I am in the same boat. To be fair, though, it appeared in early July that the pins were about to be produced. I don't think anyone anticipated that it would take so long for them to get on Stern's line.

Quoted from Pintucky:I agree. The message seemed to give you no choice, but to pay up NOW! There was an implied message that if you didn't, you could be cut from the list and make room for someone else . . . maybe lose out completely.
Mike in Kentucky
Infering, and implying are one thing, but I actually called Jack and asked. He specifically said that I didn't need to pay now, but the sooner I paid, the higher on the list I would be when my trim color was produced. People around here just love to look for things to complain about. If you ever have to imply anything, just call and ask. Better to be 100% sure, then make guesses and air this kind of stuff on the forums.

With the email stating: "MMR games will begin to be manufactured later this month" and "Pay your open balance of $6995.00 as you did for the deposit" it never occurred to me that I had to call him to find out if payment was really necessary.
Seems like different distributors have different approaches to payments. My distributor had two choices, pay in full by end of July and get free shipping or pay in full 2 weeks before delivery in which case you'd have to pay for the delivery as well. It was well communicated and gave a choice and incentive for early pay out.
Wish I was offered free shipping. My distributor said they were not allowed to offer that or any discount on the pin.
Quoted from foxtj24:Wish I was offered free shipping. My distributor said they were not allowed to offer that or any discount on the pin.
Me too. At least that would help cover lost interest revenue for 4 months.
Quoted from frasethatpayz:Me too. At least that would help cover lost interest revenue for 4 months.
How much would interest be right now for 4 months -25 cents?
Quoted from pezpunk:assuming a 5% annual return, 4 months of interest on $7000 is roughly $100.
Where you getting 5% interest right now ?
Quoted from WeirPinball:Nice try - no way that is 5% annualized.
Depends on when you bought them.
Quoted from WeirPinball:Where you getting 5% interest right now ?
I was just pulling an optimistic but reasonable number out of thin air. i would expect most people didn't see a 5% return on their investments (let alone savings) over the last 4 months. furthermore I don't think a hundred bucks is a big deal, anyway.
Quoted from jrivelli:Guys, calm down these are shipping Quarter 2 of 2014. No worries!
I don't mind waiting a little longer for them to get it right. I understand there are a lot of moving parts involved in getting this done. But why not wait to collect money until you have it set in stone that you're going to production? It's these simple little things that are leaving me concerned, and why I'll be thinking twice when they come around trying to sell me the next pre-order.
Quoted from jkdblaze:It's these simple little things that are leaving me concerned, and why I'll be thinking twice when they come around trying to sell me the next pre-order.
One difference. They won't have the delay when they decided to have Stern assemble them. That will save a lot of time setting up to build and then moving everything.
And the transformer delay to get UL approval.
Next time around should be more accurate plans for building and shipping.
LTG : )™
Quoted from WeirPinball:Nice try - no way that is 5% annualized.
You're right! It is down to 4%. But that is as low as it goes on older bonds.
It's not about a paltry interest sum... it's about the people who sold a game to pay off MMR and now have an empty spot instead of something to play for the next 3-4 months... Or those who chose to buy MMR over something available right then, and still have the same empty slot in the lineup
Quoted from WeirPinball:How much would interest be right now for 4 months -25 cents?
The point is it's my money, not some else's. I can use those monies in other ways than just interest. I have the opportunity to buy and sell retail items and my ROI is much more than 5 percent.

I completely agree, that's why I'm not on the list for this game or any JJP games or any boutique games. I will wait until they come out - if I have to pay a bit more at that time, so be it.
Quoted from foxtj24:Wish I was offered free shipping. My distributor said they were not allowed to offer that or any discount on the pin.
It seems there should be a law against that.
Quoted from pezpunk:assuming a 5% annual return, 4 months of interest on $7000 is roughly $100.
in what world are you getting 5% interest? investment returns, sure, not interest.
Quoted from lapean111:People around here just love to look for things to complain about
First off, smartass . . . I wasn't 'complaining'. Good God! Can't we just talk on here without one of you 'judges' cranking up heat?!
Quoted from jkdblaze:With the email stating: "MMR games will begin to be manufactured later this month" and "Pay your open balance of $6995.00 as you did for the deposit" it never occurred to me that I had to call him to find out if payment was really necessary.
EXACTLY! I know Jack. I have called him before. The wording of the message told me enough. I think Jack may have jumped the gun a little, thinking the pins would be popping out anytime.
Quoted from Kkuoppamaki:Seems like different distributors have different approaches to payments. My distributor had two choices, pay in full by end of July and get free shipping
Man! I wish I would have had those options! I would have happily paid in full by July to get free shipping. Good distributor. May we ask who it was? Might want to use this person next time.
Quoted from calvin12:in what world are you getting 5% interest? investment returns, sure, not interest.
i was using interest generically but no, you aren't gonna get 5% return guaranteed on anything right now. i figured if i named a smaller rate people would brag that they were doing better than that. no matter what it's not a lot of money.
Quoted from Pinchroma:No one here knows more about powder than me.
(Sorry, it just sounded funny when I saw it posted out of context.)
Quoted from jalpert:I believe he said earlier it was Twisted Pins offering the free shipping.
This is just an opinion, but with all the bad stuff I read about that business on this site that's the last place I would pay anything to without getting the product right away.
Quoted from frasethatpayz:Still curious I was asked to pay in full over a month ago, which I did, and now the game is delayed at least til October. I could have kept that money invested and made a few more dollars for myself and not financed someone else's project.
The original agreement was payment in full was due 1 to 2 weeks before game was shipped, not 2 to 3 months. Will be happy to get the game, not happy with the extended wait.
true story.
Quoted from pezpunk:assuming a 5% annual return, 4 months of interest on $7000 is roughly $100.
Now that is about ignorant to assume 5% interest rate. It took me 2 seconds to look up cd interest rates. For $7,000 on a one year CD you get <1%. Series EE savings bonds are .5%. I'm glad you can do math, now just insert the right numbers.
Wow...

If you can afford a 7/8k game (i cant) you should stop being a cry baby because you don't have your 7/8k in your pocket for a few weeks.
Quoted from hardware:I would be upset as well. Did you ask your distributor? I'm directly through PPS and they haven't asked for anything above the initial deposit.
The only change through PPS I remember is that initially the remaining balance to be due 1-2 weeks before pin is delivered. That was changed to 2-3 weeks AFAIK. I'm going to have a tough time paying that remaining balance if I'm not guaranteed that my pin is in a box ready to ship.
I find it strange that some of you in the USA went through a distributor and not direct to PPS!
Here in the UK we had no choice, surely if PPS were saying $1k deposit and the rest when the games ready, its a no-brainer to go with PPS, or have I missed something?
Quoted from jrawlinson_2000:its a no-brainer to go with PPS, or have I missed something?
Yes, some distributors offer free shipping if you go with them. That can save you 400 bucks depending where you live.
Quoted from jrawlinson_2000:I find it strange that some of you in the USA went through a distributor and not direct to PPS!
Because I can drive 30 minutes from work to pick it up in person, save shipping cost and get a JJP factory tour!
I was lucky enough to get in late with Flip N Out Pinball for there last LE. Put a down payment and will pay the balance before delivery. Larry is a great guy to deal with. I highly recommend people give him a chance on NIB machines. I'm lucky that I'm close enough for him to deliver and help with setup.
Quoted from S37VEN:Because I can drive 30 minutes from work to pick it up in person, save shipping cost and get a JJP factory tour!
And pay sales tax!?!?!?!?!
Quoted from lapean111:And pay sales tax!?!?!?!?!
NJ Urban Enterprise Zone sales tax of 3.5% is still less than shipping.
Right now it was only one distributor and not some. Also, there was a catch, shipping wasn't just free, but free if you paid in full a lot earlier.
Quoted from jimjim66:Yes, some distributors offer free shipping if you go with them.
Quoted from jalpert:Rick,
Any update at all on the Roger Sharpe video? Do you think we'll have it this week? Thanks.
Just saw the draft yesterday, they wanted our logo to insert in it, and any feedback. So, it exists and as soon as they get done with any final stuff it will be out.. Good to see Roger around pinball ...

Quoted from urbanledge:If you can afford a 7/8k game (i cant) you should stop being a cry baby because you don't have your 7/8k in your pocket for a few weeks.
Part of the reason some people (not me though) can afford the game is because they know how to make money with their money.
Quoted from jrawlinson_2000:I find it strange that some of you in the USA went through a distributor and not direct to PPS!

I agree with you, but guessing people were more concerned with getting a reserve slot more than the details.
Also I'm sure Rick had allotted a certain amount for distributors so PPS couldn't sell them all when you think of this.

man people are being thick. i wasn't assuming someone was going to put $7000 in a CD instead of MMR - that would not make any sense. i thought it was pretty obvious that for most people whining about the return they could have made on 7 grand of capital, it would come out of an existing investment, and obviously not a CD since you can't just yank money out of those, nor are you going to get 5% guaranteed out of one either, duh.
the point was the return would be paltry.
Quoted from S37VEN:What is the Roger Sharpe video? Playing, discussing, both? Something else?
Porn. Very hush, hush.
Quoted from lordloss:Didn't roger leave williams? I don't see the big deal about him playing the pin.
If you had seen the video you would.
Roger love you long time...
Quoted from joemamma:Series EE savings bonds are .5%.
Like I said, it all depends on when you bought them. May have been one of the better investments we made in the early 90s. 30 years goes by real fast!
