Basically, would you be interested in an "anti-pop" kind of device that would prevent the "pop" sound that most games make at power on (when the amp gets power). It's a common DC audio pop that high end stereo people have already solved long ago, but pinball still seems to have it. JJP has it on their latest machines.

I've been trying to design and produce my own solution for my own use that would be generic enough to work on older B/W games and newer JJP games, among others. It would hopefully be plug and play for at least both of these game manufacturer/eras. I don't know enough about other games to know if they have the issue or could easily work with this fix. I was talking to one of the larger audio mod manufacturers and they said they could be interested in producing a solution if there was enough interest.

I am sort of spitballing that it would be around $30, give or take. Plug and play, basically mute the game until after the amp gets power. No audio pop on startup and possibly no audio pop on power off. If there is enough interest the manufacturer could produce something commercially that is much smaller and easier to install than my proof of concept.

There is one available for early WPCs.

I don't think the later games have as much of a problem with the original hardware?

    I'd be in.

That is nails on a chalkboard to anyone who knows audio. I can't speak to the actual harm it causes, but certainly doesn't sound good.

30 bones? I've paid double that for much, much less.

Ah nice, couldn't find anyone making them anymore, that doesn't help modern games. Not sure about WPC model versions, I'm not that knowledgeable so unsure how many that other device covers.

All three of my JJP games have the same 'ol pop issue as my older games do.

I’m interested in buying one of these if this conversation is still valid.

If my Jackbot was at high volume and had a bunch of earth-shattering amp and speaker mods then the pop would bug me and I might be interested. But it isn't, so it doesn't, so I'm not. Hell if I had the sound cranked up with those mods even the boot-up 'bong' noise might make me jump.

    Take a look here: http://tinyurl.com/cnd2z or https://groups.google.com/g/rec.games.pinball/c/mYfIzwTGkUY?pli=1

It was a pretty nice little kit for WPC machines that did exactly what you are suggesting. Not sure if Herb Schanke still follows this site, but he may have suggestions on making another run of the boards...

If it was a $15 solution I would be in, otherwise its not really an issue with game play.

We have the device in the wild for JJP games already, a v1 device which handles the pop at turn on. Seems that, since I just got my first Stern, JJP and Spooky have the biggest issue here (of games that I have) then WPC games. If any of you don't own a JJP then you don't know the horrors of these sounds. For a $10k machine it shouldn't have the pop.

v2 is coming out this year which will handle the pop on and off. I expect it will work for JJP, Spooky and most B/W games.
