Wow, you are right. Thanks for posting the pics e-squirrel! I am just in love with a shop like that. I have absolutely zero idea of how to use such things, but I would like to learn. I just read about it and watch occasional Youtube videos. I'm thinking about getting some of the mini versions some day.

That lloks like the real thing.

Quoted from Viggin900:

Thats heaven. I'm afraid to ask, what did they go for a piece?

Most of the stuff was right around half the going ebay rate. $10-20 a model give or take.

That's good stuff. I am always amazed at these people that not only build awesome models, but then go to the trouble to make these stop motion videos of the whole process. I can't even imagine how much work that is.

Here is one I ran across recently, this guy's channel has a bunch of cool ones.

Awesome!!! Watching that really relaxed me. Now if I was actually building that I would probably be stressed to the max that I didn’t F it up

Need to save this 61 cadillac. The roof from a 61 pontiac will need to do?

I'm looking for something to do to kill some time. I haven't put a model together since I was a kid. So I'm pretty much a beginner.

I'd like to know if this model of the Titanic is too hard for a beginner.
Thanks in advance

Thanks, any suggestions as far as what glue would be best?

You can search that specific kit on YouTube, there is at least one build video. Lots of good info in those videos.

No idea. Last model I built was an aircraft carrier. A few feet long. Filled it with gun powder and floated it across a lake. Hit it with a bottle rocket. BOOM ! I didn't think glue mattered, knowing it's fate.

Its not too difficult but the higher end version of the Titanic which means more detailed pieces to put together. I put together the smaller version in collage and still have it in my office. Dont use testors tube glue. Use Jet adhesive or Extreme Power medium thickness from hobby lobby when they open.

I use Revell Contacta Professional glue as i find the applicator small metal tube it has is easier to control the amount of glue to a piece.

Oh MAN, reading this really took me back to my teens
My brothers and i would build model plane kits, attach them to the Hills Hoist (rotating clothes line) and either set them on fire, try shooting them with a slug gun or in a lot of cases BOTH at the same time

I did see that glue being used in one of the YouTube videos I watched. I knew I'd like using that glue because it has the same applicator that I use for fly tying.
Thanks

For really fine seam lines, my go-to for years has been Tamiya Extra-Thin cement. It's water thin, so it works into even the finest seams, and doesn't have the bulk of any of the Testors/Revell cements. The flip side is the part fit needs to be very good for it to work, it doesn't like gaps.

Not sure if this qualifies but I just ordered this kit
Saturn V, the most powerful machine ever built by man - 5 Rocketdyne F1 engines that produced 7.5 million pounds of thrust
I personally own a stainless steel fuel filter from one of the fuel pumps that fed the kero and liquid oxygen fuel mix
The fuel pumps alone were 57,000 horsepower each!

Cant wait to build it!

I just got one a month ago. Very cool.

Yeah, I'm doing scale models too! Here's my WiP of a Soviet Naval Infantry platoon, in 1/72 scale.

I just watched three guys build this model on YouTube. The final results are pretty impressive! I had no idea, that Lego models were this amazing.

This is a remarkable video..
Just awesome. The care in painting the model, but then - as you said - the stop motion video!

Is it me though or did he completely neglect to paint the entire glass cockpit section?

I've always been into scale things throughout my life... Trains, models, you name it. I just like to build things. I need to find some photos of some of the HO craftsman buildings I've done. But for now, here is an RC tug I built a couple years ago. 39" long.
Also, a mahogany Chris Craft.

Forgot about this one... I scratch built this HO scale welded rail train based off the prototype that was parked in my town for a while about 10 years ago.

Zorloza Creations... Giovanni Zorloza is the sculptor. He sells them already painted as well

Me too,I'd love to have all of the Ed Roth models that I killed, displayed on my shelves.

Super nice, I subscribed to your Youtube channel. Lots of cool train videos there, also, I love those RC jets. Do you have one of those also? I would very much like to see photos of your HO buildings, I am planning an HO layout now and need ideas.

Amazon has a bunch of Rat Fink models, looks like some of them were reissued. I don't know how the quality is on those, but the reviewers seem to like them. I think I'll pick up some of those to make, looks like fun. The original retro ones go for $100-200 each.

I will have to see what I can dig up for HO building photos...I think I have them on a portable hard drive somewhere. As for the jets...we use to have a model jet show once a year near where I live, but that has since folded. I never owned one...as it was a bit too much of a rich mans hobby for me. From what I understand, the motors in some of them were about the same price as a Stern Pro, and one wrong move and it becomes a lawn dart! The folks who fly them have some incredible skill.

Whodathunk that Rat Fink would be around 50 years later ?

Your bridge is nice, but I think you have one of the best tree/forest builds on any layout I have seen.

These are not mine, but something tells me a lot of you here will get off on this German airport. There are a lot of other videos about this German in Hamburg shop: Trains, airplanes, cities. There are some how-they-did-its, too.

#146 3 years ago

I went to Miniature Wonderland a few years ago. It was just unbelievably amazing. I should have taken more pictures, but they have tons of stuff on the internet. Here are 2 I took, one is of the front end of the airport where the taxis are going in, and the other is the control station for all the trains. Nerd heaven right there.

So in the "may have bit off more than I can chew" department, I am the proud custodian of these:

These are 1/18 scale... automobiles. Kits made 40+ years ago by Pocher (Rivarossi) in Italy... *thousands* of parts including metal, leather, and rubber. Working suspension, sprung upholstered interior, operating doors and windows... turning engine... the spoked wheels have to be individually assembled spoke-by-spoke.

The boxes are GIGANTIC and weigh almost 20lbs ea!

20200207_211944 (resized).jpg20200207_211944 (resized).jpg

20200207_212130 (resized).jpg20200207_212130 (resized).jpg

I honestly do intend to build one and am quite confident I can do it. Trouble is... pinball, and model trains (writing for mags), leave me no time or space to do more than one. But I can't decide which...

...If anyone is interested I'm willing to sell one or the other. But they're not cheap (pushing 4 figures each) and you should understand what you're getting into. And I really don't want to ship them, unfortunately. But anyway, not meaning to spam here, PM me if interested, otherwise I thought folks would get a kick out of these. I can't wait to see one completed. In a... few years, oops...

Thank you! This was taken at a club I once belonged to...you can check them out at www.slmrc.com
The guys who installed those forests 30-some years ago did some amazing work... And that work has need very hard to replicate on some of the newer sections of the layout.
