Been addicted to this genre since I found it 4 years ago. Always trying to find new artists to listen to. If anyone has any suggested artists to listen to I’d love to hear about them.

Currently I’m listening to a lot of SURVIVE, Duett, Com Truise, Trevor Something and Dan Mason-

    Miami Nights 1984

My only exposure is through the Simpsons videos. I kinda find them to be a beautiful mash up.

That and Perturbator are the ones I primarily listen to in this genre.

Works particularly well as background music while playing Black Knight

    #9 4 years ago

Power Glove is pretty good. Lots of good tracks and his/their Blood Dragon soundtrack is excellent.

    #10 4 years ago

    Pylot
    Makeup and Vanity Set
    Tommy ‘86
    Modern Knight
    Francci

Big fan of this genre! Lots of greats already listed, but wanted to put a few of my own favs in the hat!

    #11 4 years ago

Thanks for the lists! Time to go exploring and listening.

Why isn’t there a Lazerhawk pin?

    #12 4 years ago

I am a fan! Lazerhawk is actually a pinball guy!

Saw the midnight live earlier this year. Excellent show. Also big fan of timecop1983 and night runner.

    #14 4 years ago

Great suggestions! I’ll have to check some of these guys out.

    Scott, are you Pylot?

    Scott, are you Pylot?

Nope, I produce under my own name, but I am not really like synthwave or vaporwave.

    #17 4 years ago

    Would not have surprised me...

Looking forward to enjoying your work on the second Spooky/Danesi game in my collection!

    #18 4 years ago

I know he is a pinball guy.

I always thought it would make for a good title non ip.

    #19 4 years ago

Wow! Thanks for all the suggestions! Some I have heard, many I haven’t! I will have some homework tonight. Here are some suggestions of my own:

    Mitch Murder
    Scandroid
    Macintosh Plus
    Corp.
    Blank Banshee
    Disconcious
    Eco Virtual
    SurfinG
    Atom Force
    Tonebox
    Gyan Rosling
    Tesla Boy
    Hello Meteor
    C:\DOSBOMB
    DREDD
    BVSMV
    Hotel Pools
    DreamStation1986

I meant to mention tonebox earlier today but forgot. It's not really synthwave but his new track called Run is probably my favorite right now. So good.

Just listened and you are right, great track!

    Big, big time fan of Color Theory;
    http://colortheory.com/
Started off more piano+synth-based, but has been blending more and more new wave sensibilities over the years.

Also been watching a ton of YouTube videos by an artist called Astral Throb.
    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpbH_7H71IPKq4eH7CD5spg
Mostly instrumental, very prolific, puts out a new 30+ minute "suite" every couple of weeks

    +1 on Scandroid and Gunship

    Later,

I have all of FM Attack's albums. I also have Miami Nights 1984's first album.

I listen to all kinds of music which is why I don't have more of this stuff.

    Marvel83'
    Flash Arnold
    Dynatron
    Irving Force
    Jeremiah Kane
    Isidor

    Among others already listed.
I recommend Genesis album by Marvel83' and The Pump album by Flash Arnold.

    #26 1 year ago

Been listening to marvel83’ a lot lately. Arcade Dreams is a good album!

Also not really Synthwave but kinda sort of in the same vein, “the Black Queen” with Greg Puciato on vocals is a bad ass band.

    #27 1 year ago

Missed this thread first time around. Synthwave and pinball is a killer combo! I need a Tron though.

    #28 1 year ago

I definitely moved to vaporwave from sythwave over the last year or two. Luxury Elite - World Class is a good vaporwave album. The Mallsoft subgenre is now my current jam.

    #29 1 year ago

Makes me happy to see a Vaporwave thread on Pinside. Been listening for a few years.

I really enjoy this existential take on Vaporwave.

Anyone have any listening suggestions for Darkwave/Cyberpunk artists aside from Carpenter Brut or Perturbator?

I can't believe I'm only finding this thread now! My list could probably go on forever, but here's a couple of my favorite albums off the top of my head:

FM Skyline - Advanced Memory Suite https://fmskyline.bandcamp.com/album/advanced-memory-suite

    Glaciære - Pool Water Blue
    https://steviasphere.bandcamp.com/album/pool-water-blue

Lindsheaven Virtual Plaza - NTSC Memories
    https://lindsheavenvirtualplaza.bandcamp.com/album/ntsc-memories

    Saint Pepsi - Hit Vibes

    Building a Better World - 猫 シ Corp. & t e l e p a t h テレパシー能力者
    https://catsystemcorp.bandcamp.com/album/building-a-better-world

    Macross82-99 - A Million Miles Away
    https://macross82-99.bandcamp.com/album/a-million-miles-away

Like I said, that's only scratching the surface! There's so many flavors and subgenres to explore, I'm always coming across stuff I like.

Plus there's tons of excellent vaporwave mixes that are very well curated, imo. The YouTube channel Vapor Memory has a series of 6 mixes that are like 1-2 hours each which are a great way to discover new albums and artists, but also stand up just fine by themselves. (If you like those, check out their other channel Vapor Memory 2 where they have like 6 more of those mixes!!!)

Happy hunting, and def keep posting any interesting stuff you come across!! Glad to see I'm in good company here!

Today in the way to work I was listening to Carpenter Brut featuring Greg Puciato “Imaginary Fire” on repeat a few times.

Another thing a dig about this genre of music is album cover art. So many cool covers out there.

Can you imagine if the future ended up as what the 80s dystopian futures looked like? Would’ve been sweet!

I'm kind of a closeted Synthwave and Vaporwave fan. I don't actively seek it out, but I also don't skip it, or move past it somehow when it shows up. I'm really surprised at how many artists do it so well these days. I'm also fairly surprised at how many of these artists' names I recognize that have been posted here so far. Something I really like is stumbling upon other artists in media where I wasn't looking for it. Like the game PinOut. It has a fantastic soundtrack by Douglas Holmquist, who's apparently done a number of games with synthwave, or "synthwave-adjacent" soundtracks. A lot of the videos for these songs on youtube have cool visuals that fit the genre, but to be able to play a pinball type game while listening to that music is even better.

The 8-bit Guy on Youtube also ends most of his videos with music from a guy named Anders Enger Jensen. Some of his stuff fits genre-wise, but he also ventures outside of it as well.

Any love for Starcadian? His album "Midnight Signals" is really good. Recently had a vinyl release as well.

    #41 1 year ago

I released an Electro house album a few years ago that was very heavily 80's inspired under the alias, Takuro Spirit.

Pretend - Feat LIONFACE (Kat Marsh)

Let You Go - Feat. Kate Brady

For full-on Synthwave, Oscillian remixed one of my tracks:

Enough tooting my own horn. As far as my favorite Synthwave band - Le Matos. Can't get enough of them.

    #42 1 year ago

Someone should make us a spotify playlist.. I'm far too lazy and also don't know very many artists

These were some of my favorites when I was really heavy into this sound.

I saw Carpenter Brut years ago opening for Ministry. He has a lot of great songs. There are 2 other excellent Jackie Chan montages but this one is my favorite.

One of the last CDs I kept from my record store years. Com Truise sounds like how Videodrome looks.

An early favorite. Megadrive just takes me back to the arcades.

Two great videos. Pertubator is even better with vocals like this.

I dont know if this is the best Lazerhawk but it's good and it's a classic.
