I was curious if anyone might have had the same problem. I keep blowing a transistor on the auxiliary driver board for one of the divertors on the subway. Each time I fix the transistor it plays well for a day or two and blows again. I checked the coil and it tests fine, though it locks up of course when the transistor fries. Anybody had a similar experience?

Have you checked the diode on the board?

Maybe have a very critical look at the wires and connectors running from the coil to the board, perhaps one is nicked and touching metalwork?

Diodes good on the board. Maybe I'll try another coil in its place after I fix the board again.

Good point on the wires. When I take that coil off the string though I don't have an issue anywhere on that chain. Worth a look of course.

I had a problem with Getaway where one coil tag would (sometimes) touch the metal side rail when lifting the playfield and pop the fuse BUT it only did it once every 10 times - very frustrating to find....I would certainly look for trapped or damaged wiring first before replacing coils.

It just essentially fried the coil and I found out the hard way this time. What's weird is it fried the coil and transistor but not the fuse.
