Quoted from HoakyPoaky:

Here's a link to the only marketing info released so far, which covers all of the differences between the different versions. As Pinchroma said, pictures coming soon.

Even those are subject to change simply because they haven't been updated since expo and we know the game has changed since then so stand by.

Jack's business model of showing the game as it is developed not only builds excitement for the game, but also solicits feedback from ops and pinheads that influences the quality and fun factor of the game. I know it is harder for JJP that way, but look at the results! Thank you Jack, I'm eagerly but patiently awaiting my Day 1 order.

Hobbit at Automated 12/13/14

#104 5 years ago

The video is marked as private. You have to make it public.

#105 5 years ago

Trying to figure out how to do that. Not having much luck.

I hope that the side art on the SE changes so that Smaug is only on one side. That would seal the deal for me.

Hey Fixie...Any luck getting that video set to public? I'd love to see it (looking for any Hobbit news I can get ).

Thanks,

I think I've got the above YouTube privacy thing straightened out. Let me know if it's working or not.

#113 5 years ago

Watched it and it looked great! Thank you for sharing!

#114 5 years ago

Watched it a few times and love how the Smaug head moves around and I assume will later talk during the multiball

#115 5 years ago

Sorry it took so long. I think it's going to be quite the pin when it's done. It's already pretty great.

Sweet! Thanks for posting! I can't wait to play it myself.

Looks great. Not fast, but certainly not slow. Looks like this pin has a lot going on and a lot of shots. Combined with great (story based) rules, music, SFX and animation...........= winner.

Hope to play it on the 27 December.

It will have teeth as well.

Thank you for the extra effort Fixie; it looks great! In under one minute, this clip has totally destroyed the shreds of patience I had remaining. I want it now!

This will be perfect next to WOZ ECLE, as it is so completely different! It seems to take the best of the old school pins and presents those features in a modern format. WOW!

#121 5 years ago

I do like the playfield, and popups, but the back of the pin (both sides could have been so much better). I just think it was a bit of a let down on the popper area, bag end, lcd book. Smaug isn't too bad really, just wish the mech that made his head turn didn't look so odd. I know this is a remnant of the mountain side 180 - but I wish it could be a bit more natural looking if it is just moving the head left and right.

I am still getting it though -

#122 5 years ago

that looks great, fast for a widebody and seeing a little of the lcd in action is awesome. I think its going to be special.

#123 5 years ago

Could the "bag end" be a dragon related ball capture when finalized?

Do the holes in the pf support any consideration for the mechanics of anything like this in that area?

That video was great

Just remember it's still a proto type and is not a finished product. I am sure JJP is holding back a few good surprises for the release.

Did that happen with WOZ? Honest question, as I wasn't paying attention for that release.

Meaning, 2-3 months before production, were there any significant changes made?

Jack has said that there are more surprises coming - not sure what or how - but I think there is a bit more polish planned.

Ton's actually. And of course the maturity of the platform as a whole.

Alex, can you say something about how the LCD area will become?

That's what makes me think I'm going to pee myself when I see what PL/JJP#3 will be!

Ok, I have some thoughts I want to share. Let it be known that I haven't followed the project super closely so far.

I'm seeing a video where there is some sort of big book(?) on the right side of the upper part of the playfield, and a video + pictures without where there is a screen... What's the deal with the screen? And what's the deal with the book?

I generally feel that the book I saw looked oddly out of place and removing it would be much better than having it there. Sometimes less is more!
Also, the slingshot axes doesn't really do much for me, and actually looks off...

Other than that, I really like the atmosphere of this game, the layout seems legit and with Keith on the code... Damn I wish I had more money for the time being!

#135 5 years ago

I was wondering if book will be like the Crystal ball in woz

#136 5 years ago

The slingshot axes were cooler they were chrome on the whitewood. Just like replacing the plastic tubing for wireforms, I'd like to see these cheap looking plastics pulled and chrome axes come back.

Jack did say the axes will be made smaller. Maybe the material they are made of will change too?

There is only one axe and whatever the other one is on the left slingshot.

Somebody mentioned in another thread about some problem with the Smaug licensing? Was he just talking out of his ass or is there something to that? First I've heard of it....

From earlier, and I havent been following closely, I remember Jack saying (or people saying that he was saying) that the dragon was supposed to fit several roles AND interact with the ball. I believe the diverter on the middle ramps would be the tail etc... It seems licensing stopped this.

#141 5 years ago

Exactly ! No mention of problems just that they had strict rules which were followed .

That was me, No I dont speak out my rear end. I spoke to Jack at Automated. It was not just Smaug but the entire theme. He stated to me that they had worked on Smaug for months in getting him to interact and steal the balls, they spent a lot of time and money, But when it was presented, WB would not let them do it. It went all the way to the Top. There were even video clips they had to take out. He even stated when they were trying to design Smaug before the release. They saw Smaug on the tail of a plane and asked if they could use that as a design and they were told NO! They ended up having to change the entire thing. Basicly PJ and Tolkien had the final say and it was Tolkiens Baby and he said No! Sounded to me like they were total control freaks.

Ironic, isn't it?
Instead of a f'n awesome pinball-interacting dragon, we get this -to maintain "integrity".

#144 5 years ago

Unfortunitly JJP had no control over it. However I did play the latest Prototype and had a blast. I cant even imagine how good this will be when completed.

It would be a SHAME if that technology "slipped" into the hands of an aftermarket mod specialist

Well, I hope they can use this on another machine. A generic dragon on another fantasy-themed pin perhaps? I would be a shame for all that time and money to go to waste.

#147 5 years ago

Looks nice! Very good looking, the only things im not keen on are the axes on the slings and that of course its just smaugs head. Thats interesting that its not allowed by the licence for smaug to interact with the ball, why not?

#148 5 years ago

I think if the Smaug ate your balls then little children would be afraid to watch it. Just guessing.
