Quoted from PhilGreg:

So, what's the best / cheapest way to acquire a Stern NIB for someone in Canada these days with the exchange rate and whatnot... still through Canadian distributors?

If you have US funds, which you will need if you buying outside Canada anyway.
Can pay in US funds at The Playdium.

Quoted from vex:

my experience with stern and the American supplier have been excellent and everything has been looked after. recently i had a problem on my met premium i bought when first released years ago. emailed my dealer trent at tilt amusements and had my part delivered to my door no charge in a about a week. i have heard good things from nitro in mission b.c. but haven't used them yet.

Thankfully (knock on wood) I haven't had any issues with my ST Pro.

Purchased from The Playdium in Toronto. Since the they are a big outfit and the only Stern distributor in Canada, I'm assuming I'll have good service from them if needed.

Anyone else in Canada selling Stern product is buying from The Playdium and drop shipping to customers. Not that there is anything wrong with that... just saying The Playdium are the largest in country.

That is great for someone in the US to help you which you didn't buy from. Very surprising.

What was damaged... And why wouldn't Playdium help?

Would be unfortunate to have any NIB game damaged upon arrival. $900 does seem like a generous offer... Without seeing the damage first hand. And they may have thought since they didn't hear from you in a month, it wasn't that big of a deal to you. Dunno... Just trying to see it from their side.

When looking to purchase my ST... I called Nitro and they seemed content to quote me MAP pricing. Shipping was an additional cost... Drop shipped from Playdium in Toronto to a freight company's warehouse for pickup, which was further away than than the Playdium.

I'm located about 30-40 min from Playdium and had them deliver / setup the machine. I almost broke a sweat watching those guys carry the pin upstairs. Lol

All in all I had a great experience dealing with The Playdium. My next NIB I'll call the usual suspects, but in the end I'm sure I'll be purchasing from The Playdium again.

Quoted from flashinstinct:

Too bad that you all have to go through playdium to get Stern machines. It's a monopoly that needs to get qwashed

Looks like no one else has stepped up with enough volume to meet min orders and enough capital to handle it.

I read on here about distributors asking for full payment, then waiting months and months for a pin. These are small businesses that need your money to make an order. I'm ok with the Playdium and Cineplex theatres financial backing. They can order a truck load of pins without my money and I know that my deposit is secure and they aren't going to disappear.

Nothing is secure.

Of course nothing is 100%

I was referring to my comfort level in dealing with Playdium / Cineplex over an online retailer that is run out of a basement and just drop ships.

Quoted from Aquapin:

I would rather deal with someone smaller who cares and wants my business. I tried dealing with Playdium and it was like talking to a brick wall. Over priced and out of touch.

Hmmm... I had the opposite experience.
As long as you find someone you are happy dealing with... that's the main thing.
Opinions vary.

Quoted from JoshODBrown:

And you know there's some dude out there somewhere, lusting over this $7,000 F-14 as his first potential pinball, thinking in his head... "Man I should do it, my wife will totally kill me. YOLO!"

$7K for an F-14? Are there gold bars hidden inside?
