My MET Pro has the Flipper Fidelity upgraded backbox speakers and 10" sub package. They sound pretty good but I have to run the sytem volume very close to max to get the loudness I sometimes require.

This results is a distorted sound. Was wondering if anyone has successfully used an additional amplifer with the backbox speakers to boost the volume with FF speakers?

I assume the amp would need to be able to take line-level inputs from the onboard 18W amps that the SAM soundboard supports.
Beyond that I'm at a loss as to how large an amplifier would be required to improve the volume noticeably?

Would something like this unit be worthwhile? https://www.amazon.ca/Lepai-2x40W-Amplifier-1x68W-Output/dp/B0070Z87YO/ref=pd_cp_0_3

I removed the FF speakers from my Met and went with this setup. Definitely worth it.

I have an amp and upgraded speakers (not FF) in my Tron and Iron Man, works great... I use powerbass amps and speakers (FF used to use PB speakers for the backbox, they work great and are cheap)

Cool. Can you post a link to the amp you used or a model # or something?

How would you describe the improvement of using the amp vs not?

The main issue I am having is to really get it rocking I end up in the mid 50s on the volume which is near max and distortion raises its ugly head.
