Holy cow! That's a lot of missing paint!
Amazing work! Why have you been keeping all of this a secret for so long?
I haven’t ventured into playfield restoration land yet. My next project is going to need a touch up and a clear coat.
All of those rounded pan-head screws are for the topside. The long hex head ones are for the harness loops thingies and the standoffs for them.
I have no idea how many leftover screws I had since I had to replace a bunch of rusty stuff. There's a whole pickle jar of (maybe?) leftovers.
I got the white ones a couple of years ago, but I don't remember paying almost $50 for a set of 4. They are good when you feel like spicing up a pinball night and laughing your ass off. The balls gather dirt really fast and, since they're lighter, they get stuck in weird places that a regular ball wouldn't.
Those stencils are nerve wracking for sure. Was Jeff from pinballpimp willing to help with partial replacements?
I struggled on my first side as well. You’ll be a pro on the rest, no doubt.
Quoted from Waderade812:
Well I just got off the phone with Jeff. New stencils ordered again.
He is telling me that guys who are doing these need to stay away from anything that is not standard basic spray paint. Products that dry in 10 min, 2x coverage, and paint +primer cause nothing but problems.
It does make sense. Now that I hear it myself.
That is terrible. I didn’t really have too many problem with the 2X stuff. The stencil pulled up paint, but that was only once and I was careful to let things dry after that. My biggest issue was the edges of the mask leaving behind sticky residue on the cabinet surface.
Are the white and black paint the same brand? It looks like a chemical reaction or like the surface is drying and shrinking faster than the paint under it.
I always have to force myself to do two or three thin coats versus one quick and thick coat. I only bought the 2X stuff because that is what my local Home Depot carries in the colors and quantities that I wanted.
