It’s like any other hobby…you can put as much or little into it as you want. The Kart is one cost, add in truck trailer, etc if you don’t have those to haul it. Then the maintenance..you can pay or save and do it yourself but there will always be something to tinker with/fix. Add in protective gear and cost for track time/races/fuel etc. It will cost more than you think. Just to get an idea but you are looking at $2-$5K just to get into it…there are cheaper options if you just want a Kart..it’s a great bonding opportunity but do your homework….injuries/accidents are real. Take your grandkid to ride go karts somewhere and see if they enjoy it….an open track by yourself is fun but actual races with other drivers with performance karts is quite different than public entertainment tracks where the karts are slow…these suped up karts really need responsibility behind the wheel…some kids have it and some don’t….plenty of adults get on these as well that shouldn’t because they think they can be Mario Andretti…

Look online in your area to see if there are any local tracks/racing leagues…lots of information available if you really want to look into it and how to get started.

Quoted from CigarPundit:

Sounds like a guy with some experience in the hobby. Good advice.

Not personally but I know others that are into it. I have thought about it but…it’s the safety side that keeps me from pulling the trigger and diving into it. These suped up Karts are FUN and a thrill for sure. But the side most people forget are the crashes and injuries that can/do happen. They are usually not intentional and usually minor but every driver is pushing hard so they happen. That’s not to scare anyone off but just a caution for anyone to do your homework, know the work involved, risks, etc.
