    Quoted from Whysnow:

    Are you people Fing serious?
Do you stop going to events due to the normal Flu? If no, then why would CovN19 stop you?!??!?!!!?
    math... how does it work...
COVID-19: Approximately 3,653 deaths reported worldwide; 17 deaths in the U.S., as of Mar. 8, 2020.
Flu: 291,000 to 646,000 deaths worldwide; 12,000 to 61,000 deaths in the U.S. per year.

I would agree, unless you have direct contact or live with the elderly, or someone who has a compromised immune system.

    Quoted from Wickerman2:

Normal flu has a vaccine and anti viral treatment and is lethal to a small fraction of people AND you usually know if you have the flu. The numbers are skewed because corona hasn’t spread as far as the flu.

Well, the vaccine doesn't work 100% of the time, and for the anti viral treatment to work, you have to catch it within the first 24 hours. Otherwise your SOL.

But I agree, if you have the flu, you usually know it.

    Quoted from DanDanDAN:

You usually have the flu several days before you start feeling symptoms.

True, but once you feel symptoms, they come on fast.

    Quoted from Multiballmaniac1:

This is the problem nobody cares about. Screw the elderly. Sad.

How the hell do you infer that? Nobody is saying that, they are pointing out the risk tolerances are different between age groups.

    Quoted from snyper2099:

I am not that surprised at the government response thus far. It is a direct response to the panic put forth by the local and national news media, social media, and other media that is really only doing this because it is an opportunity to make THEM HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS A DAY. All mentioned sources are involved because it's the best way to put their ideas about how to run things into the spotlight and to drum up support for their ways of thinking. Same old song and dance over the last 100 years.

Dead on. Government tries to control the panic and the media fuels it by saying they aren't doing enough.

I see France has outlawed any public gatherings of 1,000 or more people.

Didn't stop the annual dress like a smurf day.

Those reports out of Italy sound brutal.

    Quoted from roffels:

Funny enough, in response to the Spanish flu, the US government did not want the media writing negative news, so both downplayed the severity and millions died. Granted, that was 101 years ago. Still, a cautionary tale.

Well, while true, the practice of medicine was completely different. Viruses wouldn’t be discover for a decade and no where did they talk about washing hands. In fact they probably still practiced bloodletting.

    Quoted from ccbiggsoo7:

    ain't happening guaranteed

And it's a shame as the work that goes into preparing for these events is huge. Not much you can do....
