No value to this board? I thought these were rare. Thanks.

I don't collect Alva, so I'm not certain on this one. That said, if it was mine, I don't think I'd sell it. Keep riding that bad boy!

A couple of my favorite spots.

The bowl is in Waxhaw, NC and the park is in Lancaster, SC. Both are private, but the owner usually opens them to everyone on the weekends.

Used to skate back in the late 80’s and only did it for like 3-4 years before I put all of money into paintball. Still got my 2 boards, a Christian Hosoi hammerhead with Hosoi Rockets and a Mark Gonzalez Pro with some Bullets. My 14 year old daughter recently started skating on a cheap board, and last week I have her my 2 boards. She’s been enjoying the Hosoi Hammerhead the most.

Bringing back some memories now, I had a Jeff Kendall and Powell Peralta ripper.

I used to skate in the mid 70’s early 80’s. I only ride on the street these days. I just finished this set up for my son. I’m waiting to hear back from him on it. I ended with some extra green Krypto’s if anyone is interested.
$75 shipped in the U.S
Cheers!

The world is so dead to me right now that I paved my property and have been slowley turning it into a skatepark.

I started skating when I was 14 years old. Last time I picked up a board was at a park with my son. I was 28 then, I will be 37 next month...

My skills have turned a little rusty. I'm having a hard time catching kickflips on the regular like I used to, but I'll get them back with a little more practice.

Nailed a couple 50-50 grinds on the small ledge yesterday to the applause of my sons; they are still learning to olley. I hope my old fat ass has inspired them. I also landed a backside crooked grind on the same ledge, that felt good. Still got the backside nose slide, Ianded one on the taller box to my amazement.

Been ordering and assembling these boxes from OC Ramps. Built the kicker yesterday, still needs ramp paint. A quarter pipe and a hip are next on the list.

Wish me luck.

Haven't skated since '03. I'm 50 lbs heavier than I was back then.

Picked up a new board over the weekend. First session back tonight. Ollie came back after about ten minutes. Flip tricks are not coming back as fast. Almost killed myself on a shove it. Haha

Still can't believe I haven't skated in 17 years. Man it feels good.

Had to visit the old skate park. This place is almost unrideable.

Dropped in on the mini ramp. Got a 50/50 stall. But was unable to rock and roll back in. All that time skating in high school really sticks with you. I lived on these mini ramps back then. Feels like second nature..

Anyone embraced the future and pick up an e-board? I still love my old school cruisers and long boards but these e-boards look like a lot of fun.

Saw a guy cruising on a one wheel a few days ago. He was just lolly gagging down a walking path. Looked super chill.

#217 3 years ago

I never skated as a kid. Decided to buy a board....on my 40th birthday. I rode it until...well, I still have the scars on my arms. It's hard to try and capture that sense of balance at this stage....alas....

Buddy has a one wheel and its fun as shit...super weird though

Picked up a One Wheel Pint(half the price of XR) for my son to ride with me. He absolutely loves it and really is shredding it up! We try and go on a ride during sunset together almost every night. Good Times-'Skate or Die!'

Got to visit a friends place in the Kootenays this summer that has a bowl in his yard!! He’s even building a Saloon with a one lane bowling ally out the back ( you can see it being built in the back of the first foto I posted ) he bought the lane off the old bowling alley in Nelson that closed. Said he’s gunna have a Big Lebowski theme in there!! Showed him the pinball machine and sounds like he’s saving up for one

Had a good session today and caught some on my security cameras.

Forgot how challenging it is to ollie up and fifty-fifty grind a 9" ledge. Did my first one today in about 15 years. Excited to work on this more.

Also landed a Five-O on my small funbox, its about 6". Image is kind of shitty.

WolfManCat Have you fell yet? I built a box a few years ago, 12" x 8' x 2'. Skated it every day, started to get the chops up again, and then I ollied too high doing a 50/50, and landed on the top which was waxed for board slides. slipped out.. ate shit. Gave it away. lol. At 34 I may be a little old to skate street. I was like 90-100lb in my prime, and now I'm sitting around 190lb.. so.. not as graceful as I once was haha. Anyways, I'm probably gunna build a mini-ramp soon. Was never in to vert when I skated in the past, but I surf a lot, and it's kind of a similar vibe.

Yeah, slams and skateboarding seem to go hand in hand. A painful reality that must be accepted. I even banged up my elbows enough that I recently caved in and started wearing pads there. I'm trying to not let my age or weight phsyc me out. I've been watching Epicly Later'd and a bunch of skate documentaries for inspiration. Nothing more inspiring than watching an overweight 40 y/o Bam Margera learning to skate again.

My worse slam so far was during a bs nose slide on the 6" box, board slipped out from underneath me and I caught all my weight on my left forearm, slamming it on the boxes upper ledge edge. I thought about taking a few pics and posting the gnarly bruise, but decided against it. The pain is kind of invigorating and a good reminder that your still alive. I'm not sure of my weight but if I had to guess I am probably at 225lbs and trying desperately to lose more everyday in order to skate better and just live lighter.

Really bummed out at the moment because I am nursing an old man injury. Last week I went outside and I was just popping some ollies to warm up when I felt a pinch in my lower back. Still skated on it like a moron and today I am just now feeling somewhat normal.

Funny you mention building a mini ramp but not being into vert. I'm recieving a kit to buid a 2.5 tall, 8ft wide x 16ft long mini ramp. Going to build it in the barn. I as well was never much a vert skater, so this should be interesting.

Super random.. I was looking at the FREE craigslist postings just now and it looks like the dude I gave the box to last year posted it for free! HOW FRIGGEN RANDON IS THAT?! sandiego.craigslist.org link

It's a sign to take on the board again!

The weight is my issue as well. Rolling at 215 lbs. Been skating at least twice a week for the last 4 weeks. Came to the conclusion that if I want to keep going, it's time to diet and do more cardio.

The falls are not as graceful, so I'm constantly reminding myself not to reach out to catch myself. But WolfManCat you are absolutely correct about feeling alive after a slam. Tried to Ollie the corner of a hip at an indoor skate park recently and slammed to flat and slid into a wall. Surprisingly invigorating!

Sadly, I have only skated a couple of times in the past year. My friend's ramp that I used ride regularly is gone. It had to be relocated as he was selling his house. This is a run from one of the last sessions there.

How did he keep it so nice after rains and stuff? Looks like normal masonite. Is wide is that? 32'?

Yo dawgs! Skating 25 years and collecting pinball for 12. Now a proud radical! owner like a lot of y’all... Stoked to be here! Clytor might recognize some Richmond spots in this video from a few years back.

I’ve been riding for 30+ years, started shredding a half pipe when I was 7, I’ve busted more times that could even think, I needed to chill a little on the aggression and stop crashing from going big...

I bought a penny board a few years ago, if I’m not riding on that thing, life just feels weird, can’t wait to get back on 4 wheels.

My wife and I agreed to building a pump track in my front yard, I dont think city hall would go for it.

This is one of my vintage riders from the mid 80’s I think. I dug it out of storage about a year ago and hung it up in the game room, One of the only survivors that didn’t break in half like many of the others...

Sick video. Thanks for sharing. Love seeing you take on those hand rails, something my nuts and I never attempted to conquer. Very nice.

Soooo disappointed. Saw the thread title and thought Oh Great, skaters. Like lace up the boots, 4 wheels on each, roller rink skating. Oh well, pretty cool posts about SKATE BOARDING, but still a let down. LOL Btw, 64 years old, met my wife roller skating, played hockey and speed skated, and my wife and I have still have our skates and have skated in the last few years and hope to again once covid is over.

The top layer is a plastic composite called skatelite. It's pricey stuff but lasts a long time. Yeah, masonite outdoors doesn't last at all. I can't remember exactly how wide, it might be a touch narrower than 32.

Here's a video I made of the inauguration of my miniramp two summers ago:

See if you recognize the song.

The surface is masonite and I would religiously put the tarp on when it rains. Tarps aren't completely waterproof but I'd put a beam across, tent style, so that the water doesn't pool up.
The masonite lasted 1.5 summers but next spring I'll redo the bottom probably with 1/4" plywood. The transitions are still in decent shape because the water doesn't accumulate there.

I was riding it one night thinking "this is so much fun, that's all I'd ever do" when my neighbour came to tell me the noise was driving he and his wife nuts so I had to cut down my riding time - I also can't ride it in the winter, obviously. I don't have a garage nor room to build one large enough to put a miniramp in so I've been trying to figure out how I can ride more...
Was thinking of renting a space to build one in and have it be some private club to spread the cost, but then the logistics of it seem like a little bit too much trouble.

We do have bigger pools and ramps around town, but I'm a bit of a chicken little so I like working out tricks in the miniramp at home before trying them on the bigger stuff (if I ever do).

Don't think to take pics when we skate. But pic of my roller speed team from 1973, and no won't tell which one is me, but in the back row. And pic from 2011 with my wife at the same child hood roller rink, the night it was closing. Wearing our teenage "rink" jackets.

The summer after high school graduation, me and two friends loaded up a mini van and headed to The Turf skatepark in Milwaukee WI. I can't imagine letting my kids do what my parents let me do. If I find my pictures, I'll post a few.

Just enjoying this threads new vitality.

A few boards I have collected. Some to skate, some to hang. It's great having a hobby cheaper than pinball.

Also, almost finished building the barn mini-ramp, just a two more sheets of masonite to trim and install.

All that web on the wall is from Halloween 2019
