    Quoted from Puffdanny:

I'm going to have to quit coming to this show. It cost way too much money not the tickets themselves but the fact that I get to play machines I've never really played before at other shows and something always goes on my wishlist. So I'm off on a three and a half hour drive each way to get me a Bally flip flop I need some more bump save in my life.

I played Flip Flop for the first time too... I thought the flip flopping mech was really cool. So many cool things you never see anymore on those old machines.

    #902 6 years ago

Had a good time, talked to and met a few new dudes. Too bad I was only there for three hours, gonna need more time in the future

Played Flip Flop during the EM tournament...I agree with you, loved it. Besides the flip-flop mech up center I loved how the inlane and outlanes were 'flip-flopped' so to speak, and it was great fun nudging the ball from death back into play. Congratulations on your acquiring one.

What's the story behind the Star Wars Trilogy next to GB that had signatures of Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher on the translite? Previous owner obtained? Just curious.

Yes the previous owner was a star wars nerd
Even has the ultra rare signature of Yado (George Lucas threatened the actor who played Yoda with lawsuits for signing merch as "Yoda")

    10k by xmas!

    #906 6 years ago

Ahhh Yado, The forgotten brother of Yoda. Although he’s a way better actor, better with a light saber, just generally better looking, Yoda gets all the credit for everything. We got Yado’s signature though because we think Yado is the better of the two brothers

    #907 6 years ago

No, Yado is the sister. You can't tell with those creatures unless you lift the tail.

Damn. You got that sweet Flip Flop from Weir? I saw the ad last night and almost bought it this morning. Give me a shout if you decide to sell...that pf is nice.

Thats the one and it plays like it just came out of the box

First time at the show. It was good to see everyone! I didn't play a lot of pinball, but I did see a lot of cool stuff and spent the afternoon in one of the wonders of the world! Thanks VFW!

I didn't see you there. you must have showed up on sunday

    #911 6 years ago

I would love to see a more updated shooter game to play (house of the dead, etc) or maybe 1-2 multicades.
The older shooters just leave alot to desire for me.
So what company pins are the cheapest to keep running?
It may be hard to pin down bit you could tell me in the long run the maintenance level of a Williams compared to a Data East to a Bally or Gottleib, is stern stern or is an older stern more reliable than a newer dmd stern.
I have been told to avoid Gottliebs or should I avoid Gottlieb Premier?

I own 4 Gottliebs 3 premiers and a system 3 and have found them to be great machines, an old premier may need some bulletproofing but what 30 yr old machine doesn't.

AFAIK, this is the first 2018 VFW Showcase shirt that made it to The Last Frontier....

Houdini had some interesting stuff going on...although the whole "Book on Tape" endless unskippable monologue is more than tedious.

JJPOTC I didn't realize, never looked in to it, has no video clips? Just start a mode and then collect the characters involved? I only played 2 balls.

    #915 6 years ago

Had an absolute blast at the VFW show this year! It's the only pinball party I've been to in the US but for me it has it all.... great venue and VFW team keeping things running, machines from all eras of pinball, great people, Genco Lucky 7!, awesome food and more! Like others have said there were no real lines, the balance of people vs. games seemed perfect.

Really enjoyed some hands on time with the latest pins with Iron Maiden and TNA being the stand outs. That was the third Houdini I've played, it had the longest ball times possibly due to the generous ball saves, but more importantly it also had the best setup which seems critical to that game. Was cool to play Alien and see what might have been...

Here's hoping I can make it next year. Cheers!!

p.s. called in Marvin's on the way home, what an amazing place! Very cool to see some vintage UK seaside mechanical amusements

From what I know it can be turned off, and I think if you leave it on you can skip it by hitting flipper buttons, but i know what you mean, guy kind of talks slow also, my ADD kicks in big time, pretty cool game other than that.

He actually was going to sue them, unbelievable. I wonder if he would go after anyone who changed their name to say SkyWalker??

If there's an option it wasn't on this game.

    #920 6 years ago

Great experience at VFW! I spent some good time with the Zaccaria's! Those are such beautiful games, and to see so many in one place!

Playing FireFly was really cool! That game was a lot of fun! Such a shame that Alien won't get made anymore - what an awesome game!

I was amazed at how any game malfunctions were looked after right away, fixed, and put back on the floor! Kudos to all the staff!

There are a dozen options to control the level of verbosity and with the exception of the magic shop, all can be skipped through via holding both flippers for a half second or so. There is a setting to control if speech also cuts out when flipper escaping or if it continues even though the ball is put back into play, so while flipper escape is always enabled that option has to be set to also cut off speech. This is not the most current, but you will get the idea of the level of the control the owner has . . .

Will there be a fall show?

    #923 6 years ago

We were thinking about a 1 day saturday or sunday fall show. but it has not been decided. it hinges on a couple thing... like pinball expo (i'm still not convinced that is actually happening!), and Dayhuff's party (is he doing that, or did he drop the mic?)

    #924 6 years ago

So this will be a new event in addition to black friday event or will this be replacing the black friday event

    Why no pin raffle(s)?
    License issues?
I would certainly buy a ticket or two.

This year was my first time attending the show. I went on Saturday and have to say that I believe this is my favorite show of all for simply playing pinball. All of the games really played well. When a game was down it was repaired quickly. The staff is super nice and friendly and responsive. The food was good (didn't get the beans LOL) and the show wasn't overcrowded.

One key difference between this show and the others I have been to in the past, like Allentown Pinfest, TPF, and York, is how approachable the show is for someone who attends shows alone. Ever since moving away from my home state back in 2013 I have attended shows alone. I always felt awkward going to TPF to play for example because standing in line by yourself and playing alone isn't the best feeling.

At this show though I was able to walk up and play pretty much any game I wanted to play. I think I waited a bit to play BBB or Medieval Madness but the wait was never more than 2 people deep for the super popular games. Playing alone was drastically different because there isn't a line of 5-10 people behind you waiting for you to finish. That took a lot of the awkwardness away for me. I will surely be visiting in the future. Next year for all three days if possible!

Was looking for video of the gameplay of the new Duncan Brown Lost Harry Williams pin Firefly
and did not see anything on youtube.

I only caught brief glimpse of the game in this walk thru video of VFW2018.
Did learn how Clay managed to cram in 400 pins at the VFW now,
as I just learned he enclosed the breezeway between the main building and the old EM annex.
Got to be the most diverse and complete collection of working pins in one complex.
Only thing lacking is maybe a few more 60s Williams EMs,
glad to see the new additions of some 60s Bally EMs since i visited last year.

It would be an interesting story how a person acquires that many games. I've read the VFW story at the web site - I'm referring to something a little more in depth. Just hard to fathom that many games. First trip there this year...beyond impressed with both the staff and pins.

    #936 6 years ago

Acquiring games is easy. Any idiot with space and time/energy can do that. Look at all the youtube posts with people with huge game collections. that's not the problem. Restoring/fixing them is the trick. having a place to set them up and keeping them running, that's the trick.

Ding, ding, ding.... I have six pins and I have a hard time keeping them all up and running 100% of the time. The logistics, not to mention the knowledge and skill, in keeping 400+ games running is mind-boggling to me.

    #938 6 years ago

Heck it's mind boggling to me too! i'm amazed at the stuff that goes wrong. things you wouldn't think could/would be a problem, things you couldn't foresee. it freaks me out sometimes.

I'm looking forward to the fireside chat with J.M. next year. This years was very educational!!! We need more of them!!!

Like mystery moisture in a connector?

I'm thinking that's a inside joke and saw it first hand, given you're from MI and not too far from VFW....member of the group up there?

Not a member but yes an inside joke Clay worked on a game of mine and the connector was "wet" inside, like a thin coat of oil or something.I have no idea what it is or how it got there.

    #944 6 years ago

I couldn’t justify the expense to fly out for a one day event but what a cool opportunity for any local people. Lorisa and I had a fantastic time and we consider this a can’t miss show. We will definitely be back next year.
