Quoted from PlanetExpress:

PLPC and Weller Antique. If you’re looking to get into aging cigars, the PLPC is a great option… At 5 years of age, these turn into caramel treats (buy the 50 cab, you’re going to wish you had). Perfect shorter smoke for the winter months.
[quoted image]

I got some of these on iHav about a year ago. Agree they are a fantastic "budget" cuban, and improve greatly with age. My only complaint is that they are very inconsistent with construction. Every other stick is extremely tight and very hard to draw. Have you had this issue?

That cigar is on my to do list...once I recover enough of my smell to appreciate it.

Quoted from spfxted:

VERY impressed with the BLK WKS cigars

I picked up a 5 pack of the 2021 release they have some fun wrappers. If the first one goes well (which I think it will) I’m going to pick up an autographed box.

I don’t know how to describe these hornets. It’s a crispy flavor with little aftertaste that much I know so far.

I’ve not, each has been nicely rolled. My cab was a graded box from FOH, for what it’s worth.

Tonight's test. It passed with flying colors and now I need to convince the wife for a large humidor to store boxes. Any recommendations on a 250+ humidor? My little 50 seems cramped already and don't like the idea of stacking different sticks on top of each other.

There are plenty....it's just how much do you want to spend....probably between 350 and 1,000.
Oh, and then, this....I just exchanged gifts with my buddy....he gives me Cubans....I give him books....

Coolerdor is my go to. I use one for current sticks, one for aging, and one for NCs. If you really want a furniture showpiece, these are epic: http://www.aristocrathumidors.com/S

Just ordered an autographed edition box of these and going to spread them out over a year if I can hold off that long. These come with a good kick which I can handle. It has some similar notes to the hornet I had the other night.

Well I’m not ready to convert my walk in closet to a humi yet but I did get a 3rd humi on order today should be here next week. I was going to do an Igloodor (coolerdor) but have some empty shelves in the living room to fill.

#2963 2 years ago

Just ordered stuff to make a coolidor. 120qt Igloo cooler, a bunch of spanish cedar planks, 4 spanish cedar cigar trays and hygrometer that connects to the Google home network. The plan is to build an insert that I can drop in the cooler with the cedar and one side stacked with trays, the other half for boxes, with netting or something to hold bovedas on the bottom of the lid.

Post pics of your build! What RH are you going for?

67% will be the goal. I was thinking of using wood glue to attach the planks together but am worried about introducing unwanted odors to the cooler.

#2966 2 years ago
Quoted from PokerJake:

I was thinking of using wood glue

On my first coolidor, I used hot glue to secure the cedar to the cooler. Worked very well. In fact, it's been at least five years, and even with the last year and a half of non-use (I have a NewAir now), the planks are still holding firm. No funky smell with the hot glue.

#2967 2 years ago
Quoted from pudealee:

No funky smell with the hot glue.

I used hot glue for my first coolerdor, works great and no chemical smell. Then I figured out that the cedar from the boxes was plenty, so I just store sticks in boxes and removed the trays I had.

#2968 2 years ago

PokerJake I know a number of shops in the cities usually have piles of empty cigar boxes. I assume this is just like empty boxes of wine at the liquor store where you could pick up a handful for free. Of course I’d maybe grab a fistful of sticks from their humi too.

You could pick out the higher end boxes that have thicker walls and 10 sticks per box to get things started so you have a higher cedar content rather than a few Fuente curlyhead boxes and now your full.

Haven’t had one of these since last summer. A bit milder than I remember.

Going to be a fun week. I’m off work, humi coming, cigar order coming, boveda packs coming for new and existing humis.

Got a 5 pack of these 1958 thingys. I don't know what they are....a guy in JR's told my brother to get them. They were actually pretty good!
...and, of course, almost any Cuban Partagas is good!
I was with Harriet at Capital Grille enjoying a nice $275 lunch!....when my friend came in (big liquor dist on East Coast) and he was with the owner of one of our favorite steak houses (Sparkill Steak House) ......then things REALLY got crazy!

Just checked the aging humidor to try to remember what all I had (someday I’ll get organized and use an app). Pleasantly surprised by how deep I went on the Rio Seco… a full box and two 10s… time to crack open the 10s from ‘19:

Visiting the 12 again. Much better this time probably going in without having had a smoke the previous night. Yes that’s one of the coolerdors in the background.

Are we going shopping together for number 4?

I see you took the drawers out that’s not a bad idea. To fit boxes and bags in I suppose?

I am impressed by the thicker walls that should hold more moisture. What RH you keep that one at and does it stay well balanced? How do you set up your side doors?

The insert idea didn't quite work out, the planks weren't uniform enough to work with unless I wanted to cut them down. Currently have 4x84 bovedas, waiting on 2 large sponge type humidifiers that I'll use with 50/50 PG. I have a box of Montecristo no 4 and Hoyo De Monterrey Epicure de luxe on the way.

If it was me, I’d lightly spritz all the Spanish cedar with distilled water, toss in the Bovedas, then leave it closed up for a week and check it. Those Bovedas should be plenty for a tightly sealed cooler, as you won’t have the leakage that occurs in wood humidors.

I like to mount a plank of Spanish cedar on the inside lid of the cooler, which I’ll spritz with DW if the Bovedas start to go flat.

Nice coolidor. I had a very good coolidor set up for many years. My only issue was during the summer months (here down south) the internal temp got waaaay too high. I ended up having to go another direction. I kept mine upright, like a mini fridge. I even had battery powered LED lighting that would turn on when I opened the door. It had a small hatch where I could open it for my favorites.
