It bothered me since a while, and finally I have removed the LED displays. I don't like that the segments of the digits in "off"-state still are too prominently visible. It didn't work for me, at least not on Time Fantasy. The original displays simply look better (despite the bad photo, sorry for that).

Actually I swapped the LED displays with the original displays from my Alien Poker. Strangely enough the LED displays don't bother me on AP, perhaps because of the dominant silver frame round the displays.

I'm more fond of the original plasma displays as well.

How about a layer of light window tint on the LED's to hide the segments?

Yes I had been thinking along these lines as well. Actually there are two issues: the segments have a light grey colour. But moreover the segment lines are thicker than the original plasma displays. I was thinking that this could be solved by cutting out a sort of "stencil" with thinner segment lines from black adhesive vinyl. That might already look much better. I'll give that a try and will keep you posted

Stencils are ready as well.

Hey I'm wondering about where you had these stencils made, or at least what material should I ask for? I have a cutter that can cut max 12x24 inch vinyl, but nothing this big. I have .svg files made and thinking it would be easier to not need to piece things together... Thanks.

I'm having my stencils cut here in a local plotter shop in Belgium. The material used is medium tack: it sticks well enough for this purpose but it can easily be removed afterwards without any damage to the painted areas. No idea what brand it is unfortunately.

g94 What model of flatbed scanner are you using there to capture the cabinet graphics?

I'm using a HP SCANJET 4600 see-through scanner. It's great for playfield art as well.
There's currently a NIB one for sale on Ebay: https://ebay.to/35yvQtQ.
