Short of replacing it, is there any way to fix a stripped gear? There are a couple of stripped teeth in my JD gearbox so that the planet stutters when it reaches that point on the gear, and I can't use the deadworld mod because of this. Any ideas?

Thanks!!

New gears.

Anything you could solder or anything would break off pretty quick.

Sorry.

Where can you buy the new gears?

I have one gear that has half of the teeth missing on a TAF.

I've already replaced the entire gear box, but it'd be nice to be able to fix my broken one to keep around as a back-up.

I don't know about TAF, but my DW motor was built by this place.

The gears aren't sold individually, they want you to buy a new gearbox.

Pinball Resource in NY repairs Multiproducts gearboxes; it's not cheap! http://www.pbresource.com

I was actually surprised this worked but before I ordered a new gearbox for the crane on my LAH I did a temp. fix on the gear with stripped teeth. I disassembled gearbox, found the bad gear and it had a flatspot where teeth were missing. Using vice grips, I stretched the low area (soft brass) out close to where it used to be. I could still see where the valleys of the teeth used to be, giving me an indication of where they should be. Using a razor knife to start and then a hacksaw, I was able to make new teeth. It was not perfect but it worked, which it had not before, and lasted for about 4 weeks until I ordered and received the new gearbox(Marco Spec.).

The gear is spinning on the shaft, Dawson(a pinside member) had a guy pin his to another gear and he said it works great.

I'ts likely those are off the shelf gears. Figure out the specs you need and look online. Might take some work but I would think you could find a suitable replacement.

never delt with your proublem exactly, and dont know your budget or time your willing to spend- but i think if you had a flat spot you could tap into it thread in suitable peice of screw of proper substrait, and grind the protruding head into the tooth you need. or do a build up and shape that.

Actually I just fixed that problem! With that same fix. Drilled two holes and put tension pins through, then grinded them down with a dremel so that they fit. Forgot to take a final pic of that though...then de-greased, re-greased, slapped it back in there, and it spins smoothly but skips when it gets to the stripped teeth. It was pretty grimy in there, I may end up doing the same thing with the crane gearbox before that one has issues.

I have made temporary repairs using aluminum finishing nails and shaving them down.
Assuming its a plastic gear you can drill a hole small enough to slide the nail in place.'
Cut to fit and shave it down. Once its good in your eyes epoxy them in place.
Worked on my FH but I was very thankful to find a gear in AU when everyone here was sold out.

Also search in printer parts on the internet. Seems they use the same type gear set up.
Never found one for FH but now everyone has them in stock.
