I have about 3000 12 Inch singles, Albums, 45's and Remix Sets. I used to be a Billboard music dance reporter because I did live mix shows on the radio. I still have my two technique 1200 and a new mixer. Oh yeah I still make mixtapes... errr digital mixes! LOL

Nice.

The 12" Maxi Singles are often incredibly well mastered and pressed.

Nice! I always went for the 12" singles back when I was buying - having different versions/mixes of the songs was a nice departure from listening to the album,

TONS of space for the Mastering Engineer and the Cutting Engineer, too. That's one of the reasons that they sound so damn good. They didn't have to compromise dynamics for space on the record.

I bought several 12" singles back then for the higher sound quality and extended mix of songs I liked.

I was surprised when the 12" extended mix single of Don't You Want Me by The Human League completely omitted the lead vocals.
(I'm expecting to get razzed for the song, but I liked the techno-synth music style of that song and the story told by the lyrics.)
The 12" single became an extended play karaoke recording. The background alone gets pretty sparse without the lead vocals.

My all time favorite 80s band. But their early 90s albums are amazing. I was so sad to hear of Mark Hollis' passing last year. I was always hoping for a reunion tour.

#5215 66 days ago

Some Ash with amazing Ted Turner guitar.

Totally. I'm a big fan of the 12" singles and I have tons. I even like to get the ones issued to radio stations for the nice, extra-loud compression. None of the hipster vinyl newbs are onto them either, which is great for me. I made a whole 80's mix where I use 12" single cuts as a base layer and starting mixing, blending and layering other 80s vinyl on top.

Quoted from rolandthoms:

I haven’t thrown mine out! There was that period between 1982-1985 when cassettes were my format of choice
I hooked up a tape deck to my sound system last year, but that proved to be a waste of time. I mean, why?

I recently got a really nice walkman (Sony DDIII) for playing tapes in my car and damned if certain tapes don't sound really really good if you have nice equipment. Especially stuff that I taped from records back in the day. Not that I'm seeking out that medium but I still play tapes for convenience. There's some stuff I have that I only have on tape, or was only ever issued on tape, and I have way too much of this type of stuff convert it. I remember when all my DJ friends were converting their entire record collections to "high quality" MP3 and getting rid of the wax. Only to find out later that the quality wasn't nearly as good as the wax. What a waste of time.

Back in 2000, when pinball was almost dead,
I had a subscription to the now defunct fanzine called MultiBall (out of Portland)
covering the pinball and rock and roll scene.
They had a habit of including a 45 record
(usually from some indy label and non signed band)
tucked inside most issues of the fanzine they published
and sent out to those that subscribed.

In issue #19 I think, was an early White Stripes single called Handsprings,
that tells the story of a guy (Jack) that loses his love in a bowling alley
to a another guy playing a game of pinball.

I still got the issue and single stashed away somewhere,
Probably fairly rare release of Jack White discography.

How's it going Walter. Can't wait for things to return to normal, be nice to get together for some pinball again.

Just picked this one up recently after hearing one of their songs on spotify at work. I'm pretty sure spotify is responsible for the majority of my vinyl purchases lately.

Damn dude, now that's a pile of zappa. An old roommate of mine got a ton of zappa vinyl from an estate sale many years ago. She's not really a huge zappa fan, so I've been slowly but surely trading her stuff to try and get it all from her.

Also had to bust this one out, we lost an all time great. RIP Little Richard.

Did it have a general release in the US ?

It is a double album with gatefold sleeve and a book with artwork, lyrics, info and the storyline of the book. It cost me $1.50 from a record fair.

I had a childhood flashback the other day. Peter and the Wolf, orchestral version. I looked for it on Discogs and there are 1,000 versions. I very vaguely remember a "cartoony" cover, but I'm not sure. Can anyone recommend a release to look for?

Was it a Disney release ? They have done a few versions all with different, hand drawn covers.

No idea, it was probably first grade in music class. I don't recall any narration. Like I said, blurry memory. Any version would probably do.

Deutsche Grammophon releases are generally a safe bet for quality of music and sound.

A good old disco record. Belle Epoque one is pressed in Bombay!! distributed by "Ravi Traders"
I wonder how it ended up in the red cross shop up here. Its worn and tired, but a nice find.

Ellington is a 3$ masterpiece. After a bath and some clean clothes it sounds and looks like new.

I really love the later Ellington, anything after '58

I’m super-late joining this thread, but better late than never. My wife and I have about 800 records between us. The funny thing is, I decided vinyl was dead sometime in the mid-80s, and only bought CDs after that. Sure, I’d pick up Blue Note cutouts for $3, and pick up records at yard sales, but I seriously felt it was the end of an era. Very cool to see so many young people discovering their grandparents’ collections. I have lots of ECM and BlueNote records, would love for some kid to pick them up in 20 years and fall in love with the music. I have my CD collection on a wall behind me on our video calls, and I’m sure it amuses the 20-somethings on my team.
