Japan pressing, with Obi slip, and inserts.

The Cars best???? It seems to get better with every spin.

I like Candy-O as a complete album but You Might Think must be their best song.

#5757 20 days ago

Can't go wrong with Candy O, I love how raw and on the edge of disaster it sounds. Like it was live in the studio, just making it up. Heartbeat is the opposite, the ultimate in studio polish. It's great they have one of each.

#5758 20 days ago

Well...The Cars ...with 5 of 9 songs being hits has got to still be their greatest record. Though Heartbeat City probably ended up selling more albums because of that Drive song ...CandyO is.a New Wave classic and is a great listen.
I think out of their first 4 ....only Panarama is kind of a a snoozefest.

#5759 19 days ago

My friend sent me this.
Kind of cool, but I don't know if I'd want it in my house.

I always thought those things were cool.
How well does it work?
I would guess it is not very good for your records.

I remember buying Panorama when it came out, expecting it to be like the first two albums.
I played side one and fell asleep before it was over.
I never even listened to side two. Ever.
I gave it away sometime later.
For a while the bins were overflowing with used copy's of Panorama.
I guess a lot of other people felt the same way as me.

I tried it a few years back and it sounded like a kids toy. Lol. Honestly it's HORRIBLE for a record and skates and scratches all over it.

Today I just tried it on a kind of fine grooved 80s album (after being put away for a few years) and it just scratched right across it and didn't even play. I'm not sure, but I think the needle is trashed on it and that's only thing guiding it around. Unfortunately I don't think it can be replaced.

Just fun little toy....not worth a crap other than shelf conversation. Lol.

Really, kind of wanted the VW bus model of it.

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

It's the one all of the people who need to have an opinion always defer to because it had the least airplay...but it doesn't hold a candle to the 1st or to Heartbeat City.

Sometimes commercial / approachable is good. I don't want to hear obscure Ocasek. I want to hear the killer hook laden Pop.

I felt the same way but revisited it later (like 25 years later) and it’s actually pretty strong. It was pretty jarring after the first two somewhat perfect albums but it’s definitely worth checking out again. There’s no touching the first two though IMO, especially the perfectly tasty guitar playing by Elliot Easton. I challenge you to find a wasted note or lick on those discs.

Ok can we at least agree candy o has the best cover?

Also how horrible is Door to Door? I only know a couple of the singles.

Love my Candy but Shake It Up is a quality listen.

Yes we can! Especially 11 year old 1980 me. And Shake It Up is solid, Since You’ve Gone is one of the best songs of the 80s.

Think Chrissie Hynde

Ya...i totally neglected Shake it Up. Which was actually the first Cars album 11 year old me bought.
What a great band.
Could certainly bring the hooks.

Best of the 80s?

Well, I start them in 79...

so, the early 80s go to Joe Jackson for me. The Intervention Records releases of his 1st 2 (also Night and Day) are well worth your time and money.

There was so much good music coming out at that time, I couldn't keep up with it.

Just the 6 LP'S of unreleased material is mind blowing, and worth the price of admission.
Just unrivaled genius at work.

Radio gonzo is back for another Saturday night.
First up, DEEP PURPLE, Live in Long Beach 1976. 3 LP.
This is the beginning of the end of the Mark IV Deep Purple, Tommy Bolin's one album, one world tour. DP would break up at the end of this tour. Bolin would pass away a year later.
A interesting live album, not brilliant, but DP with Bolin giving it a more grovier vibe, and Lords new synth sounds are great.

Spinning into the late night....
Next up a new repress of Brant Bjork's Gods and Goddesses. Brant was the drummer of Kyuss, then joined Fu Manchu for 4 crushing albums.
In 2001 Brant went solo and dropped the sticks, to write sing and play guitar, creating groovy fuzzed out psychedelic jams.

This reissue has new art by Dirty Donnie, thus a pinball connection.

Into the midnight hour...K-gonzo is powered tonight by Margarita's.
Next up Heavy Metal Soundtract, 1981 2 LP
Japan pressing, with Obi slip, and insert.
Featuring, Sammy Hagar, Nazareth, Devo, Stevie Nick's, Journey, Black Sabbath, Cheap Trick, Don Felder, and the masters of disaster Blue Öyster Cult.
The best comp soundtract of the eighties.

K-Gonzo signing off, with one last spin.
Dark psychedelic funk, from Staten Island?!?
The Budos Band, III.
Give these guys a listen, all instrumental grooving. They sound like a lost 70's blacksploitation soundtrack, on LSD.
Simply amazing.
Groovy Messages from the Freeeek Kingdom.

Brant Bjork's Gods and Goddesses

I knew nothing about Brant Bork, so thanks for turning me his way. I love psych rock and sounds so his work fits my profile in a bit of a unique way. Love the vibe.

If anyone wants to listen to a great album, spend some time with Jim Sullivan’s U.F.O. It is one of my absolute favorites. Some people call it cosmic country, but I don’t think that’s perfectly accurate. Like I said, just give it a shot. It’s the one album I always try to promote. He has an interesting story as well. He disappeared in a desert in New Mexico and his never been found. He has only one other studio release. Really great stuff.

This pic is his second album. U.F.O. is at my other house so I don’t have it handy.

Great new psychedelic album.
Giöbia, Plasmatic Idol.
I believe they are a Italian band. Lots of fuzzy guitars, synths, and echoey vocals. They are on the Heavy psych sounds record label.
Check out the Heavy Psych sounds website, lots of great new bands, and lots of color vinyl options.
