Edit. Picked up and brought to New Orleans already. Nice Bally playboy machine.

Does anyone local have the ability to help a non-pinball person to properly wrap a pinball machine for transport in a minivan/suv later this week?

It is an early solid state pin that should have the BG removed and transported separate from the head. The head should be folded down with card board or a blanket between it and the cabinet and ideally a few rounds of stretch wrap to keep it from shifting too much during its day long ride to New Orleans.

Any help would be appreciated and we could pay a reasonable fee for your time.

The backglass should never be removed from the head for transport. That's the safest place for it. Just put cardboard between the had and body and strap it together so it can't bounce. And also make sure the lightbox door latch is snugged up so it can't pop open and damage the back side of the glass. At least that's my opinion and experience.
ETA: and maybe put a piece of thin cardboard behind the backglass so rubbing wires/displays don't scrape any paint off the back of the glass.
