Quoted from PinB:You can also start your Google search with "site:pinside.com" to specifically search only Pinside.com.
For example:
site:pinside.com "spider-man ve"
This does help, but there's still things that Pinside can do that Google cannot.
Because game titles are linked to posts (tech posts more specifically) there's searches that ARE possible within Pinside, but NOT possible via Google.
String matching does not help the strings inside the text are off from the request and/or mis-typed.
Discounting case issues you would need to guess about many ways the poster entered the information.
Let's assume the Thread is about "Doctor Who"
Posts may have:
dw
doctor who
dr. who
dr who
docter who
drwho
A game search will bring more games into context.
Furthermore, there COULD be things done by era and/or MFR. I've had this suggestion into Robin for over a year. Be able to search for a problem relative to ERA of games. A problem with BR1 for all WPC games is pretty much fair game.
Also, because of the tight context of the website, further filter capabilities may be offered such a soundex, edit distance, "starts-with", "ends-with".... I could go on and on.
Making Pinside's search capabilities stronger needs to be a priority as the vast archive of knowledge continues to be built within the site.
