I sent him a picture of Rat Fink last night and I asked him if he remembered these models. He said yes and I remember shooting them with our sling shots.

Very carefully...I have a really nice 1.5" diameter super soft brush I picked up at a show years ago. It does a great job pulling dust off intricate surfaces without damaging any of the details. On the trees, we discovered a diluted glycerin based material at the craft store that is meant for restoring fake plants back to new again. I am not exactly sure how it works, but it made years and years of dust disappear, and did not seem to accelerate new dust sticking to the scenery again.

Never heard of the glycerin spray before... I might have to try that sometime.
To your regimen I'll add compressed canned "air duster". For all the many places brushes can't reach... especially for models if not scenery. Use caution as it takes come careful modulation: you don't want to go full blast against fragile details. But typically, short 1/3 squeeze trigger bursts at close range can really make something look "new" (or old without dust) again. For scenery and other tricky to reach areas, a gentle burst can blow loose dust and debris to where your brush or minivac attachments will take over.

You got me to thinking about compressed air. I think if I were doing some dusting with air I would get a small compressor and an airbrush. You can adjust the pressure of the air at the compressor, and you can adjust how much air velocity by manipulating the trigger. But the can is more portable.

I'd like to know if this acrylic paint I found online at Michaels arts and crafts is okay for model painting? I saw paint kits online,but they come with a bunch of colors I'll never use.
I'll probably only need six colors to paint my Ed Roth Rat Fink models,and I like that I can just order the colors I like from Michaels.

It should be fine. Acrylic won't hurt plastic. You could try it on scrap plastic or on something you won't see on the finished model to see what it does and if you like the finish.

Yep, I use them all the time through my airbrush when weathering my trains or buildings. One of the key things I do first to the plastic is take away any looks of that fake shinny plastic look by using Testors Dullcoat spray. Dullcoat is a lacquer spray but it will dry flat in 20 minutes, do that in thin coats so there is no running, after that you can apply any of those acrylic paints and if in the event you don't like the look a wet paper towel will take it right off and start again.

There is a great documentary on The Doolittle Raid, also known as the Tokyo Raid with the B-25. I'll see if I can get the exact title but it really was a great watch and fascinating what these pilots and crew had to do and did.

Wow I had completely forgotten that I even started this thread and just came across it at random. Glad to see people are still building especially in these current times. I've gotten 6 new people into building in the past 2 months and it feels great!! The hobby amongst many other is in much need of a boost/resurrection. I'm still at the bench building and have finished many builds since page 1.

I love the idea that you can make stuff, then when you need stuff to make stuff (like a jig), you make that too. Just fascinating. Wish I could do it.

If anybody builds large R/C boats.... I just came into a 1/48 hull/superstructure from Loyalhanna Dockyard for a USS Evarts class DE.
No reasonable offer refused..... shipping will be a bear, it's 6' long.
