Well I’m not going to let you all have all the fun. Despite my fucked up post Covid nose blues I am enjoying this one. The smell of a lit cigar is still messed up funky weird, but the flavor is still on point. I can enjoy half the experience until my nose wakes up again. I ain’t putting a torch to any of my better sticks, but at around $3.50 this one from my ‘cheap’ humidor works fine.

Hey, give those Nubs some love! I have found them to be great starter cigars for those friends who want to try a light, short cigar. Many are happy to stay at exactly that level, with pure Nubs or Nub Nuances.

I agree... by cheap I just mean the price I paid not the quality. I have always enjoyed Nub. I bought a bundle of 35 for I think $112, that price was too good to pass up.

Well, here goes nothing…a little Guantanamera Minutos. My first non-Habanos SA Cuban. Wish me luck.

Update on the Guantanamera….

I started to cut it, and realized it had already been cut. How convenient. Within four or five draws the feel of the stick went from firm to mushy, like any short cut filler cigars do. The initial flavors were harsh. The retro-hale was better than the initial draw. This got better over time. Smoke time was about 35 minutes.

Would I recommend this cigar? Nope. Would I offer it to a friend? No, at least not without a disclaimer. Will I throw them out? Nah. They will be good enough for a quick smoke where time is tight.

It’s twice the price, but for me the Partagas short is king of the shorts.

I remember the first stick I had from this box of 12. Kind of underwhelmed but as I continued they got better and better. Now I’m down to my last two and wish I had more.

Nub Cain F and some football...nice flavors on this one. Minus the nose I’m learning to appreciate the flavors alone of these cigars.

My last of the Churchill style (I don’t think it’s technically that) but not as much flavor as the last. I have a couple more robusto I think that’s got more flavor if I recall.

Happy college football Saturday. This Paul Stulac Black is, finally, giving me great flavor but also some new aromas other than the weirdness. I think I’m retraining my nose, it’s slow but so excited to see an improvement. My MSU Spartans...yeah they have some work to do.

My last of the Caldwell sample long live the king. Apparently this was made to smoke after another in their lineup. Two cigars in one sitting is something I did last winter but can’t do that anymore. This one wasn’t overly memorable.

Good news is I still have plenty of The King is Dead. I think they are still my favorite. There is one milder one too that was a pleasant surprise.

That's a pretty old Padron, I hope it hasn't lost too much flavor! It's from the 1990's, before they started putting serialized bands on their cigars. I bought the box about 15 years ago, so they probably had a decades worth of age on them when I got them. I haven't had one in a very long time (probably since I originally acquired the box) and I remember them being absolutely amazing, one of the best cigars I've ever had! I'm afraid to light one up now, I fear that they're past their prime and the magic is gone. So, @EJS, how was it? Please don't sugarcoat it, I can take the gut punch if it's no longer a great cigar.

In other cigar news, I managed to score a box of Davidoff Year of the Tiger and a box of Tatuaje Boris (the new release). The Year of the Tigar cigars are supposed to look pretty cool, Davidoff selected wrapper leaves that were striped in order to mimic tiger stripes. EJS is splitting them with me, so hopefully we'll be able to link up and smoke these new cigars in the near future!

As the saying goes....smoke em if you got em.

I think you'd be pleasantly surprised. I still got a beginning middle and end had good flavor. It was definitely a Padron. But again I haven't had one for several years. I can't remember if they are strong but I'd say it's slightly on the lighter side of things.

I don't ever have to worry about my collection getting old since I'll smoke them up sooner than later. But as long as what you have is properly humid I think they should stay fresh for quite awhile. I'm even going to try one of those RYJ's next summer that I recently bought (will probably make PlanetExpress cringe) and if they're great, will keep going. If they're too strong will give it another year.

Absolutely! I'm working tomorrow and picking up Dr Who tomorrow night. Will be around all weekend and then I'm off Wednesday Thursday Friday to prep for the party on Saturday. Hey there are a couple other MN people in this thread. Think about stopping by will have about 60 pinball machines or so set up. Depending on what I can get working in time. PM me if interested.

Oh does anyone have any tips for breaking in a fresh igloo cooler that still has a plastic factory smell? I've had my cooler for almost 10 years so that isn't a concern. (I think I remember having this conversation here or in a PM last summer)

I'm working on setting up a rig for my friend who wants to store his smokes in the garage. He has a furnace installed in the garage so temperature is controlled. It's a bit of a workshop environment so I figured something rugged is best too. Plus the humidity is super low so a good seal is better than a traditional humi. He doesn't have an expensive taste as you saw in the order above. Got some boveda packs at 69% coming along with some cheap torches and (better quality) refill fluid to get him going. We are both guilty of losing lighters so I don't mind the cheap ones.

Unfortunately I have too much of a distinguished taste and can spot bad butane.

The one I had previous to my NewAir, I lined with cedar planks (hot glued). I never tried to get the smell out after that.

Wash with Dawn dish soap, rinse, wash with water and baking soda, leave it open in the sun to dry. The last step might be hard this time of year…

#2889 2 years ago

The monster mash continues. I might finish the box by the end of the year after all. I’m 1/3rd into this stick and would buy a box of these alone

Got an amazing ash on it. Almost half the cigar length.

So this is my 3rd (?) sitting tonight with a RyJ and surprising it’s still smoking fresh. It’s been sitting in the garage for 4 days. Last night I didn’t touch it. PlanetExpress told me to let this box sit for several years and I see why.

The first few minutes felt like things were about the same as the aged stick I had. About 5 minutes in I new I was in trouble and this would be a handful

While still delicious each time it’s VERY strong and can only take so much. On the plus side it’s like having 3 different sticks. Each picture is from a different night:
