Shameless plug: I am writing a comic with my friend and amazing artist Lucas Cervellini. He grew up in Argentina and came to the states to do comic books, and got sidetracked into becoming an outstanding tattoo artist and shop owner. He had the art done for the first several pages of this project for years, and a rough idea of a story and a few pages scripted in Spanish. He first asked me to be his editor and help him with some of the harder aspects of English vernacular that even non native fluent speakers never quite get down. But we ended up sitting down and completely rewriting the entire story arc and started a new script entirely. I’m writing, he’s penciling and a couple of his buddies back in Argentina are inking and coloring. We have a second and completely unrelated and totally original story we are also working on that we will do as an ongoing after Alice is done (5 issues), and submit to try to get picked up and published. Or we might self publish it.
Either way, this one is pretty fun. See what you think...
I wanted to share an idea I had a while back about storing my comics. I had been doing the long box thing (probably like most of you) for the better part of 40 years. They work, but they are ugly and they ended up taking up entire closets and it was kind of a pain to access them. I needed a better solution. This is what I came up with. I bough some 4 drawer lateral filing cabinets (Steelcase Model #9LF18364F) from a used office supply store for $120 each (new they go for $600- $800). It didn't matter what they looked like, because I had a local cabinet guy professionally laminate them for $200 each. I bought some handles at Home Depot. I didn't want to stress the laminate when pulling on the handles, so I mounted some particle board on the inside of the facing of the drawers. And for the dividers, I picked out the thinnest plywood they had at Home Depot. I did all the measurements ahead of time and had them do all the cutting at the store. I would estimate that all in, it probably cost me about $360 per cabinet. Each one holds about 2000 comics. Just buying the long boxes for 2000 comics could probably cost at least $150. For me, it is well worth the additional cost to have something that looks great and is easily accessible. In the final picture, the bookcase on top of the cabinets is a typical oak bookcase that I just turned on its side. It fits perfectly on top of two of the cabinets (they are 36 inches wide each). I just cut up the shelves to make the custom cubby holes. Hope that gives you some ideas.

Damn that's an organized collection!
Sanctionman-get rid of the plywood dividers. They off-gas like crazy. And are able to discolor paper
Looks great
Anybody holding any Marvel Star Wars Comics? The key issues seem to be in pretty high demand these days with the success of the Mandalorian and the new Boba Fett series coming out. Heck, Star Wars is 44 years old this year.

I have a few that I've managed to hold onto all of these years.
I have Star Wars no. 10 and 11. They are not graded, but probably a solid 7.5, maybe as high as an 8 if pressed.
I also have the reprint editions of 1-3. These are still from '77-'78. Marvel had no idea how quickly Star Wars was going to sell out. Movie tie-ins usually didn't do well back then. So they did reprints almost immediately. They are not as desirable, but still, as you say, they are going on 44 years old.

Seemingly overnight 3 issues are over 1k if you have a nice example of the book (#1, #42 and #68). There are a lot of Star Wars fans. It would appear that Disney is tapping the comic books for some story lines on their new shows (hence the drastic price increase). I could sell mine and buy a Topper for one of my Stern games.
When you folks send things to CGC, are you sending books with that have the storage bags taped? Not taped? Self-adhesive bags?
Also, any advice for packing? Do you get those comic mailing boxes?
Thanks!

CGC has changed their packing guide lines several times over the last few years. They now have a mailer kit you can purchase to send in your comics. If you go to the website they have videos you can watch. Personally, I still send them in using the old method. Stacks of 5 comics bagged, boarded and taped separately and the inserted into a larger magazine bag. The group of five is then tapped to a larger square of cardboard. Repeat the steps if you’re sending in more comics. When done assembling your stack add another square of cardboard on top making a comic sandwich. Wrap the sandwich in bubblewrap and box it up. That’s pretty much it. Just make sure you insure it when sending it off.
Quoted from MRG:I sold my whole run of Marvel SW 1-107 just before they announced the Omnibus. $450. That was about 5 years ago. Was that a deal?
I’m sure that made somebody happy.

Wish my Batman 1 was worth over 2mil. Sadly it’s just a slightly restored 1.8 but still happy to have one. With the crazy prices all these silver and copper age comics are commanding I think most of the golden age mega keys are still way undervalued... or the silver and copper age comics are waaay overvalued based on rarity.

Thanks for looking.
Neal Adams was one o& the best Batman artists out there. He, along with Denny O’Neil, helped revolutionize the 1970s Batman character into the dark, mysterious figure as originally intended. RIP Sir
Hey comic collectors: these are pretty cool. Limited to 200 each and featuring the girls of Archie comics (Betty, Veronica, Sabrina). Dan Parent is one of the more popular artists doing "good girl" art these days and the theme is pinball / arcade related. He has been the Archie Comics primary artist for the last 3 decades.
