Greetings,

Since these machines are fascinating and expensive, I wanted to make sure I polled the experts to help me make our decision. We've never owned a pin, and I've only played them sporadically in my youth. But my daughter (11 yrs old) claims she took a liking to playing pinball. I want one for the whole family, and one that has staying power. We have a showroom in our hometown and recently put our hands on a few. We've narrowed it down between Ghostbusters Pro, or Stranger Things Premium.

Part of me thinks if we make the jump up to Stranger Things Premium, then maybe I'll just bite the bullet and go up to GB Premium. Also, the showroom has a GB Pro NIB for only $200 more than the floor model. I'm not sure how many plays the floor model has, but he has upgraded the side wall art on the inside.

What are other things I need to consider? I read the newer Sterns have issues with ghosting, dimpling, chipping, etc. I've read the GB code makes it amazing, and the Stranger Things code still needs development.

Quoted from Daditude:

There are lots of things to consider.
If you have played both and everyone enjoyed them, i would recommend whichever has the look/toys/nostalgia you prefer. Deeper rules will keep it as more of a challenge, but that may not actually be appealing for younger kiddos.
Will you be getting more than one at some point? Have you considered that you could buy 2 or 3 for the same price?
Just some things to think about...since you asked.
If it is strictly up to the 2 mentioned, GB premium would be my choice.

Thanks. I hope to continue the collection since I enjoy them as well. I know those options are expensive, but I wanted to make sure we hit a HR on our first AB. it's not necessarily up to those two, we also thought about Star Wars, or Guardians of the Galaxy or Jurassic Park or Deadpool.

As you alluded to, I want the theming to be something down the middle, something we both enjoy. But as ectobar stated, I will probably end up being the one that plays it most...

Quoted from grantopia:

Out of curiosity what is the dealer charging you?

I wanted to address this as well, but I didn’t know if it would be “cool.” I imagine the owner may be a pinsider.

GB Pro Floor Model: $6,250
GB Pro NIB: $6,450
GB Premium Floor Model: $7,900
STh Premium Floor Model: $7,299

But by floor model I mean they get played regularly. This place is not just a shop, but also open to the public on limited days. So by no means HUO.

Think I’m gonna call for another appointment to spend some more hands on time with the games and look for defects I guess.

Any other suggestions? Thanks again guys.

Quoted from ectobar:

Are you getting any kind of extra warranty or support with the purchase? Will they do some type of setup for you? Is there tax on top of those numbers?

The dealer mentioned he would throw in "double" the manufacturer's warranty of 6 months. There wouldn't be much setup other than the $200 delivery fee. I also believe there will be a tax on top of the total sale price.

So the Pinside market is a good starting place if I want to go with a nice HUO? I did see the threads about shady sellers on eBay/Craigslist. I'll continue to look for other helpful threads within this sub forum as well.

Thanks again guys. Went with a “safer” option and decided on a NIB JP Premium. Played a floor model about 20 times today, and it just felt a lot funner than STh.

It gets delivered on Monday. Super pumped!
