    We are looking to buy a Tesla Model X. The test drive was great. FAST as my Honda V65...way cool and much safer!! I am wondering what any of you folks who own a Tesla have to say about their experience. Good? Great? Not so good? Have any of you done a long road trip? Any of you have the P100D battery and drive system upgrade? That system is rated at 0-60 mph in 2.9 secs --- awesome for an Electric Vehicle!!

    Hello BenetBoy78,

    I have a 6/2015 Model S85 with 67000km on it. I write from Germany, so I can't speak for Phoenix due different framework conditions.

    Before I bought the MS S85 I had an MB S350 and a LS460 (the better S-Class ..) Absolutely no engine noise, no jerky transmission. Relaxed driving is another dimension thanks to the autopilot in Tesla. The MS has demoted the "German Oberklasse" into a medium-class car. Thanks to the Superchargerflatrate fall with me about € 7500 gasoline costs away. In everyday life, you quickly find other advantages: huge trunk/frunk rooms, foldable back seats, spotify on board, a Google-based navi, instantly functioning heating, app-based operation, etc.

    When the MX came out I had looked at the synonymous, but it was not a five-seater available at that time. In the case of the 6-7-seater, it is not possible to extend the seat back seat.

    As a real recipe I reach 300km in winter, at -6C, in summer 350km.

    Here in Germany the Supercharger network is well developed. Unfortunately, the charging stations are often blocked by burners.

    Tesla is badly written by the German press. They are of the opinion that the German automotive industry is the best in the world. The fact is, however, that the lobby-based, criminal group gangster have completely slept in the e-mobility. Nokia, Kodak ...

    I would immediately buy a MS without hesitation.

    Model S P100D is down to like 2.38 seconds for 0-60 with latest upgrade due to Faraday Future trying to steal the "fastest production car" crown with 2.4 sec 0-60. Tesla uploaded an update and fixed that, pronto. Faraday future is a joke company, anyway. It will never see real production.

    No worries. No reason to apologize given you can speak and write English and I still have trouble with my primary language, English...LOL. My 14 year old son tells me that Americans call blocking the charge stations by gas driven cars as.... getting ICEd. Internal Combustion Engines blocking the chargers. too funny for an old guy who as a kid had a 1967 GTO. Man things are sooooo different now!! Still love my old pick ups but this Tesla will win me over too. NO Stiff Clutch to torque my knee...LOL.

    If it comforts you, your 1976 GTO has a commonality with the model X. Just think of falcon wing doors. Your next thought will presumably be the DeLorean DMC-12, right? John DeLorean has also designed your 1976 GTO. (Old news for you)

    So I turn off the teacher mode …

    Your knee will have peace. New problems come, think about your head. With 2.4 sec from 0-60 your head will probably be the tilt mechanism - Plump Bop ... When I drove a P85D, my slam switch almost triggered…

    The 100 is 1 Second faster

    I currently own a 2016 Model S P90D with the Insane mode upgrade. Before that I had a 2013 P85. I love the car! Honestly, the charge is so fast I don't know that you need the Insane mode upgrade. After owning a Tesla it would be hard to go back to anything else. I live in the Washington, DC area and have done some road trips to NY and the beaches of NC. The supercharger network is set up pretty well along most major highways. Driving on most 4-6 hour trips I'll typically need to stop once for a 20-30 min charge.

    Check this YouTube Video of how the Tesla system predicts the accidents of others in the area before the accidents happen!!! WTF? This is sweet engineering technology of the future and NOW. I am liking the Model X more and more. Wish I could do the Ludicrous....0-60 in 2.9 secs...yikes!!!

    Tesla's 0-60 is down to 2.28 seconds now with the last software update. It was 2.38 just last month.

    I do not own a Tesla, I have never even ridden in one but they do seem to be cool cars. I do have a question for you Tesla guys though. Recently there wa a Tesla model S involved in a deadly one car accident here in Indianapolis and the car had a terrible fire. I guess as a person uneducated in the electric vehicles I thought they would have been less likely to burn due to having no fuel. Looking at the links below I obviously was wrong! How flammable are the batteries in them?

    Less volatile than gasoline, but if you wrap them around a tree when you have .21 blood alcohol, you're definitely gonna rupture the battery casing and risk a L-ion fire. I mean, I know the girl's father is grieving, but it's pretty unlikely she would have been better off in a comparable performance gas car in a crash like the one she was in. The debris field was the length of a FOOTBALL FIELD. The witness says she went by him like a "flash" - so clearly driving way too fast for a city street (very drunk) and lost control.

    Rather than blaming the car, maybe he should put the energy into helping warn other young kids about the danger of buzzed and drunk driving. His daughter and her boss made a bad choice and it cost both their lives.

    Don't drive almost 3x drunker than the legal limit and the chances of this happening is more remote than the accident avoidance system saving your life.

    I have a Model S75. Fast, smooth, a pleasure to drive. I also just agreed to buy a 2010 Roadster with 5700 miles on it. If it passes inspection, I'll take delivery of it next week.

    I drove a Tesla Model S P100D - fastest car I have ever been it. Torque and acceleration like you cannot believe.... I have driven Porsche 911 Turbo, Ferrari's, Lambo, and even a stock car (Nascar) - - - NOTHING else comes even close...

    My Model X 60D 7-seater was delivered to me this past September 2016. This car is a dream to drive, feels very solid, and has some great zip. Rides so smooth that I don't notice I'm driving 80mph until I look at the speedometer. I know if I went with the 90 or now 100 battery, I'd have a few speeding tickets already. We've driven from Northern California to Southern California on a few occasions, stopping to charge along I-5 at the Superchargers for FREE. Sure, it may seem like a pain to have to stop and charge for 30-40 minutes, but it's a nice little break, and gives the kids a chance to stretch. The Model X has a surprisingly good amount of storage space for trips, considering the obvious rear cargo room, along with the "frunk" and hidden cargo area below the rear. The only "issues" we've encountered are some squeeky brakes, and the falcon wing doors seemed to click a little louder than expected. And once you get used to the super large windshield and the view it allows, you'll feel like your squinting and cut off from sights when in a standard sized windshielded vehicle.

    I'm so impressed with the Model X, that I don't have a single regret on reserving the upcoming Model 3 (yeah, the wife gets the X, I get the 3), and pleased that my spot in queue is bumped up now that I am a current Tesla owner.

    Can someone educate me on the current to say past 3 years offerings. I'm confused on the models, and what's upgradeable as far as ludicrous or insanity modes. Also a best guestimate on best bang for buck knowing they're all in the 80 to 100k mark.

    The Tesla accelerates very fast. But it does not stop or turn as fast as other performance cars because it is much heavier. You never hear of a Tesla turning fast laps on a race track (for more than 1 lap anyway) because driving it hard heats the batteries so much that the system reduces the power output significantly. Someone tried to run a hot lap on the Nurburgring and the car reduced power 3 minutes in.

    So as a fast accelerating electric car that will probably go a million miles it is great. But if you are after pure performance lighter cars will be much faster overall.

    I have a buddy that has one and it is the best vehicle I've ever driven (including late model Rolls Royce, Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche). A model S will be my next vehicle purchase. I can't wait to beat the pants off my neighbor's precious Ferraris! Plus it can hold my entire family and I have 5 kids.

    That is interesting and it will be cool to see how the future unveils itself as it did with the combustion engine. At near 6000 pounds with a very low center of mass.... its my upgraded go kart on street legal steroids....with accident avoidance capability. Freakin' cool technology once you see it in action in the youtube posts above. I cant wait for a future Tesla Pickup truck for my daughter, so I can get her vital organs out of the impact zone.

    I drive a 2016 Model S70D. The car is very nice... it's pretty surprising how quickly you get used to having no engine noise, no vibration, and no awkward gear changes no matter how good the automatic transmission.

    Autopilot works quite well and is great on long trips.

    The car is expensive, for sure - and insurance on it is rather high since repairs to the body, if necessary, are expensive.

    The speed and acceleration are fantastic, but as a daily driver, it's a rock-solid, very comfortable, reliable vehicle.

Larger batteries are typically coupled with hardware that can deliver the power to the motors that drive the wheel more quickly, hence the higher acceleration numbers.

    The model X is just the SUV version, with insane overcomplicated but cool doors.

    Add a "D" to the model number, and it indicates that it's all-wheel-drive. AWD increases range somewhat because of efficiency. The car is quite good in snow owing to the low center of gravity and ability to control each wheel's power 100% independently.

    Great info and concise....so a couple of questions:

    I would assume there is no conversion path from 2wd to AWD.

    If you buy a 60 or 75K can you upgrade to say a 110 later by changing the batteries and inverter? I Google this subject and the info is mixed...some say you can but Tesla won't program it...then there's a guy on ebay that supposedly can. I'd just hate to buy an 85 and want a 110 later

    The answers are, unfortunately, "no" and "no".

    * The body, behind the sheet metal, of an AWD Tesla is physically different from that of a RWD one
    * The physical configuration of the battery in a 100 is different from that of a <90.

    So, while you could go from a 60kWh battery to a 90, that's all that fits in the vehicle you have. Also, Tesla's not really interested in doing these kinds of upgrades... they allocate more of their time and effort into innovating new vehicles.

    That said, the overall service from them is fantastic.

    We bought a Tesla P85 for my dad for his 70th birthday in 2014. He loves the car more than life itself. My parents put money down on the new model as well that is due out later this year. Probably next year my dad will step up to a 100PD and I will buy the P85. My parents are pretty well off and my dad could drive basically anything he wants and I don't believe he will drive anything other than the Tesla. As he gets older, he is also very excited about the self driving features. His 85P is the fastest thing I have ever driven. I can only imagine what the newer models are like to drive.

    We are getting a 100D model X, with 5 seats and all the other options except the Ludicrous, in April. The whole family cant wait. I am thinking I can load at least one SS pin and one EM pin in the back and trailer tow maybe three more

    We were talking that the auto pilot and drive system will possibly allow us to drive longer to an older age than if we didn't have auto pilot. No doubt less accidents will occur with the auto drive systems which is great cause getting old sucks. We can retain our road freedom longer!! The flip side is, you really are not driving, just going for a ride most of the trip.

    The future is sooo bright for the next gen of bright kids. Until the tesla you tube videos and family interest, my boy and girl shrugged off being an Electrical Engineer. Now they are looking at various Univ that have those programs including UNDakota on-line accredited program. The accident prevention technology truly caught their attention. Cool!!

    No worries on the parental discussion. We are because of how they were... So cool at 70, Pops is still enjoying the ride...

    Electrician comes tomorrow for the Wall Connector 100 amp single phase. Started moving pins today to make room for the conduit run. No room in the garage for cars, so its a little tricky. I will see how the mounting turns out tomorrow. With Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station as a main power source I feel as we are CO2 emissions free driving it. Kinda cool.

    Shout out to Matt who brought his amazing ride by today so that the wife and I could test drive. I'm amazed at the technological advances that Tesla has made over the rest of the automobile industry. The handsfree driving would take some getting used to, but all the rest of the features would certainly make going back to driving a "regular" car difficult. Have to give some serious thought to upgrading my ride

    I got my Model X 100 D last Friday and it is fantastic!! Before it arrived I had the Electrician install the Tesla wall mounted charger. Lucky for us we had one spare 100 amp breaker and enough available amps in the existing panel to avoid brining in additional amps. The wall unit delivers a charge rate of 72 amps at 240 volts +/- and will charge the 100D in 6.5 hours from fully drained to fully charged, not something typically recommended to do, so I have been instructed. Instructions is to charge to 90% full for daily use and not let it go below 10% charge. Full charge for long trips is recommended. It was $550 for the wall unit charger and another $2000 for the install...FYI. The pic of TigerLaw is just a bonus....

    I must say it's nice to actually hear this kind of conversation in my lifetime.

    Growing up in detriot I watched the car industry destroy itself from the front seat of time.

    That said I love detriot, just not the car industry.

    But like I sId I am glad this conversation can even occour. The tesla is amazing in its capabilities. True competition in the auto industry can only help us all. It's nice to have options. Good luck owners. I am excited by the company tesla in general.

    I find the house battery to be amazing. After I get a freaking house I plan on wiring up a bad ass tesla battery. I might actually be more excited about all that but being disabled, driving meh who cares. Sorry.

    He has had some serious injuries and lucky to be even typing. I don't think anything will hurt his feelings, after all he has gone through. But a little bad form if you knew him.

    Please just because I cannot spell, don't worry about me, but thanks. I have many new challenges. I left d in 1990. I'm pretty sure I never could spell all that great anyways. If spelling Detroit is my only issue I'm doing pretty good.

    I wish I was back in my day when I did the Steely Dan, Kid Charlemagne thing on my motorcycle and "Went to LA on a dare, and I did it alone.." just to meet friends and enjoy the days with them before they are taken away. Carpe Diem.
    If I had the energy I would set the Tesla in Autopilot with your address, pick you up and head back to ZAPCON in phoenix with the Volcano blowing hot air the full ride.... Maybe someday buddy....

    Asshole governor of my state (Michigan) signed a law levying an additional $135 per year registration fee on top of existing registration fee for EV cars to help pay for roads. While that may be nothing for someone who buys a $90,000 Tesla, for the Nissan Leaf leasee (or former leasee) like me, that is a huge chunk of change. If your commute to work is short, it might take you 3 months to put $135.00 of gas into a Toyota Corolla. A large portion of your incentive to buy electric is gone when the government charges you excessive fees to own one.

    I have a Model X p100DL and it is absolutely amazing. I love driving it and find reasons to run errands every day. Some pinball in the background.

    This is my 2017 Model X 100D 5-seater black on black, trailer package, etc, I got last Friday with around 50 moving parts and 750 HP; with 500 in the rear and 250 in the front. Its not Ludicrous, but its fast enough. Very quick with the direct drive. Comfortable seating for a guy 6-2. The stereo system with Sirus Grateful Dead station is sweet. The front Window is a lot to shade in Arizona and I find myself moving the shade more than normal. The internal temp of the car is monitored and maintained at a set temp of 80F. I find the fan is going often and sucking battery juice in the process. This is the downfall of toooooo many pins and no room in the garage. Cant wait for Model P, the Pickup in 2018!!

    Time for a cool change..........

    Why don't I pick you up in the Tesla and bring you over with your brother and play some pins for awhile? If you bring 10K in cash, you can drive my one owner 2003 H2 home and park it next to your much sweeter H2. Or give it to your brother. Use my H2 as a mountain/desert traveler. You gotta love Arizona and 4 wheeling! Driveway is packed and something has to go....
