Check my avatar......! My Voltan is a loving restoration, but I decided not to redo the cabinet. I'm fine with the faded cabinet paint, at least for now.
I bought the machine in 2012 after looking for one for years. Like some of the others posting, Dave Christensen is my favorite pinball artist, and I had as a goal to try and obtain all of his games. Voltan is his masterpiece. The humor and weirdness of the art makes me laugh everytime I play the game.
Mine came with a very decent backglass-- a few minor scratches-- and a blown-out play field. Prior to finding my game I had obtained a spare playfield off eBay, and sent that out to the incomparable HSA for restoration. They did an amazing job, as always. I did a playfield swap in 2016, and the game is bolted to the floor at this point.
The game gets knocked in some circles as a poor player, but I find it challenging, and it has been a popular game in our league and tournaments.
Also, curious to see how many have bought the CPR plastics for this game? I ended up getting two sets-- the first with art muddier than I would accept. CPR sent me a second set-- quite a bit better, but definitely quite a few steps below the originals in color, detail, and crispness of line.
See some pics below of my game-- a few before and a few after restoration.
