Getting down to the nub now. Who am I kidding…I could burn the rest of the box by the end of the month the way this one smoked. But I won’t.

D4 is a great robusto and the D4’s big brother Lusitanias is an awesome DC (very similar blend, just 3” longer).

What do you think of the D5?

If I’m looking for a shorter D4, I just go to the Short. Partagas Shorts are a must for winter (50 cab FTW).

Posting about the Lusi got me thinking about them…. This is a fantastically aged ‘08, paired with Arberlour A’Bunadh (time for another bottle).

For $6 and some change this one is pretty good. I’m shopping out a HUO Hollywood heat so this one is burning nice and slow.

This building was owned by my great grandfather John Caldwell. I wonder if I’m related to the same Caldwells. Probably not.

Something different tonight, ‘19 “Nudies” N1, which is the lancero size… A neat project rolling Cuban style cigars from NC tobacco. Partnership between Hamlet Paredes (was the greatest roller in Cuba, before he defected, now he’s at Rocky Patel) and Rob Ayala (owner of FOH). The cold aroma of these is all mint and barnyard. I tried one ROT and was sure it needed some time down, interested to see what a year down has done for them.

I would be happy to host the first gathering. Plenty of space on the back deck and lots of machines to play.

I think there are 2-3 active pinsiders in this thread in my area not that that matters one way or another.

Some pics from my last gathering not too long ago. I have a couple people from that group newly interested in cigars heheheh

How does Saddle River relate to Upper Saddle River? Is that worthy of a good cigar chat?

Same here. I went looking for a box but sold out where I usually buy. I got a 5 pack robusto coming.

Seems to be a common trend among a lot of brands right now. I know a place in WI I could get most LFDs but I won’t give them my business anymore.

Well my fridge crapped out today and work was busy so looking forward to ending my day with some good puffs. I meant to grab a Juan Lopez but wasn’t paying attention and got one with a similar looking band. Eh it’s a cigar so who cares!

I opened up my Caldwell variety pack tonight. I’m starting from the least exciting.

It says “standard — die young” on the side. I suppose that’s one way of knowing.

Had The Smoking Jacket last night, fantastic cedar aged goodness. Tonight it’s this one from Plasencia, very nice burn and light creamy smoke. At twice the price I’m still waiting for the wow factor I got last night but it’s smooth.

You should be kicking things off (haha) with the football edition LFD.

There’s a few by my house but they are $5 overpriced per stick in my opinion. Maybe I’ll buy just one…

Smoke Inn has them in stock at $11: https://www.smokeinn.com/La-Flor-Dominicana-Capitulo-II/

If you place an order, grab a 5 pack of the Sarsaparilla blended by Cigar Dojo, good sticks!

If that’s the going rate I’ll go clear out my local shop tomorrow

Does the cigar really have a sarsparilla smell and taste?

#2543 2 years ago

Posting about places to buy cigars reminded me to share an idea if you ever find yourself with too many cigars (or accessories):

https://cigarsforwarriors.org/

My BIL did multiple Airborne Afghan tours and told me the cigars they received were huge for them, just gave them a reason to sit and relax for an hour. Since then, I’ve been donating regularly. You can mail to them directly, or make a donation at many cigar shops.

It’s not like a fake root beer barrel candy kinda flavor, but it definitely has some chocolate root beer flavor going on. I’d say it’s more like an Eli’s root beer with a ton of black pepper and just a bit of chocolate powder added, rather than a Hires root beer flavor.

Thanks! You now have me interested in Eli's Root Beer as well.

When smoking, do the cigars have a noticeable sarsparilla aroma?

I don’t recall the aroma having any sarsaparilla, for me it was just the non-retrohale flavor in the second half that had sarsaparilla notes.

Got this from a recommendation from PlanetExpress never tried them. Got one of the last boxes available at least where I was shopping.
