Quoted from ryanbrooks:

What are you going to burn to break in the new truck?

It will probably be something mild like a Davidoff or Opus X as that was my first smoke in my previous truck.

Since we are going into spring and I like the new car smell it will probably be at least November this year….or maybe next year.

I almost forgot to take a picture

Right now. I thought I’d finish off the bottle with one of its own kind.

Not an AJ but someone else. Wrapper smelled really strong pre light but milder smoke. I like these too.

Last night. What’s funny was I was craving a cedar like Capitulo 2 or however you spell it. Went with this and scratched the same itch. The first one out of a box I bought about a year ago.

Somebody settle an issue that occasionally comes up. I have always been of the opinion that cigars which come in their own cellophane sleeves tend (in general) to be lower quality than cigars which are sold in the box au natural. Some cigar shop owners I discuss this with vehemently disagree. But the cigars they then recommend don't usually float my boat. What does everybody think? Any remarkable cigars which would prove this theory wrong?

Modern Cuban cigars don’t come in cellophane, so when it comes to Cubans, cellophane wrapped ones are fake and should always be avoided.

For non-Cuban cigars, some of the best come wrapped in cellophane (Fuente Shark), while others are unwrapped (Padron Anniversary).

#4366 11 months ago

Wrappers don’t mean much (if anything) in dictating quality. Most are wrapped these days.

If you get a wrapped Cuban, red flag, as PlanetExpress said.

One thing to consider is that the wrapper can prevent acclamation for humidity so may not hurt to unwrap a few that you want to have in a few weeks. My Jake Wyatt’s are a bit dry from the factory compared to how I like them whereas I’m having a Tatuaje right now that came in the mail today and it’s plenty moist.

Their recommendations might differ from your taste. The shops that I visit only recommend things to me after knowing my buying habits and preferences.

Cellophane is just to protect the cigar from damage while it’s in the box or personal humidor. Open a box of Padron Anniversary. Look at the foot of each cigar. Some will have some damage around the foot. Because they’re box pressed, they tend to have fewer casualties of war, but they still have some losses.

That’s not true - some do come in cellophane. Special Selection line comes to mind. . . (I think that’s what they’re called)

Central Cigar/Ruby Elixir in St. Petersburg FL.

Fine place.

Stay tuned for Ybor District in Tampa today.

The only current cello wrapped Cuban cigars are the ICT machine made ones, which are cheap non-export cigars: https://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/packaging/information#Individual_Cigars

Lots of other wrappers (foil, tubos, cedar, etc..), but not cello.

#4373 11 months ago

For y’all that enjoy Cubans, this is very much like a Siglo IMO as far as taste and draw. Probably a bit more nicotine strength though.

I think this may require further investigation. You could always invite a local to sample what you’ve got…

Ahhh - current production - I’m sure you’re right — I just know I’ve a couple cello’d boxes chilling - I wouldn’t be surprised if they are 20 years aged (seems like only yesterday)

Carreras Chupa Cabra. Good smoke. Not as good as the Brownstone though.

JFR Lunatic Maduro short robusto. This has to be the best $6 cigar by far! If there’s something priced comparably that’s remotely close, I haven’t smoked it.

I’m behind here and in general on pinside. Another from a sampler that came free with a box purchase.

IMG_0990 (resized).jpegIMG_0990 (resized).jpeg

It looked fine when it started but ended up rough. Came from that promotional box that was included with a box purchase. Maybe these were factory seconds?

I gotta laugh. I get samplers from Thompson's through a fellow cigar smoking friend.
We've gotten some killer deals; usually paying about $3.00 per stick. We usually split an order, but sometimes order two of the same deal.
I've yet to have a bad cigar from them. In fact, I'm usually blown away by the selection and quality of the smokes I've gotten. All very satisfying cigars.
Here's two I've enjoyed recently.
All are fresh, draw well, burn well, and are very satisfying.
Never had one that was plugged, split upon smoking, or other quality issues.

My last order from Thompson was after cutting open two Gurkhas to extract some sort of larva after seeing holes in the wrapper because the lady on the phone was trying to explain that they’d never send an order like that. It was a loose 5 pack too.

That must have been 2009 or so. Haven’t been back since.

Yes. Fortunately I caught it and I never had a large collection at the time. My dads friend had that happen to him and they are through a lot and he lost his interest in cigars after all he had to throw out. Kind of a nice reason to have a lot of smaller humi. But if you keep things stored properly you can prevent hatchlings if I recall but still…it is a risk we all take I suppose.

Cuba freezes all their boxes before export to prevent beetles. I’ve heard of collectors who buy farm rolled cigars that don’t go through the freezer doing the same themselves: double bag with their vacuum sealer and leave them for a week in their chest freezer, then slowly warm before moving to their humidor. I’ve only had a handful of farm rolled cigars, so I’ve just stored them in a herfador.

It’s the newest special edition. Very tasty, earthy with a tiny wisp of smoke. At $100, I think it is worthy of a buy.

Right now, a “Pre-Covid” Cohiba Siglo I, and a bit of Bulleit Barrel strength. I hate to say it, but my love affair between Habanos Cohiba will soon come to an end after my last few remaining Siglos and Secretos are gone.
