The Northeast’s Premier Tournament is Back with a Vengeance

(New York, NY) - Never Beef Productions announced today that the New York City Pinball Championships returns in 2022 after a three-year hiatus, bigger, better, and boomier than ever before. Leaving behind stodgy Manhattan for the hip confines of Industry City, Brooklyn, the tournament, to be held August 19-21 at the Five Two A event space, will welcome hundreds of tournament players of all skill levels. The space, which can accommodate up to 500 silverball combatants, features over 10,000 square feet and stunning unobstructed views of the Statue of Liberty and lower Manhattan, hosted by the historic Industry City campus featuring dozens of local food and shopping options catering to all tastes.

NYCPC tournaments will include International Flipper Pinball Association (IFPA)-sanctioned, IFPA-certified Main, Classics, and the Dahlia Rowan Memorial Women’s NYC Championship, as well as a B-Division contest for players ranked outside of the top 500 by the IFPA. Sizeable payouts will be awarded to winners in all divisions.

Registration and special limited time “early flipper” discount ticket sales for NYCPC open on Saturday, May 28, at 12 pm EDT, at Eventbrite. Visit the revamped NYCPC web site at www.nycpinballchamps.com for links, registration, and information about the venue, the neighborhood, and nearby lodging options.

“It’s been a long three years, but the wait hasn’t been in vain; we’ve spent the time working to make NYCPC bigger, better, and more accessible to everyone,” said NBP Co-founder Levi Nayman. “The new venue and Industry City campus redefines what a pinball tournament experience should be; as players compete in world-class tournaments, they’ll be immersed in New York City – it’s culture, its taste, its landmarks, and its excitement! We can’t wait to welcome everyone back from the beefiest of hibernations. Like Lady Liberty herself, we lift the torch of competition to the skies, a fiery beacon welcoming the huddled masses yearning to flip free, and declare once and for all: Pinball is back!”

Am I reading the website right? It is a $100 ticket to get in the doors plus another $100 ticket to register for the tournaments?

    Quoted from Jwf_pinball:

Am I reading the website right? It is a $100 ticket to get in the doors plus another $100 ticket to register for the tournaments?

Correct. And you'll probably be buying additional entries throughout the tournament.

This is in line with pricing of other major tournaments such as INDISC, or a weekend at District 82.

If you just want to attend the show and play free pinball all weekend, you can buy the $100 three day pass, or one of the daily passes. We will have a sizeable free play bank with at least 10 brand new Stern machines. Details forthcoming shortly!

Can someone explain the entries system please?

    Quoted from MadBear:

Can someone explain the entries system please?

Standard pump and dump for all tournaments.

You buy entries, pick the games you want to play. You need X amount of games on your ticket depending on the tournament. Your scores are judged against all others and awarded a point value. You can buy as many entries in you want and try to improve your scores as long as qualifying lasts.

    Tks for your answer.

So an entrie is to play only one game? The entrance to the tournament brings 5 entries, does it mean that I can only play the same or different pinball five times, but only five times? It´s like 5 credits?

    The tournament is the NYCPC-2022

I'm not a born TD So I'm not sure I can be very clear on this but I'll try:

One entry is one game. But you need X amount of games to complete your ticket. And then you can keep playing games on your ticket - or play other ones to try to do better than once on your ticket - as many times as you want to try to increase your scores.

In the main division, you need 7 different games to complete your ticket. So your best scores on 7 different games will make up your ticket. But you can keep trying to improve your scores one by one.

That's why it's called pump and dump...your bad scores are "dumped" automatically if they aren't as good as what you've already put up, and the pump is the money you keep putting into the prize pool by buying more entries to improve your scores!

Loud & clear... Thank you so much.

I think I'm going to try in the classics tournament.

Fewer games needed on your ticket, faster games, more pumping and more dumping.

It’s a good place to start. And if you get a nice ticket together quickly, you may decide to give the main bank a shot!

    #20 1 year ago

I would avoid saying ticket since this is standard pump n dump.

Ticket refers to the old PAPA format or current Indisc format where one entry is playing a bank of games.

Or at least that’s what I think of when I hear ticket.

Cause you can only play 5 or 6 of the games and have the top score on all of them and still make finals.

The time is once again upon us to ask you - the lovely, talented, exceedingly gracious pinball playing public - for your help in making the 2022 New York City Pinball Championship run smoothly and efficiently!

As in years past, we are offering tournament credit in exchange for your help making the tournament a raging success. Interested? Read on!

We are offering several types of shifts this year:
    · Front of House (FOH) - shifts. These are 4-hour shifts, and your primary responsibility will be interacting with the public and your fellow tournament players to assist them, sell them entries or merchandise, and generally keep everything moving. You will be accompanied by our Resource Director, Nancy Chandross, during your shift. If you are a people person, this is the gig for you!
    · Scorekeeping – Scorekeepers will undertake 2.5 hour shifts. This is an on-the-move job, as you’ll be interacting with the frenzied, pumping and dumping masses, recording scores, and bearing witness to the agony and the ecstasy of uplifting booms and crushing beefs!
    · Tournament Setup & Breakdown - These are 4-hour shifts, where you will have the chance to help us prepare for the show, and tear it all down when it’s over. Have a knack for running cable, or setting up chairs? Do you LOVE hanging signs, or just hanging out at the loading dock? These might be the shifts for you!
ALL available shifts can be signed up for by following https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1nikdkpK_eKd9fGkHcFT32KmNtVVznIKILlx6LdIV8BQ/edit, and completing the Google Form. You can sign up for as many shifts as you like, but please use discretion and only sign up for the shifts that you are committed to working.

Besides being rewarding and being recognized as an NYCPC Hero, all shifts will confer $30 in tournament credit, which can be used for entries into any division which you’re allowed to play in.

The space, which can accommodate up to 500 silverball enthusiasts, features over 10,000 square feet and stunning unobstructed views of the Statue of Liberty and lower Manhattan, hosted by the historic Industry City campus featuring dozens of local food and shopping options catering to all tastes.

Games will be for sale as well so flipper afficionados can bring home their own brand new Stern pinball machine.

The action will be streamed live all weekend long by Backhand Pinball; visit their channel at twitch.tv.

Tickets are available now at a discount from the onsite door price. Visit the NYCPC web site at www.nycpinballchamps.com for links, registration, and information about the venue, the neighborhood, and nearby lodging options.

For press inquiries, please contact Levi Nayman at [email protected], or (917) 209-8523.
