Quoted from audihere:We went to this season's taping of the semi-finals episode. Really awesome experience. Jason, the judge sitting on the right is a pinball collector and probably on Pinside.
Haha. Hey, neighbor. I just came across this.
Ask me anything about BattleBots, if anybody still follows this thread. =D
Thanks,
-Judge Jason

Cool. Love the show.
Saw some info saying you are no longer going to be a judge, is that correct?
If you are no longer going to be a judge, will you go back to competing?
Thanks.
Yes, the network "wanted a new face" for the season that just taped last month in Vegas.
Interpret that as you wish. *shrug*
I think our judge contracts stated a 1-year minimum gap between judging & returning to competing.
But the level of competition, commitment, investment, etc. has reached such high levels over the last few years (compared to when I was competing heavily in the Comedy Central days) that it's daunting to get back on that horse.
Believe it or not, pinball is a cheaper and easier hobby!
Thanks,
Jason

Cool to see you on here! I'd bet there's a lot of overlap between Battlebots afficionados & pinball hobbyists. I've always thought it would be a great pinball theme. Can you imagine the bash toys?
I find it funny that this thread is in the sub-forum "Hobbies without flippers," as there are so many good flippers in Battlebots currently!
Thanks, Seraph.
I used to collect & play arcade video games, but there was too much electronics repair for me, especially w/ monitors. I can troubleshoot & solder relatively well, but it's a challenge.
I like pinball much better b/c the PF is all mechanical & tangible. I can understand it better, & I can make repairs, adjustments, & mods.
Pinball PFs have a bit in common w/ BattleBots.
Flippers! Good observation--ha!
Thanks,
-Jason

Case in point: Hydra tonight. I never knew DeathRoll could fly like that!
Tried watching today because we are in a hotel and stuck with cable. I wanted it to be good, but it when throught 3 or 4 commercial breaks before a fight and it was over. Takes to long to see a match to be worth watching.
^ yep, biggest problem. The actual match was awesome. One bot flipped another 250 lb bot 4 feet in the air multiple times.
Quoted from rod90:The best way to watch is by DVR. There is so much fluff that it makes it hard to watch live.
DVR is the way to go. I don't mind the fluff--I multitask through that and occasionally hear some funny or interesting stuff--but the 5 minute blocks of commercials that show up frequently are just way too much.
This season of Battlebots was off the chain!!! Riptide was an amazing addition to the arena and I was rooting for HUGE to win it all. Some crazy upsets in the championship battles…looking forward to next season!
They should make a rule that you can only run one configuration. This is the second time that a team took the cowards way out to win a match with Huge. If you want to run a cowcatcher, run it every match.

The modular bot is the NOW. Did you see Sharkos last battle….got annihilated because he couldn’t change with the times. That being said yes the cow catcher was ridiculous. Saw Blaze engineers came up with a pretty good defense against Huge. I wouldn’t call it the cowards way since it was a battle to the end and they both took heavy damage. The show has been getting better each new season.

I agree.
I still really want to see self driving pre-programmed robots though. It's too much like remote control cars playing demolition derby. It's good, but I think adding in self control would make it better.
