    Quoted from Whysnow:

Here is another example of a Person/Company that does not donate to the site

As someone relatively new to the site - how do you tell if someone's donated or not?

    Quoted from ForceFlow:

They have a heart icon next to their post count. Or, a blurb about it in their user profile.

Ah! D'oh, thanks. Good to know these things in case/when I ever browse the ad section..!

    Quoted from robin:

I appreciate you raising awareness about donating to Pinside, Whysnow, thanks. But do keep in mind that donating is *always* optional. At least, up until now it always has been that way. In fact, I think a lot of people/companies don't even know that donating is possible.
We are working on a new section, kind of like a "Pinball Yellow Pages" which we dubbed the "Pinside Pindex".
In this new section, all companies -including the one mentioned above- will be able to get listed and offer their services to the community. We will probably have a free base version and then introduced paid features for these companies to "stand out". Hopefully this will be coming soon, stay tuned!
Until that section is finished we do not really have very specific rules wether the above is allowed in our market place or not. It probably should not be allowed because it clutters up the market place, but without strict rules I don't think were can blame companies for trying to get their name out there.
But thanks again for your help/ideas/feedback, I appreciate it!

    I like that -
IMHO, I don't see a reason to charge for ads, however -
It'd be nice to differenciate between end-users posting games for sale out of their collection or after a major warehouse find, versus a (pinside) user that runs a for-profit company - like this ad - and offers machines for sale or services like this.

The main reasoning behind my though was simple -
I give end users, hobbyists, more leeway when it comes to communication and expectations versus a for-profit company where my expectations would be greater.

    Quoted from jrivelli:

That makes 0 sense. I know a lot of hobbyist that are thrilled to make a buck or more on selling their pins while a couple local retailers that don't have massive markup, offer warranty and are awesome. You shouldn't simply give leeway to a hobbyist unless you know them and instantly hate on the for profit. I can't handle that

    One example -
As a business, I expect speedy replies to email inquiries about specific details about a game. I expect those emails to be professional (no swearing, no 'LOL' or 'OMG') and to the point.
As a hobbyist, I'll give more leeway to speed in replying and tone/professionalism of the email. (Because the hobbyist has a 'real life' job, life, etc.) And I'll tolerate more abbrevations or light-hearted banter.

    Another example -
From a business, I would expect a prompt and accurate shipping quote.
From a hobbyist, I would not expect this.

    Good enough examples for you?
