This trip sounds epic, enjoy!

Hey Dave,

awesome - have tons of fun....

All the best for the three of you
See you in Carnegie!

RD a true globetrotting pinhead. You're seeing more of the world in a couple weeks then most of us have in our lives.
Enjoy the trip.
If you're in Vegas this weekend you gotta pop in one of the big casinos sportsbooks and check out March Madness. Best on Thursday and Friday. Went 3 years in a row. Insanity.
Good luck to you and your fam in the tourneys

#54 8 years ago

That is how you schedule trip! You're doing, what I always talk about doing. Taking a few weeks, traveling the states and taking in the sites. Sent you a pm, in case you can make it to CT during your NYC leg.

Thanks guys. We talked about this a little in the hearse thread ... You gotta do things while you can. I've known guys who've said "I'm gonna go to X one day.." And then they get cancer or something and that's the end of that.

I travel around pretty cheaply, coach airplane seats, mid price hotels, lots of grocery store food so we don't have to eat out all the time. You can have a pretty good trip for not much cash if you want to.

The takeaway ... Just do it.

F Ing A Dave. Take it all in! Live it up.

That's what life is all about

RD, you are manly. That is a damn long flight in coach seats, 16 hours?

11 hours.

Coach seats - $800 USD each return x 3

business class - $3000 USD each return x 3

Manly = spending all the difference on Modelos.

That's a new Stern Premium right there!

Looks like a great trip

#61 8 years ago

For an Aussie and I'd say for a kiwi a 16 hour flight is a walk in the park try going to Europe that's 22-30 hours depending on the stop over. I'm 360lbs guy and I wedge just nicely into an airplane seat in coach. I have plenty of family in Canada my self I have visited them 4 times in last 10 year my parents went every year from the mid 90s to a couple of year ago. Not once have they come to Australia and money's not the issue but it's the time it takes to fly here that is the problem for them.

Yep, flying anywhere over 5 hours (Thats an L.A. to NYC flight) seems to put most guys off making the trip down under.

You just gotta grin and bear it. Otherwise you ain't going.

#63 8 years ago

Y'all still in So Cal? I'm down here for work, and I'm always down for pins and pints! Of course I say always, but I have meetings through the day, hopefully not too much homework after that.

If I can't meet and greet, have fun in Vegas!

I went to Sydney when I was 18. 8 hour delay in Chicago, 4 hour flight to LA. 6 hour layover in LA. 11-12 hour flight to Australia.

I'd like to go back, but that was enough frustration to last a lifetime.

I was going to tell you to head over to Mermaids Casino on Fremont for the Deep Fried Twinkies before you posted those.

Get a couple more drinks first, and THEN go get your Deep Fried Twinkies. They're ridiculous.

Been to rendezvous for ribs in Memphis, don't rate it, was disappointed to be honest. Marlos was more to my liking even bb kings bar/restaurant was better IMO.

Gravelled was really great. Enjoy.

For pulled pork (my favorite as well) Interstate is the place. Original location on US 61 (3rd street) in Memphis. Only a couple miles from the Elvis carnival area.

RD: Memphis ribs are dry with a rub. Renevous is the most famous, but there are lots of good places.

I like ribs, but Gus's Fried Chicken is the shit! Go between lunch and dinner or there will be a line! Cheap and damn good. Don't go there if you like food bland. My wife went to college in Memphis and we visit often. When I pass through town, I always go to Gus's.

And here it is! All 99c of it.

To be honest I thought it was going to be ghastly (and so did Danni, as you can tell in the photo...)

But it was great! Just like a fresh hot crispy doughnut. Recommended!

Definitely the best 99c I spent today.

Hey guys!

I'll be posting stuff too, it's just that my phone goes flat and then the wifi goes blegh (you know).

I just want to thank you guys for all of the support so far, it's awesome that you are all following us on our trip!

To celebrate, here is a massive half and half tea from Lucille's and my mama playing a crane machine:

Check out the Neon Boneyard, and Mob Museum before you leave Vegas.......they are both within walking distance from Freemont.

Did the Mob Museum last October. I'm not a big museum guy, but that was very good and I would recommend it to others.

We went to go to the Boneyard last time but it was closed. Shame it's not out in the hills like it used to be....

Bummed you won't be through Joliet this trip, especially now that the arcade is open, and will have a major move/expansion this summer!

Midwest Gaming Classic is coming up in a few weeks near Milwaukee, but you won't be in the neighborhood, I don't think.

Also, too bad you're not here when Great America (IL) opens at the end of April...

But Dollywood is fantastic! The themeing is immersive, like good theme parks *used* to do, and there is a great selection of rides/coasters. Everything (including the older staff) feels like it really belongs there...not artificial. Also, Dollywood entertainment (shows!) are awesome, and there are many of them. Be sure to ride the Dollywood Express to the top of the mountain, and try not to get any soot in your eye in the process! (Seriously!)

Hmm...I am way overdue for a trip to Dollywood...

That face is hilarious. I've been to a lot of fairs that have deep fried somethings but have never tried them. Too scared.

Hey y'all,

Today, if you were watching it, on the live stream (for the Women's World Championship and the US National Championship, you would have been very entertained.

To those of you who watched my game, that was my last game. It was also the absolute worst.

In the Women's World Champs Echa Schneider kicked me out 4-2 to her. I want to quickly thank Echa, because she's a really good player and she is nice and awesome!

In fact, I just want to thank everyone that was there today. You were all awesome and the tournament was run pretty well.

So that's me done. Maybe we'll go to another tournament later tonight? For now, I'm going to sleep. The round that me and Echa played went for about 3 hours so I'm super worn out.

Hope your journey is safe and you have a great time !
LTG : )

#95 8 years ago

Yah, you should try to make it to the Flipperspiel tourney. Great location and lots of top players will be there. And Gene runs things really well.

#96 8 years ago

Like Lloyd said. If you have a good time and a good trip that's what counts. And getting there is an accomplishment on its own. And that's not being nice it's true. I have made it to my state finals two years in a row. Did not fare well either time but I'm happy to be one of the ones who got there.

Have fun the rest of the trip. Hope you guys keep finding pinball to play.

#97 8 years ago

As she just said, Danni played in the Woman's World Pinball champs today. Seeded #8, she had to play #9 in a best of 7 match. After 4 close games (demo man was split but only 2m points...) it was locked up at 2-2. Next game was Volley EM which saw Danni have 3 house balls and only get 52k which was beaten on the fourth ball. Down 3-2 she had to win Batman DK to bring it back and unfortunately the ball didn't roll her way on this game, and she went down. Hey, that's pinball! She was pretty upbeat about it considering. On to the next comp!!

I think she means the half bag. In the US they call it "settling". It is supposed to mean they settled to the bottom. I think it just means we are so accustomed to getting ripped off we settle for whatever they give us.
